My reviews are of the ship STOCK, when you purchase the ship on the store or in game. This means no upgrades were applied, nor do I typically discuss upgrades.
This video showcases the Anvil F8C Lightning, the newest heavy fighter to hit the ground running and it has sent SHOCK waves around the SC community.

It’s definitely weird that they just put the ship out and it doesn’t have its gold pass. It makes me feel like the shoved it out of the door to make sure they hit a certain amount of funding by the end of the year. Because it was kind of a random time to put this thing out. I’m not mad about it though, outside of not having the gold pass I really can’t wait for them to give ships their gold passes.

It doesn't need a gold pass. It is a newer ship. It just needs to be finished.

@strategygalactic a gold pass is exactly for that reason, to add the final buttons, physicalization, components and component access and final animations for the pilot. So in a way, it does.

Its not OP, its the best Jack of All Trades Fighter, which is as it should be. It doesnt outperform other vehickes in ANY one category, but it does well across the board. In a 1v1 it loses to at least one fully manned ship in every category. Light fighters and snubs like the Fury straight up dominate it thanks to manueverability, the Superhornets go toe to toe with it in brawls and slaughter it in group combat, and i know i have yet to lose an engagment with a fully manned Scorpius against any of the F8Cs ive fought yet. Add to that the fact that it has no weapons large enough to deal with heavy armor and it will be effectively neutered against some Large ships, many Subcaps, and almost all Capital ships. Powerful, but not Overly so.

I appreciate your comment, I feel like my want to call it OP is because it’s the only ship I’ve seen in fights recently and it’s preforming really really well. But I do see your point and it helps me expand my thought process on the subject of “overpowered” or not.

@@EvenLease44 sweet. Your opinions on ballance will change with experience and time. As systems change, you are exposed to others opinions, you read up on stats, or perform at higher levels you will experience many new points of view. Right now its "i see so i believe", soon it might be "ive seen the stats so i believe", or even "ive heard the developer intent which flavors this opinion here" or "after 30,000 hours behind an Arrow it is easy to see that light fighter meta is real and i cant believe its still around after all this time, where is armor and why are turrets so ineffective?"

The ship was hangar ready several years ago. It's far from being a new ship. They just made it available recently.

While it might be the "meta" for now, it is in no way "over powered" nor is it pay to win. I'm not a big PvPer... yet. I got jumped by an F8 and a Mantis while I was flying my Hurricane that was loaded out with only the 2 laser cannon, not repeaters. And it was just me in it at that point. The F8 had the split Badger/Distortion build like you talk about. I kept them both at bay for several minutes until the F8 finally got enough distortion on me to bring down my shields and MFD's. So I boosted out and Quantumed out. Going by all of those whine about the F8 being a super ship, that fight should have lasted 30 seconds once they engaged. And I damn sure shouldn't have been able to end it whenever I wanted to like I did. The F8 _is_ a great fighter. But really only in the hands of someone who is already good. At least PvP.

I feel like any ship in the right hands can be unstoppable, this one a little more so than others. A vast amount of people think this ship is quite OP compared to any other heavy fighter. I’m split on the idea but I see this fighter more than any out there now.

​@@EvenLease44 as a heavy fighter main, i cant conceive of a way its OP. It gets outmaneuveres by Gladius, Arrow, and Furies, it gets outbrawled by medium fighters like the SuperHornets especially in group vs group, and i have never lost to a F8C with my fully manned Scorpius, and it doesnt have a single gun big enough to be useful against havilky armored vehicles once armor is introduced, so its effectively stuck to fighting other fighters or Drake ships (which famously have crap armor). It cant reliably outperform any one thing, it is just the best at being a generalist. Maneuverable and fast enough to outpace most Heavies, sturdy enough to outlast smaller weightclasses in brawls, high enough DPS to melt small targets quickly, and decent missiles for pecking at bigger targets. Its powerful, but not OP. Its exactly where it should be.

They've done through a few polish passes on the ship since it's release. I remember Day 1 it had no engine sound, haha. I also believe that the ship is not necessarily OP. Several KZbinrs have shown that in actual combat scenarios. Pro and Casual players, alike. It's definitely a very powerful ship in the right hands (as things are) but not OP. I speculate that several things will change and be rebalanced after MM covers more ships.

04/22/2024...... (3.23) F8C Lightning has just been nerfed....... Damn it. The F7 HORNET MK II with the remote turret and nose gun attachment is an animal, and it's a medium fighter.

Hello all, I'm new and need help, when I get my ship and try and take off, it says i'm blocking a loading bay then it impounds my ship. I'm running out of money because it keeps doing this

It's an anti fighter, but it's biggest weakness is the 2 best pvp ships in the game, gladius and the arrow. F8C can't do anything against a good pilot using a glad or arrow. It's counter measures BARELY works AND the ships has a high IR/EM presence w.e you call it. It was made before the projectiles gets auto aim assist and then implemented in the game after the patch so it didn't get it so you don't have the auto aim repeaters like other ships. I'm not sure how that makes it overpowered.

Being over powered isn’t a necessarily a bad thing, it’s a beast of a ship and should be quite powerful. I think balance is honestly hard to discuss without knowing that master modes is soon going to change it all.

​@@EvenLease44​ "change it all" is an overstatement. You can sim aspects of the new model yourself by using your speed limiter and system power controls. Disengagment will be easier, and pirates with Interdictors will be more effective, but those are the biggest practical changes for now as far as i can tell.

Weapons will no longer have distance limitations, but also the damage will drop off over distance. Flight characteristics are changing a little bit too, like the hornet is completely different under MM then it is in the normal PU. Just depends on how they balance it, all speculation

For example, i base my specukation based on statements of intent made by CIG, personal experience in game, and the experience of specialists on the game (high level pvpers, lore experts, hardware enthusiasts, etc). Many others seem to speculate on only one or two things, like what they heard their favorite PvPer say and personal experience with little to no knowlege of CIG statements, or even worse they take laymen opinions from content creators with minimal high end pvp experience when discussing a pvp specific topic. Im not a fan of people saying "its all speculation." It feels like an attempt to end a conversation by dismissing someones statements as worthless without a discussion as to why. Regardless of intent, thats the effect.

@@ParagonFangXen totally understand. A lot of what will happen to the F8C is indeed speculation, we don’t know if they plan to nurf it into the dirt or not or how MM will really play out with the F8. I don’t like to speculate till we see.

This ship is currently overtuned because all ammo sizes works against all ship armors and hulls equally. I believe this will change in the future once lighter ammo will struggle to penetrate bigger ship hulls. So I expect that once that happens, people will fly the F8C to support light fighter engagements because of the high ammo velocities, the Ares to focus on large ships, and the Vanguards being able to handle both light and heavy ships, but not as well as the more specialized ones for their respective targets.

it has way too much QF, supposed to be a carrier based fighter, not a long range fighter. Also that distortion meta is way overpowered across the board right now.

I seriously hope not. It sits in the right place right now. Its not agile enough to beat the meta, doesnt outbrawl the Hornet for similar reasons, has no weapons large enough to compete with larger armored vehicles once armor is implemented, but dominates the generalist fighter category meaning it brawls better than lights, outpaces (most) other heavies, and out DPSs single seater mids. Its right where it belongs, if you think its OP or needs a nerf (other than top speed maybe) then you dont have the experience necessary in high skill pvp to be making comments on ballance. Im not all that great myself, but can absolutely still win the majority of encounters with F8C users right now in my Fury, at least against similar skill level pilots. I also win about 50% of clasges against one with my Super Hornet Heartseeker, and Ive won EVERY encounter with a fully manned Scorpius against manned F8Cs... three examples just from my experience of ships that seem to prove this tbing is not "OP"
