I'm not a fan of most Origin designed ships but the 400i is one of the exceptions. It will be my daily for most things, especially the arriving in style things (glam is endgame, as always). But there is one thing I'm not the biggest fan of and that is the elevator and the ladder. For a ship this size that wants to be a space yacht I'd really prefer a set of stairs. Like in a kind of retro-style luxury design. If shtf I could run right up into the cockpit and not have to fight with a glitchy elevator or have a debate with a moody ladder.

I bought my 400i when it was first announced and it has been my daily driver since Luminalia 2951. I've always preferred Lightstrikes on my Origin ships for the aesthetics. With the X1-Force, the Lightstrike is also almost flush with the body, so it makes it just as easy to park as the other models, and there's no danger of knocking it off in a collision. Compared to the Rhino, Lightstrikes have a slightly lower DPS but a higher Alpha. Back when I cared about JT, I could dogfight Vanguards in it. In the cargo bay, I used to run it with a Cyclone. The Invictus Blue and Gold is wonderfully extra in an Origin sort of way. Navy blue body with solid gold interior. But when the STV came out, I switched over and never looked back. I love the STV with my 400i, it's a bit better for looting bunkers and leaves room for some cargo boxes. The ROC already existed before the 400i was developed and was too tall to fit in. The Devs tried to extend the landing gear to allow it to fit but that left no give and landing became very difficult so they reverted it. It had nothing to do with "removing functionality". The 400i has always been one of the fastest ships in the 'verse both in space and in atmo. In atmo, there were few ships faster than it, the Herald and a handful of light fighters. Right now, Drake seems to be the base model so the 400i handles like a Corsair and the 600i handles like a Cat... but I'm fairly hopeful that Yogi and his team will un-f@ck the Origin ships as they further tune MM with consideration for more than just making Light Fighters the absolute meta.

I have this ship with the black wing livery. I fly solo so I have removed the rear guns. Pro tip, if you don't like the brightness in the cockpit, you can dim the lights on the hatchway control panel. Makes flying her much more enjoyable. I have Ballistic's and this suits the ship perfectly.

there were collision issues when they raised the landing gear to allow the ROC to fit in the cargo hold of the 400i. that is ultimately why they reverted it back to what it is now. i hope in the future there will be a way to adjust vehicle ride height, which would allow say the ROC or some of the slightly taller small or possible medium vehicles to fit in the bay.

I've had this ship for a while and there's a lot to like about it, but I also think it could use some changes. Origin ships are typically not my style, but I got this as an alternative to my friend's MSR for carting around our small 3-person friend group. After living with it for a bit, I feel like it should have a separate cargo grid off the elevator for supplies (that'd you take on or pick up from exploration gameplay), which would allow use of the entire elevator for a vehicle. Regarding the cargo elevator size, since it fits a Cyclone it's clearly meant to carry the upcoming G12. With the rework on the 600i giving it a much larger elevator, I'm expecting a larger URSA-sized vehicle from Origin in the future but likely that ship will accommodate 2+ G12, perfect for it's crew size. 400i with 3 crew, 2 ride in an G12 or equivalent and 1 ride in a X1 or equivalent makes total sense. Second, I feel having the escape pods so far away from the cockpit and habitation doesn't make sense, it's set up as a defensive exploration ship so I feel that needs to be reworked to put them on the second floor in some way for quicker access by all. That's a major rework I know, but clearing up that space in the cargo bay walls could allow for a few extra SCUs. Ultimately not a deal breaker, it's one of the better examples of interior layout we have right now along with the Corsair. I may not keep it for this role long term, but it's been a nice option for the time being.

I love the 400i it's a great overall ship. Looks like it could be a god mini blockade runner with the missiles and 2 big guns to punch a hole then the 4 x S3 to cover the rear.

The name I have for my 400i (if CIG ever lets me add it), is "Snaggle Tooth". ;-) I was hoping to park "Snaggle Tooth" in my hanger (off of the ship storage lift), to live aboard, but there doesn't seem to be room, and I don't believe you can't have two ships on the storage lift? I'm hoping for AI cards(?), to setup the remote weapons (defense).

I love my 400i. It was the first ship I could tank smaller ships in without fighting back and not worry about it because they couldn't damage me. You missed the bathroom mirror medicine cabinet and they should replace the extra escape pod with a laundry/Dryer unit for your clothes.

im Glad that new reviews are coming from these older ships grate idea man. i was so close to pledging this one in July sadly i was unaware it was a limited time availability thing so did not end up getting it.. the origin 400i has been a stepchild i love more than the other children kind of thing cos i cant stand any other origin ships they are just dumb in design but iv always like the 400i even if i don't think its a good ship... interior is simple and easy to move around nothing in it will kill you when servers are acting up and it feels good to fly . cross my fingers i have disposable income when its available for sale again next time.

It definitely has a luxury or brand name tax on it. I think if the 400i had variants, this version would be the pricier luxury variant like the phoenix is in the constellation series.

Great review. I prowdly own the 400i since release and unfortunately always had bugs, they fix one and another appear. Regarding the speed it was one of the fastest ships in the game on release, it was meant to escape combat, but speed was crushed with master modes arrival. I hope they fix it!

Nice timing. Role fit testing this ship for it's aesthetics Vs Corsair. Try to ignore it's speed stats as of 3.23 mm. It should be luxury go-fast boat/explorer again in time. Using auspicious red dog paint.(Not radiant red enough). Thanks, keep them coming.

I'd say this is my daily driver. When I go from planet to the station I keep some of my fighters/mining ships at, I normally will fly the 400i. It's a nice little ship, easy to fly, and looks nice. The graphical bugs are constant. They fix them, then a patch later there are more.

Gosh I really love the look of this ship, the DPS isn't even that bad when you think about it. The shield capacity is awesome, so is the Hull HP. Damn, I didn't evenknow this ship had cargo space at the back!! Shame the ship has so many graphics issues.. same goes for the 300 series (if you customise the ship) the HUD is non-existent. I've always wanted to buy ship.. Now I want to buy it even more because of you!!!!! Seriously though, awesome job with the tour and information, Even. Really love this video, keep it up. I might have to look at some buying options soon :)

Hey Even, just a quick question - do you have the 400i still? Can you test it in the PTU? I'm curious how the front bike garage has been affected by the cargo grid changes - is that now considered cargo grid? Do things stick better there now (the bikes kinda floated previously. Video idea for you - enquiring minds want to know.

Actually, the video could be looking at several ships with storage oddities, like the back area in the Connie (Taurus I think, with the isolated cargo area) turn that into a crew space with furniture, or the 600i with the wall mounted cargo storage instead of floor mounted. There are a few ships with oddball cargo storage location - I think the Carrack has some. All these areas might be customizable interiors now =P But how useful?!

I melted this along with the X1 and various paints for each, along with other ships/vehicles to CCU to the 600i Touring. I have regretted it ever since. 400i is thus far my favorite ship in the game. Maybe if they ever do that 600 rework my opinion will change, who knows, but I absolutely want this ship again.

Thx for this review, really like your series. :) I really like the way the 400i looks. As how usefull it is, I love the ships with big empty space most, and e.g. the cutlass (as you spoke about drake ships ;) has 4x S4 for the pilot and better inner Space for Vehicles (it fits a ROC) -especially the fast opening side slides are my absolute favourites to get cargo in and out easy (tractor beam also comes in handy for loading from behind)-, but absolutely no luxury :D I don't need luxury at all, though i like the style of some origin ships.

not 4x S4 for the cutlass. Its 4x S3, but with current weapons, thats still more pilot dps than the 400i. But the Problem is not the dps, its that cig equalized the speed with the conni and corsair...hope they change that again.

You keep mentioning VIPs but from what I could tell from the videos CIG made about this ship it isn't meant for passenger gameplay. Chris overruled the hot-tub touring elements it had in concept, and wanted it to be at least a somewhat functional for Origin, so the amenities in there should be for the crew's sake.

I really wish they would give something to the 400i to make it a true competitor to the Corsair and Connie. It was supposed to be the only ship of that size that had the size 3 shield but that is no longer the case.

I think the biggest difference between the two is its luxury and of course brand name. While the constellation has the phoenix it’s not comparable in price. The 400i definitely sits on a luxury or origin tax.

I’m not a fan of the snout; it’s too pointy for my taste. I wish the front end were a bit wider so it would fit better with the 600i and 890j. The design feels rushed to me. I’m not sure if the 400i is supposed to be a downgrade from the 600i, but it doesn’t seem to fit in the lineup. I also think the 890 Jump, which I currently own as my third (and only luxury) ship, has a snout that's too pointy. I hope they redesign it soon.

The 400i is a cool ship, but it is NOT practical when compared to other ships at the same price point. Same speeds & shields, but both the Corsair and Andromeda have 4 size 5 pilot control weapons (the Corsair has an entire 400i worth of guns on top of that!). Both have considerably more cargo space, which is also more usable. You only get the 400i because you want it's style and feel, there are 0 practical reasons to choose it over the other 2 currently.

400i used to be good. Now it sucks really hard. They normalized the flight characteristics of all S4 non-combat ships to be exactly identical. So Corsair got a noticeable flight performance buff ... and the 400i got nerfed HARD. So if she handles like a Corsair, and has the same top speed as a Corsair, you may as well just get the Corsair. The 400i is currently functionally useless for the in game and pledge store prices. 3.23 screwed over Origin as a whole especially hard.

The 400i was given the least fire power of Connie and Corsair, it was have to have better shields but it last that before it was even released so all it had was maneuverable and speed both it lost with master mode. So it over priced Medium class vessel in a large former factor with crappy shields and weapons. It simply a large target. CIG totally took a large dump on the 400i. Heck it even got to worst cargo. It not good at anything.

The 400i and 890 are ugly as spaceships for me because they look like ... boats, not spaceships.The 600i is the only one I like because its rounded shape looks like the spaceships in the Orville serie, or the Ori ships in Stargate serie.
