He played for Real Madrid for a year before going to the NBA and he was a beast, shame that he had all these weight issues that translated into injuries and then inconsistent playing time in the NBA, he had really great skills for a big man, and a touch that Shaquille did not possess when he arrived to the NBA

Incredible, isn't it? Shaq played on the same college team as a guy who was better than him, and was the same size. But Shaq said in his autobiography that Roberts "didn't really care about much." Lots of NBA guys say there were dudes they grew up with who were better than them. But you have to have discipline, not just talent.

Stanley Roberts was a tremendous talent, who if not prop 48, would have done tremendous things at LSU. Shaq might have not gone there if Stanley had a tremendous freshman year.

Makes me so upset when someone doesn't reach their full potential. Robert's should have been an all-time great. Damn shame.

i love that people make a highlight reel for some of the names who didn't make it out of their era, but i remember them, because i followed so close at that short time. now i don't really follow, have not in years

3:49 Stanley Roberts blocked the GOAT 😆 In his short prime, Stanley was capable of monster games. Once he caught the ball down low, it was an automatic dunk. He was a thick 7 footer that quickly exploded off the ground. Definitely had all star potential. Unfortunately, he had injuries and poor eating habits.

Another guy in that game that was a potent player (Danny Manning) whose career was marred by injuries.

Think some people don't realize this monster was on a college team with Shaq and Chris Jackson. How the hell did that team ever lose?

I really liked Stan. All the talent in the world, but no desire/commitment to the game 😕

Just watched this game and the commentators said he was a better athlete than Shaq. Figured if I looked him up on Wikipedia it would basically say ‘injuries’, ‘drugs’ or a combination of the two.

One of the biggest wastes of natural talent at the center position in NBA history. Looking back, Roberts was the precursor to the likes of Andrew Bynum and DeMarcus Cousins: upside through the damn roof, physically imposing, yet showing a severe lack of commitment to the game). In Bynum's case, he was very fortunate to not have worn out his welcome before playing his part in helping the Lakers to two NBA titles at least. As for Roberts, he simply suffered from having literally ZERO self-control (as his wildly fluctuating weight issues would attest to that, lol). Damn shame, would've loved to see him and former LSU teammate Shaq lockin' horns in the paint multiple times had he gotten his act together in time:::deep sigh:::

Anne Drew Wrong he was better than Shaq. Had better shooting touch and better post moves. Even Shaq will tell you that! Dude just wasn’t refined as a person and didn’t work at the game because it came too easy to him,
