Sorry, not the TV car. The TV car sported a 71 front grill with 4 headlights. Also, the TV car did have a Rally dash with a tach. My guess is the TV car was a 71 Barracuda convertible with a 72 tailpanel and taillights put in to look current year.

Both Brady Bunch and Mannix were both produced during the same time period by Paramount and shared the same studio. Several Mannix episodes were filmed using the Brady Bunch set and the studio had a deal with Chrysler to supply cars. They supplied several custom Cuda convertibles for the Mannix series so it’s likely they did the same for the Brady Bunch.. Here’s some of the Mannix Cuda’s.. Season 4 - 1970 Plymouth Cuda 340 dark green convertible Season 5 - 1971 Plymouth Cuda convertible, actually, three 1971's (all dark green with green interiors and black soft tops), were supplied by Chrysler Corporation, and all had differently sized (318, 340, 440) engines. One was wrecked, but later repaired. Season 6 - 1973 Plymouth Cuda convertible (actually two of the 1971 cars updated with 1973 grilles, headlamps, front fenders, front/rear bumpers, and tail lights).

From my understanding, the Brady bunch car was on loan from Chrysler and went back to Chrysler. You have a 72 that was modded to be a convertible. The Brady car was a 71 modded to look like a 72. So you're missing the point when you think your 72 was the 71 in the series.

The *"1972"* Barracuda (and Challenger) convertibles featured in TV programmes were cosmetically - updated *1971* models. Why Chrysler did this is anyone's guess. Note that the Barracuda from The Brady Bunch has a *1971* licence plate ( "D" = 1971 ) , the same plate as seen on the car form the year prior , when it was still in its 1971 livery.
@culcune

One theory is they were gauging public reaction and whether or not they would continue with convertibles in 1972. Another is that the Barracuda(s) produced as convertibles were early press models before corporate pulled the plug. So they had an orphan which they could have simply sold via retail channels, or use as PR and possibly go full-circle back to my first theory above. If there had been enough interest, they could have re-started offering convertibles of the Challenger and Barracudas.

Paramount studios had a sweetheart deal with Chrysler for use of their cars on their TV shows .when Chrysler dropped the Challenger and Barracuda convertible after 1971 model year .The studio had a body shop graft 72 model year front and rear ends on the 71 Brady Cuda along with the Mod Squad Challenger and Mannix cuda. All 3 cars were 71 cars modded to look like 72s .the only giveaway was 71 side marker lamps. About 5 years ago the "72" Mod Squad Challenger was on ebay for sale.

I can tell you this. It's not the Brady Barracuda. The convertible used a specific Convertible only A post. It is different from the A Post the hard top used. The Brady car was a 1971 with 1972 updates. All convertibles used the A Post with the chrome surround. You can clearly see that in the car when Greg is backing the car into the driveway. The line you see on the hard top A Post is from the top when put up. Because of vibration and body flexing from driving the car, it will create that line you are seeing. Convertibles have reenforced frames to strengthen the body. This one probably doesn't unless the person who chopped the top did so. Side marker lights were mandated by the government and are on all cars manufactured starting January 1, 1968. Here is another way you can test your theory. Look at the build date of the car. This episode aired on March 10, 1972. My guess is that it was filmed up to two weeks ahead of time. So the likelihood that the car on the Brady Bunch was manufactured between August of 1971 up to sometime in late January. If the car you have was manufactured after January and especially February through July of 1972, then there is further proof that this is not the car.

However, I had a 1968 Ford Fairlane that had the parking light serving as the turn signal and the side marker light in the front; however, it did not have a light in the back on the side it had a reflector as did my dad's Country Squire and his Ford pickup. I would say they were just filled in on this car. Seems like Mike Brady drove a 1967 Dodge Monaco in the pilot and in the first season of the series he drove a 1969 Plymouth Fury convertible. Cool stuff on the convertible, the likelihood is really a matter degrees or probabilities here. PROS: Full blue interior, converted tail panel, standard dash, tell tale of factory sidemarkers all go along way, HOWEVER - the stand outs are the defect in the decklid & the remains of a strap on RF fender bolt. So far I'm guessing roughly 65-80% likelihood it could be the car. CONS: Underside of hood is different factory color, lack of evidence that tail panel swap is as old as the car(the black e coating will eventually show some surface rust or other aging that ISN'T visible on the trunk lip area), lack of any kind of paper trail or production info (when is production date of car related to TV show production timeline? Remember the need to convert car before TV shooting schedule BEFORE episode aired.) Also not seeing any well lit pics of inside trunk or under car(especially RF corner, other mounts, straps, or strange holes/brackets?).

zero percent chance of it being the same car. You are forgetting the fact that the interior is a different design, even if it was the same color. But the main reason was the car in the show was a real convert and you can tell the difference a mile away if you have ever owned either one of them.

2 things n im no expert n dont claim to be. 1st, do a title background check, if it was used in a tv show, it was owned by a movie studio or a company that supplies cars to a movie studio because: 2nd, from what i have read/understood, Plymouth did not make a convertible barracuda that year, also from the graveyard cars show both mark worman and Tony D'Agostino stated the car was a 1 of 1 as it was converted to a convertible for the show, someone did the conversion then, and that goes back to my 1st statement of do a title check back to its sale. pay the money and get a Marti report or whatever they call it as u have the VIN i assume, it will tell u more than anyone or anything else can. Thank You
@auteurfiddler8706

If Mark Worman and Tony DA said that they were both wrong. It was a 71 car converted to a 72 front and rear treatment. Probably before any 72's had been built other than pre production ones.

While many have looked at it rightly so from a details perspective, Iwould also look at it from a cost perspective. The Brady Bunch was not a very highly rated show, nor were cars featured prominently in it. The cars were just mainly props and to convey the image that the producers wanted the Brady's to have. Carol always had a wagon and Mike always had a convertible. I believe the convertible was to show Mike as an upper income younger minded free spirited dad. If they wanted to portray a 72 convertible that was obviously because Chrysler either wanted to promote a potential 72 convertible and keep the Brady family driving Chryslers. Therefore, I believe that it would have made more sense for Chrysler to supply this and do so by converting a 71 to look like a 72 vs the producers going through the major expense of commissioning George Barris to chop a top on a 72. I believe if it were up to the producers they would have just procured a convertible from some other manufacturer just like they did in later years with the Chevrolet Caprice convertible. To me, unless there were other shows where this particular car had also been used, it was probably not customized for television. The Brady Bunch was simply not a show where the producers felt the need to spend money on custom automobiles. Probably as close as they ever came was the 56 Chevy that Greg bought.

I dont believe it is. If you go to imcdb and look up the brady bunch, you can see Mike's barracuda listed as a 1971. One of the 2 pictures posted is of Mike standing next to the driver's side and you can see it has a normal chrome frame around the windshield, not the larger frame with body paint like your car has. Also the grille is a 71 with 4 headlights.

Sorry - it's not a real convertible. Check the dash VIN - it would have to be a BH27, yours is likely a BH23. They are very different cars. The rockers, A pillars and crossmember and torque boxes are much beefier to prevent body flex. The Brady Bunch (and Mannix) car was actually a real 1971 convertible with a 1972 tail panel. Also, Droptop does not do older conversions. They converted my 2009 Challenger. If this were my car, I would build a Brady Bunch "tribute" car and keep the 318. Any more torque than that and you will twist the unibody. B5 blue exterior and blue interior. I believe that it had a white top (see the episode where Bobby destroys the top with an umbrella). Who cares if it's "real" or not, just enjoy it!

Very interesting. There is a lot of evidence that supports what the car could be. But nothing concrete. I’ve seem Mark from Grave yard Carz talk about the Brady Bunch Convertible. I thought he stated that Chrysler made the convertible for the show. Most likely sent out to Creative Industries or something like that. It would be interesting to run the Vin and see if it was registered in California. If the vin came back it was registered in California and belonged to a production company. You’ve got your proof.

From what I remember all they did was change the the grill assembly and the tail light panel to update it from a 71 to a 72. But they were 71 convertibles originally. Also the cars had flat hoods because they were Barracudas not Cudas. And those cut up quarter panels look terrible there's no way the convertible top cover would sit flat enough on there. You do not have the car
