Simply put, the greatest bassist to ever pick up the instrument pound for pound. Single handed started the solo bass revolution. The true liberator of the electric bass instrument of the 1970’s.

HUGE props to Ray Gomez for that snakebite-tough guitar too! I LOVE this tune because it shows Stanley's melodic side too.

I bought this album back in 1976 and tranfered to eighttrack and casset later.. It was my highway cruising music... One thing I liked was his riffs were like guitars not just bass.. His music was in the genre of JAZZ ROCK FUSION and it opened the door to a whole level of jazz rock r and b.. Return to Forever...( the band) changed the whole music industry.. Because it crossed so many barriors...race age political veiws... It was way ahead of its time.. I still listen to Stanley Clark stuff and it never gets old Modern Man is one of my favorite albums of Mr Clarks... THANK YOU SIR!!!🐺

My favorite bass driven instrumental. Power, melody, technic and groove, what can one ask for more ? For me this is jazz-rock.

One of the greatest bassists to ever walk this planet.. Saw him live at The Return to Forever reunion concert a few years back, he was phenomenal. "Romantic Warrior" is another fabulous piece of Stanley's writing.

I got to see the Stanley Clarke group perform this live when it first came out. Here's the mind blower. Stanley was the opening act for John McLaughlin and "Mahavishnu". It was one of my true musical spiritual epiphanies, and I became musically aware with the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and Mowtown in the early 60's. I also dabbled with bass guitar for a few years in and just after high school in the 70's. Stanley Clarke was one of the truly progressive rock/jazz bass players from this era, around the time of greats like Jaco Pastorius.

its called jazz rock. Stanley is the OG Bassist from my home town Philly. he played with Chick Corea, George Duke and other straight jazz and fusion artist in the 70s 80s and 90s. he also did movie soundtacks like POETIC JUSTICE WITH TUPAC AND JANET JACKSON.HE DID THE MUSIC FOR Boyz in the Hood with Ice Cube too.

I'll never forgive myself when i was looking forward for months going to Holland for one of his concerts, part of a European tour a few years back.. and then forgetting all about it just a day or two prior to it... First visit to your channel. Great choice, this is an awesome piece.

If you haven't heard Victor Wooten on bass yet, he's a next generation player, who actually caught Stanley Clark's attention... Victor IS music. He's beyond incredible.

@@jayrahvisions oh that's so cool!! I'm guessing you've probably met Victor then, too.. I had the pleasure of meeting him at 2 of his concerts, and he was one of the most humble musicians I've ever met. A genuinely nice guy.

He had just come from being in Return to Forever with Chick Corea Lenny White and Al DeMeola . This was his first solo album. Stanley plays a piccolo bass, and has an extra octave length on the neck. No 5 or 6 string nonsense for him. He's strictly a 4 string man. That is how he gets such a high range .
