Those are not windows on the tevarin ships (talon, talon shrike, and the Prowler) those are view screens. The reason for this is because the Tevarin originally evolved to be defensive as (unlike humans) they started out at the bottom of the food chain. They use the screens instead of glass for extra protection. Along with this, the Tevarin invented some of the most powerful shield technologies, where they were the first race to invent air shields. The reason why we have them now is because of the Human (UPE/UEE) victories in both Tevarin wars.

Ok some notes about my favorite ship in the game : there are actually 2 versions of the talon: the "classic" talon which is a stealthy light fighter equipped with 4 S3 missiles and 2 S4 Lightstrike, and the other one (the Talon shrike) is a stealthy light bomber with as you seen 24 S3 missiles and 2 S1 lightstrike. Now despite being cool looking and INCREDIBLY maneuverable, the talon (and especially the shrike variant is not a very good ship at the moment; as you noticed the missiles are very weak in the current version of the game and the talon itself is extremely fragile. Talking about being fragile the Talon comes with some structural disadvantages : 1. The major part of it's maneuvering thrusters are located on the wings meaning that is one wing is damaged or destroyed (which is happening pretty often btw) the ship starts to spin and is now rendered useless. 2. The components are located very close form the exterior layer of the hull meaning that every splash damages may shutdown or destroy your vital components such as the powerplant or the shields. 3. it is a wide ship so be careful is tight spaces that may damages the win, so i recommends flying with the wings folded (also helps reducing the crossction of the ship when seen from above) by pressing the VTOL key (usually K) Ok i think tat's it for the most importants things to know about the talon hope this can help anyone considering to buy this ship, BE WARNED ! (but it looks super cool so i fly it anyways) Do not hesitate to ask any question you may have and sorry for all the potential English mistakes i am not fluent! the talon shrike is the missile variant of the normal talon, it trades the 2 s4 hardpoints and 2 s3/(4?) missile racks for 2 s2 hardpoints and 2 s6(?) missile racks

You can actually trigger the Viewscreen from inside the cockpit via a button on the console. There's no hotkey, only this button somewhere near your right hand. Personally I like the base Talon more than the Shrike, due to the size of the main weapons (regular Talon has S4 Hardpoints, which in the vanilla loadout are gimballed and installed with S3 Lasercannons) and while the regular Talon has a lot fewer missiles (4 S2 I believe) you will still likely need the main guns because of how bad the missile track reckord is. The Eject was aimed to be used as a breaching tool. You would essentially be launching yourself at a vessel with interior, breach the hull, kill as many crew members as possible, and either die a heroic melee death, or cripple the enemy ship, possibly even taking it over and using it to fight on or get back to your fleet. Tevarin were very much "proud warrior race" like that.

It's a light fighter but it's not intended for dog fighting. It's got stealth capability but not really implemented into the game yet. The other striking waves for hit and run attacks only being visible at the last minute, or in a big dog fight darting around disappearing and reappearing taking advantage of ships that are busy with each other.

You should try the base Talon. You'll have much better luck dogfighting. It was the meta ship for a good while but they made changes and it got nerfed. But still a fun ship. And I say again, try Lead Pips instead of Lag pips. IMO Lead is better because visually you are aiming your ship/guns at the actual pip instead of trying to get your pip to line up with the ship you are fighting, which often times is barely in view. For me at least (and almost everyone I know) it feels much more natural and I tend to land my shots MUCH more often.

I think the recommended specs for 1080p 60fps are like an 9700k and a 2070 super. The game currently demands a lot of hardware power. Don't get it until you're sure it's optimized enough for your specs.

Ah no. Oli is over enthusiastic, the Talon Strike is a a missile ship, in the current version of the game missiles have been nerfed and the Talon Strike has puny guns. There’s a reason why Oli hasn’t seen it in game - no one flies one, it’s a fragile light fighter that loses wings easily. The regular Talon has better guns, but it needs a good pilot with dual flightsticks to really work.

@@jesselee8963 Lol, if you do get into Star Citizen, all you really need to spend is $45 for a starter package. Yes you get a basic ship, but its enough to start, and 99% of the currently flyable ships can be grinded for in-game. My recommendation are the Avenger Titan and the Anvil C8X Pisces Expedition, both great little runabouts - the Titan has a bit more pew pew. That said, buying 'jpeg spaceships' is part of the backer process, you don't have to, but with eye candy like the Scorpius...

Just for the record, the Prowler drop ship was the first Star Citizen ship to use both the dynamic HUD displays that move with you, and the one way armor plating front screen. Screens plural actually but I digress.

I definitely prefer the standard Talon with two size 4s as oppose to the Shrike missile variant. That said, alien ships have different, unique qt animations. The Esperia Tevarin recreations, Xi’an, & Banu. I don’t remember if the Vanduul ships have theirs yet. The new remake versions probably have them, but sadly they probably won’t hit the PU until after SQ42 drops. I also don’t agree with holding some content in SQ42 jail personally. For me at least, the only spoilers are in the story. Ships & even the Vanduul themselves aren’t spoilers for me. Not to mention we’ve seen so much through various video & other content from CIG, & NPCs in game. But that’s my take at least.

BTW the Shrike is a sniper Ship. Its main defensive ability is to go into suppressed flight. And snipe ships from max distance. They cant see you, but you can see them and snipe them with missles, its pretty cool.

The hate used to be so much worse, but SC is being seen in a better light now that it's more stable and people are getting an idea of what type of game this will be. There is two green circles in missile lock. Make sure you let the smaller one complete so it’s harder for you to miss. Also you have noise to radar jam. You can normally get in range block their radar missile dump and leave

Pro tip: map keys to max. capacitor to shield and max. capacitor to weapons and reset capacitor priority and use these during combat for attack and defense tactics.

As some others are saying, I'll chime in as well. You're in the Shrike varient which throws missiles and is left with only 2 S1's by default. The Standard Talon has 2 gimbaled S3's which can be changed for fixed S4's. Both ships are fragile atm and easily loose wings, since the specialized Tevarin sheild tech isn't really a thing yet. Both ships are pretty nimble and fly well in Atmo, you were flying with the wings closed the whole time... hit the 'Vtol' key to expand them. When you fly the standard Talon, especially with S4's equiped, you'll see another major issue atm is power. You are constantly waiting on capasitors or sheilds or Boost to regen.. I love the Talon and it was my main fighter for quite a while. But atm just too many things wrong with it. You should also try the Xi'an Khartu'al, It has a huge profile when flying but since its main thrusters are gimballed its menuverability is INSANE and so is the ship audio! Best engine sounds in the game for me

The cockpit design is actually far more realistic. Windows are weak points, displays fed by cameras provide more protection. The mech sim Steel Batallion, the final generation (highest end) mechs in the game used the same setup (technically they all did, but instead of a standard monitor, the final gen had a surround display, with similar fractal effect when the systems power up). I apparently have a loaner of this due to the drunk Khartu-Al issue, but hadn't tried it yet. After seeing that cockpit, i might just have to see if I can convert my mustang or another small ship into it...

Not sure if it's still a problem, but a few patches ago the Talon Shrike used to shoot itself down if you fired the missiles while going faster than SCM speed. I have the regular Talon and it's a beautiful ship, but neither one is all that useful in their current form. The damage output from the two size 4s is less than an Arrow both with optimal fixed repeater loadouts. They nerfed the boost a while back since it used to have too much, now not enough. It also has a pretty big profile making it easier to hit than other small ships and will go out of control if you get your wing shot off. As for the Shrike, the missile boats aren't that useful at this point. All that likely will change down the road but for now I would consider it an in game buy to play around with if you are bored with your main ships.

Do yourself a favor and always go into combat with the wings swept backwards. It will really save your butt if you lose a wing. For some reason as long as they're in the swept backwards position when it happens you'll retain control of your ship. If they are not swept back you will completely lose control of your ship and every time you accelerate it will spin you out of control.

one thing i would like to see from peripheral designers are ship control replicas of various alien ships in star citizen. while the kartu-al is pretty simple to put together DIY the talon controls are fairly unique i would love to own an IRL version.

The Arrester III missiles are cross section missiles; so is that why every time Olli unlocked from target, the missiles no longer tracked the target and therefore missed? I've been using the Thunderbolt III (electromagnetic) missiles and noticing a much more reliable target lock-on, even after switching to my laser cannons but before missile impact. Not seeing the same results here...

The Talon Shrike is nimble and the engines are powerful. But they are not very good fighters. The only viable strategy is to knock out the enemy shields with gins first, then use missiles. But it takes forever to get the enemy shield down

Missiles right now are almost useless except as a minor distraction due to all the variety and amount of decoys etc that ships have. in a light fighter I usually just avoid missiles, but the medium and heavy onward defintiely need the decoys. I'm sure they'll get things ironed out eventually.

As a new player, I can avoid comm array missiles in an aurora, but in a mustang B, if I stray into range before shooting a skimmer, it's one shot one kill, barring countermeasures. Am I doing something wrong, or is the mustang just extra vulnerable?

As usual with the standard alien tech weapons (like the Banu tachyon cannons), they are currently stupidly nerfed so as to be an unusable option in terms of staying competitive with the boring laser repeaters we all tend towards fitting on everything right now. Before the game launches, I am sure CIG will finally and properly rebalance all of these such that there’s a lot more diversity of these weapons, but for now when you buy any alien tech, it’s worth factoring in the weapons are the first thing to swap out.

Shrike is my favourite single seater and I am really hoping for a Tavaran version of an MSR. After owning one and using it for a year I found out there are compartments including one for personal weapons. The rest are external component compartments.

The missiles always work too well or not at all depending on the patch. If he did this video a few weeks ago he would have blown off his own wings with the first salvo. They fixed missiles impacting your own ship very recently. Now it's a matter of how effective missiles and flares are against each other as they get balanced. Most people recommend the base Talon with the size 4 weapons, much easier for PVE.
