In this video we walk around the Petty Museum in Randleman NC with stories about the artifacts from legendary crew chief Dale Inman and Richard's daughter Rebecca Petty Moffitt! There is some serious NASCAR history on this property including the property itself. The museum buildings are actually the former Petty Enterprises race shop facilities and the still active Pettys Garage! We have a separate video with Dale about the history of the buildings and another video with Richard himself showing us the house he grew up in next door! Make sure you are subscribed and check out the channel for more videos like this one!

They all are humble . I can’t remember any of them ever being about themselves. It never was I did this or I did that. Always WE! Richard, Dale, Kyle, Lee, and the few times Maurice ever did interviews, it was always the same. The only exception may possibly in the Petty Blue documentary, Maurice took responsibility for that oversized engine in the 80’s. However, that is the only time I recall. Very humble family. And it trickled on down the generations. You can see that. Sharon, Lisa, and Rebecca as well

Richard was there and was gracious enough to say hello and take pictures with us. Do yourself a favor and visit the museum. There's no way to know and it a great thing that we don't have to worry about that anymore. Since I've followed it mid 70s NASCAR seemed to have pretty good safety record as far as the cars went. I'm sure fire was and is the worst fear. The roll cages were bullet proof and the belts and all. They had the 5 pt. harness. Biggest improvement I think is with the seats from early 2000s on and the Hans and safer walls. Driver don't get crushed or have stuff hit them from the outside. It's the driver hitting on the inside. That sudden decrease from 180 90 whatever to basically 0 that is violent. The impact that Earnhart had is that kind. Yet I've seen many drivers walk away from crashes just like his but not him. With the #3 there was no middle. On the track he was your guy or you "hated" him. I was a Petty fan but also a Ford guy Elliot, Martin, Jarrett. Earnhart was just another tough driver. He was good. I thought what he did with Elliot at Charlotte was bs. I couldn't stand him after that. Then he got that black car and thought he had something more to prove just wrecki everyone. T. Labonte at Bristol. But you always need the one villain the guy you love to hate. Loved to see him not win at Daytona for so long. Or Gordon beat the pants off him. It wasn't as fun after he was gone though.

My dad has an old picture of Richard petty at a local race track that used to be at Riverside Park in Agawam Mass. Story goes one of the local modified Drivers Bob Polvalerie Dressed up as "the king" knowing Richard would be there. Richard got such a kick out of it he came up to him. Stole his hat. Then gave him his. That's when my dad took the picture of them dressed the same wearing each others hats. Mike Joy actually started his career announcing at Riverside park. Six flags bought the amusement park and tore out the track to build the superman roller coaster. I was there for the last race, never been back to the park since. Keep up the awesome videos. The history is amazing. When I was a kid I loved Nascar in the late 90's early 2000's.

Porting and polishing a cylinder head or a pair of them makes a difference. Usually a huge difference. I'm sure as you know they're are many other little things you can do cc-ing the chambers, smoothing sharp edges of the flashing in the cc. Then if you can get to a flow bench oh baby you can clean people's clocks and they'll never be able to see what you did. It's the most HP gain for your $ Not buying any extra parts! I've seen guys open the entire area where the guide comes through including shortening the guide. They don't last long but if you're racing, no big deal. I had an instructor at UTI in PHX, AZ. Jerry Sefranek. Big Ford guy. He ran a 351W in a '66 Mustang coupe, FMX A/T. At this time there were no affordable heads for the Windsor. Exhaust flow on Ford SB heads is notoriously shitty. Too damn small. He'd grind the ports out until he hit the water jacket and weld it back up. Crazy! He made his own intake manifold. I think he was using Chevy rods and also the ex. valves too. His son would drive it running consistent low 11s 11.20 in daytime down to 11.15, 16 at night.

Saw Richard on the highway driving next to us in a custom Dodge Hemi pickup Petty Edition. We followed him into town and finally he stopped as he noticed us following him. He was on his way to look at a 72/73 Charger he supposedly drove back in the day. He was meeting some other folks from his garage there. Had some pictures from that day but the best was a profile pic, hat and all in the truck then another of him looking and smiling. He was so down to earth and even asked if we wanted to go along with him. Unfortunately we were heading to Florida and already running late. Like I said to him, I was never a Petty van but I sure did respect what he had done and accomplished. A guyish fellow some times went by Rob and others Robin was a die hard fan that bled Petty Blue Just watching further into video and the 72 Charger there may be the one he was looking at which was back in the late 90s. Richard did it right also as he has a terrific son who I met on several occasions with him buying us dinner once in Daytona as I was running interference for his family while they were eating and while he was on his phone. Victory Junction runs a great setup for kids

I sorta cringe when I hear Dale Inman correct himself when he says "we"- there's no way Petty Enterprises would have been as wildly successful as they were without him. I get his total reverence for Richard and I admire his humble demeanor, but he deserves all the accolades and yes- it was "y'all", Dale. Awesome video, I really enjoyed the Petty's Garage section- that was the only area I didn't get to see when I visited the museum. It's so heartwarming to see the race shop put to good use and not left to decay.

I saw some pictures a drag racer sent me 20 or more years ago when he was trying to buy the crashed 43 Jr Barracuda (there were at least two of those) They had dug up several cars when excavating for the new building (in 99?) and the pic showed the crumpled Barracuda along with a few stock cars, one looked like a big finned late 50's Plymouth or something. At that time Richard didn't want to sell the wreck and would not authorize it being rebuilt and displayed as a Richard Petty car. I guess he changed his mind. It atill bothered him because of the accident but it's an important part of history and sure nice to see it displayed there.

That;s the image he projected at or on the track. It even carried over to the fans. Here's a story that he didn't want people to know about. When Dale Jarrett won his first WC '96 I believe, he and his family had to fly to NYC for the awards ceremony. The only person around there who had a plane big enough to carry his whole family was Dale Earnhart. So he thought he'd give it a shot see about renting his plane. If Dale said 'no' he wasn't out anything. So Earnhart says he can use it. When Jarrett gets back from NYC a few days go by and he gets the bill from Earnhart. It said, "Dale, Congratulations on winning the WC Championship." No Charge.- Dale Earnhart.

I also met Dale Inman at the Petty Museum a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if it was the same day you filmed (a Thursday), because your first Petty Tour Video dropped a couple of days later. There was a video of Dale Inman's podcast interview with Dale Jr. playing on the monitor in the museum when a gentleman walked up to me and my Dad and said that the guy on the screen looked like him...I realized it really was him and he laughed and shared some details about the podcast. He was very humble and down to earth. I was there to pick up a 1967 Plymouth GTX diecast car that I had left for Richard to autograph a while back and when I got back home and opened it up, Mr. Inman had signed it as well! Thank you Mitchell and Logan for all of these great historical videos! Hope you visit the Wood Brothers soon, as that is one place I've been wanting to visit. Bill Elliott's museum down in Dawsonville is another suggestion...

Disabling your kids and your pets. Cure teething gum pain by rubbing the gums with whiskey. Great stories and real cars. You sure bring back a lot of memories for me. I as at Watkins Glen when Richard won. I heard Chrysler engineers talking before the race. They knew they had a lot more power and speed than Ford 's did. So they said just let the Fords run their hearts out , then with 10 laps to go catch up and pass the Fords to win for Chrysler. Also Chrysler knew they did not have the reliability to run flat out all afternoon.

Petty's Garage parts on bad to the bone! Had a '15 Challenger Scat Pak. I installed the strut tower braces, adjustable point front & rear sway bars with beefed up end links and even more parts that I can't even remember. Every part from PG is top notch. Welds are amazing & they aren't painted, they are powder coated to your specifications/color. You definitely get race quality parts when you order from PG.

I just saw the video and absolutely loved it. I met Kyle when he was inducted into the Little League Museum in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. I like the t-shirts without anything on the back because I am a wheelchair user, so you never get to see anything on the back. And yes, I do like long sleeve T-shirts.

What a cool dude, I have enjoyed this series a lot. I was always a fan of Richard, even though at 39 years old I was born at the end of his prime. I like how Dale, even now years later, doesn't want to give up his secrets. He's a smart man, no driver builds that type of legacy without a legendary crew chief by their side.

Dale, you are truly one of the greats in NASCAR. It's plain to see you are as humble as you are great. Seems to be a theme in Petty Land. Met Richard a few times back in the early 80s when I worked for 76. We were just worker bees and didn't rank on any importance scale. But even then Mr. Petty was just as kind and friendly to us all, behind the scenes, like any other good human would be. Thanks for the memories

I bought a 1/24 scale Plymouth Superbird locally in Salisbury NC and brought it to Level Cross for Richard to sign it.. I left it there along with my phone number so they could notify me that it was ready. I got a phone call the following week and I eas asked if I would like for Dale Inman and Maurice to sign it as well. I gave this car to my Dad for Father's Day and it is in a display case and proudly sits on the mantel in my parents home.

When Dale was trying to think of the header makers, the ones I remember when I worked there was...Herb Gebler in the 70's. Herb was from the Richmond, Va. area and would come down to the Petty shop and hand fit our headers. Not sure whatever happened to Herb. The second guy I remember was.....Mark Lineberrier in the 2000's. Mark was a local header maker who worked out of his shop. I would take the stainless steel tubes to his shop behind his house. He had a jig for the headers the Petty engines needed then and he made them there.

I got to go to Petty’s Garage and the Museum in 2010. What a great day that was for me. As our tour of the garage was wrapping up I asked our guide if I could get a picture of me in one of the cars. He said “If you can get in it I’ll take your picture.” I handed him my camera and folded myself in half and climbed into the ‘72. He had told us that it was the first car with STP on it. He said that when they decided to do the museum and garage Richard told them to go out back and get that car to put it in there. He said that they changed out the fuel tank and the fuel lines, cleaned out the carburetor and put new plugs in it and a battery and the car started first time.

I think they all were. It started with Lee. They just had so much more experience than the other teams. More money better parts. A team that was like a family because it was a family. They key pieces stayed together and knew each other well. All the things it takes to win they had it in abundance. Petty was a smart racer. He didn't tear up his equipment, wreck cars. So many races he wouldn't run up in the front pack dicing with his rivals. He'd hang back because they set the car up for track conditions they would get later in the race. The track would be slicker then and his Dodge had torsion bars up front and leafs in the rear. The Fords and Chevys had coils and leafs. They setup to run in the higher groove away from all the oil. That was his trademark the high groove up against the wall later in the race. That's when he'd get to the front. He had the best pit crew along with the Wood Brothers.
