All fine and dandy to have lots of equipment and employees, until the work slows down and the economy takes a dump. All about balance.

I'm sure he's been through many cycles and doesn't spend it all during good times. Save for the dips and don't sell all of your equipment cheap when the economy tanks just to buy it back when it's hot. This dude is smart. As a fellow business man about his age, I learn from him.

Hello Stan, I agree with you on the resale value of your equipment, however you should have added the cost of ownership of that equipment over its lifetime! And by cost of ownership, you add fuel consumption, cost of maintenance, insurance and registration of said equipment. I find that those numbers are important as well, it's the little repeat expenses that will eat from your bottom line. And the rent vs buy on certain equipment. Also the downtime of your equipment for repairs that you could use it to generate income. There's so many variables that need to be taken into consideration, that some of it comes from experience of being in business.

That's awesome for that young man! And awesome for you doing that! I hope he knows a man offering him a good job on the spot doesn't happen often these days!

In a further note that has not been popular in the u s, yet, like overseas. rental equipment is a great way to go to build extra business without the incurring cost in the front. You can bill that rental cost out as a line item and mark it up as profit. You can also write the rental off on your taxes as cost of doing business

Stan I agree guys buy so much to fast because they think great to own the newest best equipment all fine until economy takes a dump. If using a piece of equipment, it pays for itself through work and depreciation, not what it sold for when done with it unless bought for only using for a short period of time

I agree completely. A useful machine or asset is what it can do for you over its work-life plus operating and maintenance costs.

Stan is dead on. Just sold my 20/Svl75-2 for what I bought it for new 2 1/2 years ago. Bought a new Svl97-2. Just rolled the equity in to the new machine.

Great conversation! Great time to start out. Good thing the economy has recovered so well in the last couple years.

Good answers, & I suppose good questions, lol. If I didn't see the longer ROI on a piece of equipment, that I might not use enough, I rented or leased. Thanx !

“It doesn’t cost money… to invest” ROI assumes money put in to get more out Definitely not misconception 😂

Don't be like all these other idiots that go after the low hanging fruit. For every dozen guys there might be one successful one that go after that low-hanging fruit.

Kid needs to loosen up, the way he talks seems so corporate and disingenuous. Sounds like a BS influencer speech pattern/tempo/tone.

Really?!?!? He's a kid being recorded for a KZbin channel! Why judge him when he's a motivated and smart 17yo that's WANTING to learn the business the correct way and be successful? Seriously, what did you do today besides hide behind your keyboard and judge this kid? 🙄
