@@casualwest7130 yeah not really true at all I counted at least 5 goals that were borderline unstoppable because the defensive effort in front was too lackluster. I’m not argueing the likelihood, but in general I feel like saying ”it could have been” is always a moot point as it only takes away from what we actually did witness. And it was a fantastic game already, so I’d rather take it for what it is, that’s all.

@@casualwest7130 It’s a not a moot point as I am assessing the actual game and basing my assumptions on the odd man rushes that were created and team performance. (he still played well tonight) it would have been a lot worse and he wouldn’t taken his team as far as he did if he was letting in goals he should be stopping.

It is funny that you say that because I was thinking the same exact thing. The HBK line that year was fast and lethal, Kessel should of won the Conn that year. The main reason why SJ made that series competitive was solely due to Martin Jones playing at a high level only with Vasey, he is struggling. I know his team has put him in some rough situations but he has let some soft goals in and had has multiple games before this series where Toronto and NYR have had success lighting his lamp. Without superb goaltending that Jones provided for his team, Tampa's season could be over in 5 games or dare I say, a sweep.

@@jakepark7827 I think it’s a little silly to compare Vasey and Jones. Vasey is a two time champ and has proven champion pedigree. Colorado just out played them pure and simple. It happens. We will see what happens game three. Remember NYR went up 2-0 and look what happened to them.

After the game was over, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan interviewed Cale Makar and asked the following question: “Will you celebrate at all tonight?” Cale Makar: “No” This is how locked in the team is right now. There is nothing to celebrate. The job is only half done. They played their most perfect game of the season and they are still not satisfied. They will not stop until they lift that cup above their heads. Everyone contributed. The bottom six came back with vengeance and just completely destroyed the Bolts. Kuemper remained sharp to earn himself a shutout. I was thrilled to see Cogliano come back and make a difference in game 2. The Colorado Avalanche stuck to their game plan and did not blink once. You can’t ask for anything else from this team tonight because they gave you everything against the two-time defending champs. There is honestly nothing else to add because they played a flawless game from start to finish. They put their foot on the gas and literally did not let go. This is the exact type of effort that the Avs must duplicate in the next two games. The reason why I predicted Avs in 5 was because the name of the game for this series is speed. Tampa can’t keep up. In the last 2 games, the Avs have outshot the bolts 68-39. Vasilevskiy can only do so much. In fact, 7 goals were the most he has ever allowed in his career whether it was in the regular or post season. He may have just have met his match. Here is something for you, Bolts fans. Valerie Nichushkin outshot Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point and Ondrej Palat combined in two consecutive games.
@soadfan10162 жыл бұрын
YUP! It ain't over, nothing to celebrate. I absolutely LOVE the Avs players' attitudes all playoffs long. They're determined, they're hungry, and they aren't satisfied until they lift LORD STANLEY'S CUP! It ain't over. Lot's of work to do. It's encouraging, but now it shifts to Tampa. The Avs need to stay hungry, determined, and committed cause it takes 4 wins, not 2!

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Vasi, but the one thing that has never worried me about the Avs is scoring on any goalie. You know they're good for like 3-5 a game, just a matter of shutting down the opponent and getting at least average goaltending. And it's working perfectly so far, hope they continue it

40 years of watching hockey. I've never seen a team dominate a game this thoroughly since THOSE Edmonton Oilers. That said, I'm surprised Jon Cooper made almost not adjustments from Game 1. He still committed to forechecking 2 and 3 men deep, despite every single time it got broke, it was an odd-man rush straight to his goal. He kept the same line combinations, even though his checking line simply cannot keep up with McKinnon's line. And his top line is getting outworked and penned in by the Av's checking line. Everything the Lightning did wrong in Game 1 was on display, worse, in Game 2. That's taking nothing away from the Avs, every mistake the Lightning made was forced, and then ruthlessly exploited. While the Avs gave virtually nothing away in return.

@@haynryan87 I think colorado has just invented what is good hockey adaptability. With defenseman that are also potent scoring threats colorado can have guys swap positions and not even worry about it. Wingers can get tied up on the boards and dish it out to a defender on breakouts making it a defenseman on offense. Similarly you'll see moments where a man who's crashing the net or first in the corner will peel off to the point meanwhile one of colorado's defensmen will drop down slightly creating an umbrella-type offense which they can break out even on a 5-on-5

Cooper seems to think that Vasy is Superman. "Oh, he doesn't need a rest, he can play for 19 games straight and never run out of gas! Surely this man is a GOD!" Tonight was Cooper's wake up call. Elliott not manning the pipes on Monday is tantamount to Cooper giving up and waving the white flag. And yes, I do hope that prompts ol' Andrei to give Cooper and the Bolts the proverbial middle finger. The man's going to have back issues for the rest of his life given how he's carried this team on it for nearly a decade.
