Stanley finds himself in the company of a mysterious visitor as he attempts to prove himself to the manager…
So here we are everyone, the third installment to Sudrian Stories From Hell: Volume 2. I’m really proud of this one, it’s an idea I’ve wanted to do for a while now and I’m very happy with how it ultimately turned out. Stanley’s a bit of a nothing character in the railway series, same with Smudger in the TV series, so carving out some depth to them isn’t all that difficult to do, and you know I can never turn down an opportunity to go at something from the supernatural angle. I hope you guys enjoy this story, and I’ll see you all back here in a week for the finale to volume 2!
Yellow Engine had some issues with the MFK bot, I won my appeal (still waiting for my comments back though KZbin!) but I can’t be certain how this video or any others will be affected. Basically, don’t be surprised if this video ends up being hit. Anyway, thank you all so much for watching, and thank you all for (at the time of typing this out) nearly 10k subs! Absolutely crazy to think I’m about to hit that milestone, cannot thank you all enough. And, as always, I hope you’re all having a great day! -Rhen

Makes me wonder... in the very early days, people were afraid of steam engines. Some even called them demonic, and campaigned against them. In 'Very Old Engines' as Neil is pulling Skarloey away, we see a woman with her hands to her cheeks, turning away from them in fright. I wonder if this man was someone who, in life, fought against the railway, and is still seeking to stop them from beyond the grave...

@flashstudiosguy 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I could never understand that frame of mentality, I mean, what the Hell (no pun intended) has the invention of steam locomotion got to do with Demons? If God "creates all" and "has great plans for each of us", then surely this "Work of the Devil" as you call it, is actually a creation of God, except he told the bloke who built it to do it for him? That's like saying we shouldn't buy Bibles unless there's proof God owns the Book Shop.

@@flashstudiosguy Obviously, I'm not one to say given how far removed I am from that time period. But my guess is that due to how new they were and that there just wasn't anything like it, not to mention the idea of a mechanical automaton running on fire, imitating a horse would seem strange at first. Remember, this was when horses and carts were used. The only other man made transportation types around then that I can think of are ships and the velocipede (bike) which was also literally just invented around the same time. I'd maybe compare it to how people act towards AI and artists? Not trying to make a point, but the idea of replacing something natural with a machine would seem strange, wouldn't it? Especially if in this universe, the machine started talking back.

Some people are always afraid of anything new or 'different', particularly if it is beyond their ability to understand it. Steam engines were new, noisy and seemingly uncontrollable forces which threatened major change to the long established 'normal order' of society in Britain and that was why they were hated at first. America, a very young country in comparison, sw their potential for nation building, and reacted differently.

Poor Stanley. Everything was out of his control. I can't help but feel sympathy for him. First he is improperly gauged, then a supernatural force hijacks him, and the blame is always placed on him. I personally think that he's right when he tells Duke everyone loves him just for his name which he did nothing to earn, and as we all know, he's right yet again when he predicts that the manager's poor judgment will result in the railway's closure. Stanley's story reminds me a lot of Henry's, always being given the short end of the stick, but unlike Henry, Stanley would not get his happy ending... well, not as far as we know. Although the yellow engine from the previous story didn't appear here, I have a feeling this may tie back to him in some way. With all that aside, congratulations on 10K, Rheneas!

In the TV version it's unkown what happen to him as he was never talk about again and his fate remains a mystery on wheater or not he was sold. @@flashstudiosguythis kinda fits my head canon of Thomas lore which is that humans don't really see engines as sentient beings but just machinery and possibly for some just view their sentience as a hindrance and would rather ignore them when situations call for it. I have an idea for a story: Thomas has been around for well over a hundred years and is happy to be on Sodor with all his friends. However he can't help but wonder what the next hundred years will bring and it worries him. One night he has a nightmare about it. In his dream it is 2123. By this time the Hatt family had died off with the last Hatt Edmond Topham Hatt passing away unmarried and with no kids, nieces, nephews, cousins or siblings to take over the railway. The new manager is not so nice and wants a more modern railway. and most people are not as interested in the historic engines as they were before. One by one, Thomas's friends get scrapped till it's just him alone. Eventually Thomas has an accident and is taken to the scrap yard. Just as he is about to be scrapped , Thomas wakes up screaming and starts to cry. When Edward asks what's wrong, Thomas tells him and the other engines about his nightmare as well as his worries. Edward comforts him saying the future is not for ones to see and shouldn't worry about it, but just to enjoy the present and cherish each day. Eventually Thomas calms down and stops worrying about the future

Quite a good story - again, I like the quality of the graphics, their general accuracy and Stanley's characterisation. They're certainly more adult in these tales. And I feel sorry for Stanley in a way - is his name Stanley because he's a Baldwin, incidentally? The ROD tanks were notoriously rough riding engines due to poor balance and weight distribution in reality - some of the crews on Welsh lines that acquired them after 1918 hated them - but he's very much an awkward and beligerent character. Has he got PTSD from his time in Flanders?

This story, I have to say, is really shocking. From what I could see, Stanley's arrogance and rude behavior was because he was depressed that he had design flaws due to a rushed job. That other engine Smudger was a real jerk but Stanley here was plagued with bad luck nonstop! As for who the hell was the presence that led to this, he's a troublemaker and a little evil too! My first theory is that he's the spirit of a former railway controller who wanted to punish Stanley for his incompetence and teach him a lesson, which is quite a bit heartless, spiteful and cruel, OR.....well, since hearing that bizarre language The Yellow Engine was saying is a lot deeper and darker. If that man had something to do with that Yellow Engine and Bert, then it seems something VERY sinister is going on in Sodor this year. Almost like it's the work of the trickster demons Mephistopheles, Loki, a soucouyant or even IT! Despite all of this, I hope nothing bad happens to Stanley and may Jennings rest in peace.

My theory is that the spectral stalker is someone who was meant to be the REAL Controller of the Mid Sodor, yet the current one conned his way to the top, and got the guy killed in the process. The spirit knew what kind of incompetent imbicile this man was when it came to running a railway. And he felt that the time had come to show the world his TRUE colors. So he hijacked Stanely and brought about so much Chaos to prove that the manager wouldn't care for the engine's side of the story, and that his sheer stupidity would result in the railway being brought to ruin. But then again, I could just be overthinking things.

I kinda feel bad for Stanley now, the manager putting the whole blame on him for something entirely out of his control, what an absolutely despicable basterd, I do wonder who that man was though

The should have written the story about a phantom saboteur who, in life tried prevent a railway from being build the valleys of Sodor back in the 1870s, however his efforts pays him back as he blocks the way of the Railway Foreman's office before being arrested and sendt away. Howeve the day the railway has opened the activist then secrely snuk behind the crowd and blockung the path of an oncoming train, he's eventually killed and buried in the cementery but his spirit is still stares coldly from his grave to where the station stands to this day!..

This story just pisses me off for Stanley ngl. He never meant to cause any of these accidents, he just had the worst luck in the world. You'd think that after awhile they'd wonder why he keeps derailing n stuff, but noooo they just blame him for everything. If I was Stanley, I would've thrown on the throttle and made myself leave the entire railway after all of that. Yes, he's an engine and couldn't make himself stop if he wanted to, but he'd eventually get far enough away from the railway that way. Like holy shit, he was a bit grumpy i guess, but that shouldn't warrant what they did to him...

Ya know, some of these stories involving Stanley kinda piss you off. Nobody pays one bit of attention to the fact he needs to be re-gauged, they just assume he’s supposed to work correctly when they should know his class isn’t gauged properly, then pretend it’s all on purpose when their negligence causes problems. And Duke acts like an uncaring asshole in some of these. Maybe Stanley needs to return from the dead and exact revenge on them all.
