Great video Stanzfam! People have no idea how hard commercial fishermen/women work until they get to try it first hand. The thing is, they would only take you on a nice weather day and these guys go no matter what. I’ve been commercial lobster fishing a few times off Yarmouth Nova Scotia and it’s really cool, but it was really nice out. Keep up the great content! Thank you!

@@StanzFam Any idea why the grocers dont purchase US wild shrimp much anymore. It used to be a USDA law that they had to label the Country of origin. I have always seen Gulf shrimp at the grocery , but no more. They Fly 90% of the Gulf Fish to Japan and Korea . Which is a violation of Anti Trust Laws. Afterall the few US taxpayers let pay for the Conservation of the Seafood which the Asian Coountries are getting the product.

From someone that used to commercial fish and shrimp ...that is some hard work for sure. But I sure do miss being on the water everyday. Cool video and experience for sure. When pulling those bottom nets with the doors and tickle chain you pick up some interesting critters sometimes. Not positive because i didnt get a good enough look but those fish they were calling baby king makeral are actually a fish called leather jacks ...Ps if you would of saved about 5lbs of those fresh shrimp heads and boiled them down it makes some of the best seafood stock you have ever had to make soups and gumbos..
@StanzFam2 жыл бұрын
We’ll have to save the shrimp heads next time, quite a few people mentioned they’d be good. We catch leather jacks down here in the Keys (we don’t like them, they hurt if they spine you) and the fish in the net were a little different (although they looked similar)

And another thing you use your TriNet if you were pulling a trident for 15 minutes and once you check it you're counting your shrimp to see how many shrimp each net is catching per minute so if you catch 30 shrimp in 15 minutes it means you're catching between 2 to 4 shrimp per minute

Nick you may have been in Charleston at the same time I was at Toadfish and Nicos oyster bar. OCT and NOV are great shrimping month besides the Spring roe shrimp. There is a lot of danger on a shrimp boat. One shrimp boat from Norh Carlina was shrimping near the Savannah River when a tornado came down the river. They took pictures of the tornado and posted on Facebook only to get hit by the tornado and the shrimpboat flipped. They never found the crew bodies. Other shrimpers say they are huge sharks out there. I Know, I had a 16 foot hammer head swim around my 16 house cat. We had been fishing for spanish.
