In this video, we see ex LMS experimental 'Princess' Class Pacific 'Turbomotive' newly outshopped in BR lined black livery on one of its regular Euston-Lime Street rosters with crimson and cream Mk.1 stock. Also in view is a 'Coronation' Class Pacific 'City of Leicester' on an Anglo-Scottish express with a mixture of BR Mk.1 and LMS rolling stock all in crimson and cream. Hauling a miscellaneous goods is Sir William's opening gambit for the LMS, one of the elusive Stanier 2-6-0 moguls.
I will be uploading an overview of the LMS moguls in the near future.
Thank you for watching.

Might have guessed you would plump for a turbomotive! Lovely presentation thanks Chris.

I'm glad the 'Turbomotive' look didn't catch on ( not that that was the reason ), as it means we lose so much of the detailing, especially the motion, which looks so magnificent on the Coronation here. Thanks as ever, for sharing.

This is true. For me, the visual downside is the absence of cylinders and motion and if it had been a goer I feel sure that a production run would have improved the aesthetic appearance somewhat. Apart from that it was a relatively successful prototype Problems were initial cost and turbine breakages/issues which could have been ironed out. What ultimately killed it was lack of infrastrucure support for a such a radical departure from the Stephensonian concept of reciprocating steam locomotion. Thank you for your contribution. BTW, the model is superb, the level of detail accuracy is fabulous. It's die-cast metal.

Often hard to see die-cast on screen. Makes the model special being of something unique.@@crewelocoman5b161

Great 1950's running session! The turbomotive looks lovely in black. Some positive reviews on the model. I'm waiting for the new Hornby black 5 in Caprotti form!

Hi Lynden, Thank you again for your endorsement and interest. Yes, I can confirm the positive views. Detail, or rather its accuracy is tremendous, but it is lost in the context of running sessions! Die-cast body, which I was unaware of until I got it out of the box. Not entirely convinced by the lights though (very minor quibble). BTW, which Caprotti Black 5 are they producing, the 1951 44687/8 or the earlier batch circa 1947?

@@crewelocoman5b161 44755 is the Caprotti version that Hornby are bringing out with the early crest on the tender. I actually have a Comet kit of 44687 which was the last to be built and the same as 44686. Yes I see what you mean with regards to the front lamps, are they fixed or can you remove them?

@@lyndengrant1657 Interesting, I'll keep an eye out for that. Re the lamps: short answer is I don't know. The one on the back of the tender is removeable. The front lights are way too bright. Back in the day they were never lit anyway except at night. I might try painting over them to create a dim effect which would be more in keeping of the way it was. Some LMS lamps were black as well as white.

Hello again. The maroon LMS version looks great but I went for BR as my layout is in essence that era. I recall enquiring of you a while back re obtaining one yourself...has this or about to materialise?

Sadly I cannot afford such luxuries in my semi-retired state, and still have misgivings about Hornby's quality control, but I am starting a new project with an Ellis Clark product on order (in black LMS livery). Thanks for remembering!

Not a great fan of turbomotive . To me it looks like a deformed Princess , which is what it is . Always a pleasure seeing the layout though . Nice stock on the Black Duchess and I think I see a Tri-ang cattle wagon on the freight . Nice ! Happy New Year !

Many thanks for your input. Always appreciated. I too was conflicted, but I put that to one side being an LMS man. It did manage to run over 300,000 miles which is more than you can say for any other 'experimental' non reciprocating steam locomotive. The Hornby model itself is fantastic. I paid under £200 for this and it is die-cast metal top to bottom (not sure about the tender though). The level and accuracy of detail is awesome. The appearance? It's not that bad, but it is a matter of opinion. For me, it's the lack of cylinders and motion that gives it an odd, disproportionate look. Back to the model, I'm not convinced by the lights and it comes with Hornby's usual nonsense detail parts wich are impossible to fit. (brake gear and front steps). It's all good stuff!
