As a Rangers fan from NJ I was really frustrated when I heard the news. I encounter so many douchebags on the road every day, it's a real problem. I get upset when I hear auto fatalities on the local news, but when it happens to a star in the sport I love it hurts me on a deep level. This could have been so easily prevented, that's the worst part. RIP Gaudreau brothers.

Edmonton had an awful start to last season, and because of this they lost out on a lot of the home ice advantage in multiple matchups. I know that’s not huge but I do think that matters and given it was down to 1 game, it could make a difference. Home ice for game 7 in Edmonton would be unreal. Also I’ll add that it’s fairly common for a runner up to come in next year and win. Florida just did it this year.

As a Devils fan, my heart really goes out to Calgary and Columbus fans for the loss of Gaurdeau. I definitely agree a cup is the last thing on their minds right now. That being said, the loss might motivate them to play better. Sometimes the loss of a great teammate sometimes gives a kick in the ass to play better. Sometimes other players feel like their departed friend and teammate is with them in spirit. I know my late father in law taught me a lot of tips and tricks with handiwork around the house. He died during the pandemic, but there have been plenty of times where I have been stuck, and did not know how to complete the task. I would sit down, maybe eat something, ponder, and just say to myself "talk to me, Steve." And sometimes, I fail, sometimes I don't. But I always feel like my father in law is with me in spirit.

For sure Rangers should be higher than Dallas. I don't feel pressure at all for Stars to win the Cup. Getting to WCF last year was a W...satisfying. If I was more of a believer in Otter, this would be a different story. Having superstars on your roster (NYR, Leafs, Oilers) turns up the heat. Dallas is role playing aging veterans and some talented youth.
@TheSnapback4 ай бұрын
I would honestly debate Rangers being #1. Yes Oilers came the closest out of all of them, but I feel that the Oilers aren't as much at risk with an aging squad that needs a cup as soon as possible. I feel that they will definitely have one within a few years. The Rangers however are nearing the end of their days regarding expiring contracts and age. They have an elite level goaltender and one of the best forward cores in the league. There's no excuse for them not to take the next step, to waste another top tier goalie's career would be catastrophic. That's why I feel that they have the most pressure, they can't let what happened to Lundqvist happen to Igor. Especially with how close they came this year, winning the presidents trophy as well as 2 wins away from the finals, and probably winning the cup.

However, unless you can actually site the article / interview, I'm not trusting that it actually happened.
@williamford95644 ай бұрын
NO ONE would be crazy enough to say that in the open. But IT IS a reality behind closed doors in discussions between agents and players especially in the last 10-20 years as salaries have increased and some states and countries have raised tax rates.
@exeter19854 ай бұрын
@williamford9564 Well said. I do think that it may be a discussion about a player maybe wanting a little bit more money to cover some of what they pay, but I firmly believe that it would not be a deciding factor in choosing a team. A bigger issue for me is that the league needs to find a way to even out the difference between the U.S and Canadian dollar. Teams in Canada make Canadian Dollars but pay out in US Dollars. I think that should be evened out somehow.

As a canes fan, I don't like seeing our cup chances fade away, but I can't deny that It will be difficult. Especially if we have another god awful post season special teams performance. We lost some big pieces and we gained a few pieces, but the puzzle is incomplete. We locked in some nice, long-term deals with our best players and if we don't win a cup this year I hope we can improve our roster for the 2025-26 season. Cup before 2030 (please)

pitts has a lot of pressure with crosby, top 5.

shannon, do you think drai is gone if the oil dont win?

I feel the pressure to make the playoffs starts at 24 and up. The real pressure to win the Cup starts in the top 8. Nashville needs to be in the top 5, they have massive pressure to win now.

Nashville and Dallas should be swapped, but the Rangers should be at 3 so Nashville at 4

Oilers are now starting to pay the price of success: expensive new contracts. It's do it or die, since they will be in cap hell soon.

The only pressure Columbus will face this season is to be sure they continue to work hard and lay down the foundation to one day become the team that Johnny Gaudreau believed they could be. Everything from this point forward should be for him.

Avs should make playoffs but it is hard to see them going further. I don't think there's that much pressure to win again as the unknowns of Val and Landy, plus some weaker depth, means it is a big ask. There's probably more pressure from the fanbase to build a roster around Mack/Cale/Rants before their primes end.

my top five pressure for a cup win, 1. NYR's 2. Edmonton 3 Canes 4. Toronto 5. Dallas. More or less just the reactions from the fan bases even if the team really doesnt have a chance. Out of that group Dallas would be the team I want to see win the most. Canes only because its the same old same old and that window is slamming closed faster and faster each year. Toronto just because the fans are delusional and expect a cup every year. Dallas and Edmonton seem to have a few years to get it done though. Rangeres seem like maybe this year or next and then salary issues destroy the team.

I expected carolina higher, theyve had so many chances, you dont get those forever.

I would have rated the Penguins higher on the list. Realistically this is the last year they have a shot at the Cup.

Doing that to the blues is crazy

I think there’s a bit more pressure on the Islanders than where you have them

All eyes on the gong show up in Edmonton

So adding Laine gets us from 26 to 25th lol. Using this logic , the oilers got 24 elite players lol
@qp20444 ай бұрын
lol that isnt what it means at all. What it means is that Laine doesn't change where they are at in the process. Edmonton is coming to a point of this either works, or they need to start blowing it up

I still disagree. With suzuki staying healthy , caufield starting the season with healthy shoulders , Laine added , Dach getting healthy , Slaf getting better and better , no more Jake Allen bringing us down (6w-12L last year) , Montembeault as the real number 1(16w-15L with a wrecked team in front) ....I don't believe in playoff yet , but still... better than 25th.
