It would be cool to have tail numbers too. Tail number for radio calls and normal identification (painted on the side of the ship, can be changed by the owner) and a serial number (unique from the manufacturer, can not be changed). Imagine having a resale market for ships. 1 unique ship could have more than one owner over time and would have a history.

They'll definitely need to make some sort of parachute system for in-atmosphere operations for dropships to reach their full potential, but that's probably not high on their priority list right now.

the horizontal / vertical conversion (if you're still curious, you may have read more about it by this point) is to create better maneuverability when pulling up, or down on the stick. When we put things into view of the cockpit, like an enemy ship to fire on it, 90% of the time it's done by rotating your ship, and pulling back on the stick/mouse, because that's where you get the more responsive movement. By having the thrusters that create this movement so far below, AND above the cockpit, it creates a mechanical advantage for the thrusters to re-position itself even quicker, and more responsively that most all other craft. (Imagine trying to twist a tight nut/bolt with your hands, VS with a wrench with a long handle.) The exact handling probably isn't totally in the game yet, but the expectation is a ship that will almost always be able to keep something in its view, no matter how much the other ship is attempting to maneuver around you.

in one of the around the verse videos, they talked about how the horizontal and vertical modes affect the ship. If you have the ship in horizontal mode, then you won't be able to move around as well. Once you go in vertical, if i remember correctly, you will be able to go in scm and crus. Also if the ship is in vertical mode, you can't get out of your seat.

By the way, as to the vertical orientation, generally the sides of a ship as it's flying across your path are the hardest shots to land, so there is some combat sense to making your side profiles the biggest. Your front and rear profiles tend to be the ones you want to be as small as possible, but top and bottom is still easier to hit than left and right. So given a choice, large side profiles is preferable to any other in combat situations.

A note on the cockpit door/s. When the boat takes of, the door behind the seats close and a ramp comes up sealing off the rest of the ship from the cockpit. It does not appear to operate at any other time. NB: Info retrieved from the whitebox.

Did you notice the circular mechanisms on the back of the chairs? They are probably going to make it so that if you rotate your ship, the chairs will move with it, keeping it in the upright position

Yes the different horz/ vert modes serve a puropse. They said that you'll go vertical for most of your flight as you're more manoeuvrable and faster, and horizontal for precision or to access the rear section

I like it. I got one of these primarily so I had a multi-person ship, even if it's only a tiny one. But yeah, seeing it like this it's nice. I'm surprised at the lack of beds though. Admittedly it has been 2 years now, so maybe it's been revised, and the SEN variant has beds, but they're in the area that in this is part of the cargo space. I guess this is also the only ship I've got that can haul a decent amount of cargo right now... The only thing that comes close being the 315p... But looking at the current version the cargo bays are quite... Small.

I hope they allow it so you can fly with the wings horizontally. The wing span and the shape of it would make it awesome for atmospheric flight, compared to the others ships with virtually no wing where it lacks maneuverability in space it could make up for it in an atmosphere

Love this design of ship and it is designed with something called gyroscopic Gyroscopic Precession in mind which should theoretically make it far harder to hit and much more maneuverable.

the Reliant is supposed to have 50% more cargo capacity than the Aurora CL, it has to get bigger for that to happen. quite a lot bigger actually, if you look at the size of the big box cargo of the aurora. There also isn't enough room in the back for the variants gear to fit.

Thanks so much for another excellent walk-through. I am in love with this ship, but I have as many questions about it as you've provided answers. I doubt you can answer those questions remaining, but just to note a few things: There appear to be weapon attachment points on both wing tips, so if the high output reactor could power 12 distortion cannons, looks like you can fly a glass cannon with this. 4 fixed mounts and 4 on each turret would be 12 if you can put turrets on both wings. One supposes this would provide for devastating stealth attacks with huge firepower on target from close range. The early layout was just one turret, but we will have to wait and see what we see. I am hoping to see a view screen for the second seat that allows the gunner there to target two turrets forward or backward. We need to see this! Write your congressmen! Threaten to go on a hunger strike! Propose graft! Threaten shamanistic curses, and offer your sister in payment! There is room for the EMP Generator from the Warlock, an enhanced sensor suite, etc. Some have mentioned they'd like to store EVA suits here, but in a ship with no airlock you had best be wearing your armor/spacesuit whenever in space. I agree there should be at least one interior door, and I would like to see a pair of bunks where the access points are, especially if you can't spawn where there is no bunk. Also I would note, no engineer in the world would fail to put a second set of pilot's controls in that second seat. That needs to change. IMHO, both seats need to perform full functions including piloting, sensors, shield management and weapons. Let the crew work out who does what. No one else has said it so I will--the refueling probe is fugly and needs to go. On the variable geometry, there has been very little said so let me just note some simple physics. The game uses real physics so this is important. In order to have decent rotation around any axis, you have to apply force at a specific distance from the axis. That distance is called the "moment arm" and when the moment arm is very small, you not only have less rotation, you will have less control over the rotation. There is almost no moment arm for thrust applied to pitch the ship when it is collapsed in horizontal/"landing" mode. With any flying wing design, there is very little vertical moment arm or distance off the longitudinal axis to place control thrusters. When the wing rotates in space and goes vertical, your main engines are now orthogonal since they don't rotate, and they are still useful for yaw, while the thrusters on the balls out on the ends of the wings now provide enhanced pitch. That is, the main engines provide yaw IF you can fire them independently (and especially IF you can point them in opposite directions such as the "crazy Ivan" Serenity is famous for.) In short, this ship really should handle much better when it is not flattened into a flying wing configuration, because it solves the trouble of poor pitch ability without sacrificing yaw. In landing mode, the ship has a greatly reduced radar cross section (from the front and rear) and so there is a use for this other than landing. This ship in landing mode, wearing Void armor should have a tiny radar cross-section. With the undersized reactor and main engines, this looks like a far better ship to attack from stealth in than the Ghost Hornet, since it has so many important additions. Room for 8-12 cannons--remains to be seen. Maybe the "high output" reactor will be enough for the oversized shields in the Tana and 12 Suckerpunches. That would make for devastating stealth attacks. Room for 10 missiles. Room for enhanced sensors. Room for an EMP Generator. As much visibility as one could want, IF we can get a camera for targeting behind the ship with the turrets. Room for a partner, which is key when you're out for days at a time hunting Vanduul ships. (No really, Vanduul ships only. . .::coughchoakcough::) And it knocks off a perfect 10 for coolness. I give it two thumbs up. Cons are this will probably have poor acceleration and top speed, and as it is not a fighter; you will get chopped to pieces if you try to fight them on their own terms. You can't flight more than a momentary battle in this, and you can't run easily, so even with all it can do, it is still limited like every other ship. Beware lest you get your ass shot off.

I wish they'd add ships with a more nitty gritty feel. Dirty rough and ready to go, no fancy panels hiding the wires tubes and gizmos, I'd like to have a ship with no wall panels on the inside and cargo holds, like you see military cargo aircraft, like the C130, no panels in the main cargo hold simply for the fact to have ease of access for easy repair and to locate the problem quickly without having to take of panels to find the problem, cargo ships dont need to be pretty, you aren't escorting VIP's you're transporting cargo, I feel adding this aspect to some ships would make it such a more realistic feel

this ship is great, i cant wait for the other variants, deciding between the Sen and the Tana right now. the Sen is nice because it seems like more of a space camper van, which i like, but the Tana's missile system, damn... my one complaint with the ship is that there is SO much room for a docking port like on the lancer, connie, or aurora, you could have it on the roof, or the floor in the hallway, just really surprised its not there. as for the horizontal vertical thing, SHUT UP ITS COOL!

Its a hard balance. The ship looks cool which makes the sale (pledges from concept) however you just know that once the game is released players be like : "This ship has so little cargo capacity cause half of the space is wasted for walkways and ramps." (efficiency, META, becomes all important)

Mainly for high speed space flight then it has to go vertical.other then that on lower speed you can choose one or the other.Going planet side it handles better in horizontal mode due to airflow that the wing catches.saving fuel and smoother flight when flying planetary side.

Started think and bit and I don't get the hanger deal. The internal ship hanger makes sense. But a ship outside.... You go in this deal, it depressurizes then you walk to your ship in space? Guess his suit has mag boots. Either that or the stations internal artificial gravity works outside the station as well. But if that was the case, I don't see you being able to engage EVA and float a foot above the deck. Not to mention other players keep blowing ships up that are left above deck. Think it would make more sense to have a dock you latch on to like nasa does,(if the stations is too small for internal docking) or a landing pad that retracts into the station then pressurize, or.... You are lowered trough a force field or sorts that keeps the hangar pressurized. Just the idea of going to your ship that is sitting on a deck in space. Then you open a door to you ship, it violently depressurizes and shoots all kinds of shit into space. I thought about that when I saw another player enter a guys ship. I was like, "If he opened that door, wouldn't it have just sucked the pilot out?". Dunno, just a thought.

Why would any small hauler want to waist money and space on a ship that has the ability to pivot around its self? Its money and space better used for cargo. After all there is no "UP" in space and its suppose to be the light commercial truck of space. Also i am still of the opinion that by the time our tech lets us fly through space, some sort of "VR" viewing system would be used by all pilots. or if the glass is as strong as the rest of the ship, why not make almost all of it see through?
