Some tips and tricks from a fellow mole operator that I didn't hear in the video: 1. Change the quant drive to an XL-1 for faster warps to get back to station faster when the timer is running. 2. Gathering a bunch more quant when you already have quant will improve the average instability percentage of your cargo and thus can add time to your timer. 3. Maybe you went into this in a different video, but the Lancet is a much better solo laser especially for new miners than the Helix. It has less power but the instability and resistance buff is massive. 4. When mining with a crew, the combination of Helix II and Lancet II will crack any rock you see without the need for any modules, active or passive. 5. Getting out of the ship with the elevator can cause issues with the ship losing attachment/stability to the landing surface, which can cause the ship to roll side to side or slide away). Most of the time the pilot will be automatically teleported back into the station when you impound, but if you or your buddy have to get out of the ship, you can jump straight out the front of the side laser turrets since they have no glass in front of them (this is also nice because they won't frost up like the middle one will if mining on Lyria/the halo). 6. The majority of time mining is often spent looking for rocks. If you are mining with a group, have your buddy fly a small fast fighter and both of you scout in your own ships (you in the mole, them in the fighter) to look for ore, this is especially helpful on Lyria. When one of you finds ore, take the mole over and land and they can hop in. 7. Scoop 100% quant pieces first when possible. I do this per rock, I would not go back and forth between different piles of split rocks scooping just 100% ones personally, but some people do. 8. When breaking rocks in a cluster, split all rocks containing decent amounts of quant down to the purple stage before scooping any of it (this is obvious and most miners already know this). Start with the worst rock you want to split and then do the best rock last. Doing this means you will already be aligned to the rock that will have the most 100% pieces and will make #7 easier. 9. If mining in atmo, make sure you have VTOL on at all times. This probably should have been #1. 10. Learn the sights and sounds of exploding rocks, this will help you catch a rock that is about to explode due to desync as when desync happens while mining you usually still get normal sounds it's just that the mining UI hasn't updated yet. 11. There is little value in filter modules as they only slightly reduce inert and if you are mining correctly you will not be picking up that much inert to really make a difference. They scoop slower which may hurt you if you are close to the limit on your quant timer. 12. Be careful on landing with a load of quant because impacts above a certain g force will cause your quant to go prompt critical and blow up your ship. 13. Do not wear heavy armor or backpacks in the mole, it can cause the ship to explode for no reason. 14. Be careful when using Brandt modules, they are extremely useful but they also slow the speed that the rocks crack at once they are in optimal by 25%. 15. The helix has a 20% bonus to crack speed, but it also blows up 20% faster in the overcharge region. 16. The lancet has a massive penalty to charge rate (crack speed) of -30%. Using a Brandt with a lancet makes it split 55% slower. 17. If rocks don't scan fully to show you their contents, you can tell if they are good just by looking at the optimal window and instability level. A 100% rock has an instability of 10.0, any rocks with instabilities over 5 are probably really good rocks to mine, the higher the instability, the more quant in the rock. Good quant rocks will have very narrow optimal windows when scanned with a mining laser. 18. Upgrade the shields to military grade A ones to help save the ship in case of a crash or exploding rock. 19. I set my power priority to 50% thrusters, 50% shields, as power percentage for weapons seems to have no effect on mining lasers. Note that the keymapping for shields is incorrect in the game menu. Shields are F7, Thrusters are F6.

Great addition, learned something’s like my mole that I had close to 1/2 in modules and gear in blow up because of my landing with over 1/2 mill worth of quan. Only one I never hear folks talk about is the Signal strength when it works. After pinging brings up those little boxes and while in scan mode you can use the signal strength to tell how many rocks are in that area.

Every miner is smacking their head at not refining everything……especially the Borase! Good job once again.
@The_Opinion_of_Matt2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say every miner. I've seen quite of few KZbin videos and comments in the global chat where the person says they only mine Quant and discard everything else. I'm like, "Why? You spent the time/money mining it and are literally throwing UEC out the hatch." I can only conclude that they don't want to spend the pittance in refining costs and don't understand or know how much the other materials can be worth.
@bigd43662 жыл бұрын
@@The_Opinion_of_Matt It's also a matter of having to haul low-value minerals to a TDD. If you have to make double the trips just to offload quartz, is it worth your time? I'm somewhat on the fence on the subject. Borase, of course, is always worth keeping.
@Dracounguis2 жыл бұрын
I refine everything. But then I also have a C2 to carry it to market. I have never gotten anywhere close to filling that thing up even with three to five MOLE runs. Now if you're using a smaller ship like a Cutlass or Freelancer then yeah making a separate run (or multiple runs) just to carry that garbage tier ore isn't worth your time.

It's great seeing you get more involved with the mining side of Star Citizen.......it tends to be the more relaxing side of the verse. Also, make sure to carry plenty of oxy pens when you have a fully crewed Mole. If you ever find a rich cluster of quantainium and can't mine it all, kick a teammate out and quantum back to their marker after the refinery trip! ^_^
@scribblescrabble31852 жыл бұрын
that is, if oxypens work. In the current patch I could not make them work a single time. Otherwise a good suggestion.

@@scribblescrabble3185 alternative to crewmate+oxypen is grabbing a box from a basic Delivery mission and leaving it behind a a marker so u can fly back to it. Easy enough on Lyria moon but probably harder to land on in the Halo

Nothing cooler than mining! Who needs all that boring shooting, pew pew, enemy killing? When I get back into the verse I'm going to shoot as many rocks as I can! ;)

when i play with the mole i use an alt character in one of the turrets and then use 2x lancet lasers for more stability..you can then brake any rock without consumables and you do not have to split the profits like you do when you play with someone but you do however need 2 accounts. ones you have broken the big rock then one character can fly the mole and the other brake the smaller rocks and suck them in..easy money. an alternative if you want to play with a friend and still get good auac per minut..have the friend fly a nible fighter and scan for rocks while your away refining and then join the mole to brake the rocks ones you have returned..this will save alot of scanning time.

Ehhh, I prefer the Halo to surface mining. Surface rocks may hit higher percentages, but I can usually find a decent % rock or two in the Halo, and besides not having to worry about pirates, I also don't have to worry about weather or gravity. It's just a much more pleasant (if boring) experience, let's say 'chill'; and I can usually return with 70-100% quant in the hold.

I’m a lyria miner myself, and can’t say I’ve ever had to deal with pirates while mining and the lack of real atmosphere on lyria means no wind to fight while mining

Lancet mining head and 2 torrent lll and a focus lll, you can break any rock in the halo. Also place your rock so the top is just below the rail as you are looking at it from the pilot seat.

You should have done the borase also it pays good you left it out but kept beryl just fyi
@Bouwplan2 жыл бұрын
You also have the bad mining heads for that job. I find the Lancet mining heads to do a job well. I mined a 41.99% Quantanium the other day with a Tier 1 Lanced head, and the mining head on the Mole are tier 2? so you should have a better time with it the next time.

A new item to purchase next year - personal navigation beacons so you can jump back to your treasure rocks.
@Dracounguis2 жыл бұрын
No, what you do is go accept a box delivery mission and use those boxes as your markers. You can't jump to them but at least it gives you a chance to find that juicy rock you couldn't take with you. Or if you get a buddy in a scout ship you just have them sit by the rock and jump right to them. 👍

I can't find out the type of rock from distance in the mole like I can scanning in the prospector. Are you able to see if it's a quant rock from far out in the mole?

At the end there, it made me wince when you were not refining the Borase. 🤦♂️ That's worth 30ish while the quartz and beryl is worth 2-4.

great video! I would love to see your setup for the mining modules and any mods. I thought about doing this as I do a great deal of mining in my prospector, but I'd like to know what the three different setups you have going are?
