Nice! I love the new scanning mechanics. Whats also worth mentioning is that you can also scan ships like this, it will show what kind of modules and cargo they're carrying, lots of small ships clumped together can also act as a big ship signature. So you can really fool your enemies like this. You can also hide in the signatures of bigger ships.

@DTEA Patch notes state that the rock compound % is a known bug in scan mode but are correct in mining mode. :]

Chatter in game is that the material percentages are off by two decimal places, e.g., 5810.02% is basically 58.1%. Great vid, thank you.

I don't see how 8231.90% translates into 48.21% . CIG recognized the issue, should be fixed next patch.

@@Enceos That's because the initial scan shows you the percentage of the ore that exists but it doesn't account for inert materials. So when you scanned it 82% of the available ore was that specific one. So when you got closer 48% of the rock was that ore, which probably means there was 8-12% of other ore types and the rest was inert materials.

It is actually correct as is (other than the decimal points)… The issue is that it doesn’t count the inert materials. So in the above video, 8531.90% is saying that Quantanium is 85.319% of all the mineable material (48.21 / 56.50 = 85.32%)

Great vid. I've been trying to mine, but cant scan 60-70% of the rocks i find. The scanner just wont initiate, and then i cant mine it.........

Can you tell a difference scanning with scanner ships? Terrapin, so on.... Do you notice a big difference scanning with her vs a normal ship, non-scanning oriented ship? Trying to decide if the terrapin is actually finding a role now... Thanks for the video

Very helpful. Just been playing for a few days. Had no idea how the scanner worked. Thanks for the detailed information. Just a question. I have a Mustang which says I have 5 missiles. No matter how many buttons I press, they never activate or fire. Middle mouse will not lock on. Am I missing something very basic?

First you gotta lock on to an target with T. Let the missiles lock, you can dumb fire, but the more time you spend locking it, the higher the chance is that the missile will hit. When its locked, just click left mouse button. I think you can fire multiple by scrolling aswell.

It would be helpful in later scanning videos to say which mouse button you are pressing to perform the different functions such as increasing/decreasing the scanning angle, and the active scan for the specifics such as the mouse wheel, and the left mouse button.

Doesnt work that way the Tab key just sends out a scan pulse thats all, it does not turn on and off scan mode also mouse buttons do nothing but fire weapons and this is all by default settings. Maybe you have some custom settings going.

As you approach the signal you can use more pings to pinpoint exact location. For prospector 30-35% 5k quantanium rocks are perfect as you can get a full 100% load from it. Higher numbers are good too, but it won't fit into prospector. And rocks under 25% often do not break into 100% chunks so you'll have to scoop other materials and waste cargo space.

It looks like the really large % numbers actually equate. In the case of the 8531.9% quant, if you do the math assuming that means 85.319%, it is calculating how much of the useable minerals is quantanium. Later when we see the breakdown, you can subtract the intert materials %, leaves 56.51% of the rock with useful minerals. 85.319% of what's left is 48.21% which matches the final scan. So simply take it as 85% of the useful minerals is quantanium. It would appear the only "bug" in this is two decimal places.

Great Video D2EA! I wanted to provide some data for you. The percentages decimal is in the wrong column so divide those numbers by 100. Those are the percentages of the NON-INERT materials that would be harvested. For example: a rock with the percentages of 6812 corundum, 1072 bexalite, and 2116 quartz would result in 68.12% of the harvested materials being corundum, 10.72% bex, and 21.16% quartz. We cannot see the ratio of inert to these minerals/metals until we get a mining laser on the rock. This put the mole as a big disadvantage for solo use as you have to seat hop to see the ratios to inert. As a ROUGH GUIDE I look at the numbers in upper right side of reticule if I see an instability of near 6 or even higher I fly over and hit it with a mining laser as it will likely have decent amounts of borase, bex, or quant.

The passive is collated with the amount contained in the rock, but the active scan hides the inert in the results of the scan. So you can only determine what the inert content is once you do a mining laser scan and work backwards which sorta makes no sense at all. Seems like a massive error on the part of CIG to me, but it could be done on purpose for some development reason I suppose.

@@DowntoEarthAstronomy 2 years is a reasonable estimate for the release of Squadron 42 which is the 1st of 3 chapters in the solo campaign. For the complete Star Citizen game itself, knowing all the things they want to add you should better target something like 8-10 years remaining. This is a really huge project still in early stage of development.

I think that Star Citizen is becoming way to complicated, with far to many mouse keys/keyboard keys/HOTAS keys to remember. I blame this mission creep. In another 3 years we're going to need a separate computer just to remember every button/keystroke/mouse button we need to make just to play it..
