What’s your take on Alpha 4.0 so far? Do you think server meshing and CIG’s renewed focus on stability will finally make Star Citizen the game we’ve been waiting for? Or are there still too many hurdles to overcome? Let me know your thoughts below-I’d love to hear what you’re most excited (or concerned) about as we head into 2025!

Yes and yes, as for the hurdles, stability in feature development is like tightening a screw all the way in when you first screw it in place, it'll make features come slower but the game right now is amazing if it just works consistently

The fact that CIG has already begun pushing out a patch this early into the year indicates they are indeed taking a different approach this year. Never have they ever had a patch in the pipeline this early in the year For those who want less talk and more action, this is CIG actually taking action. Over 100 potential bug fixes within the first 10 days of the year.

@Stormyy6310 yea, CIG is taking some serious heat and honestly, they probably need to. I love the game, but management needs to make a major turn around if it wants a chance at success. People can only go for so long before they wear out. Every where I look I see massive frustration with the way they are running things. I hope this year is the year they turn this around and get a product people can be proud of.
@Stormyy6310
@Stormyy6310 27 күн бұрын
@ agreed, I hope they realize that a change needs to be instituted, they might not react to the criticism at least certainly not publically but one thing is certain : they will react to the lowering funding they had this year compared to last year, that much is certain
@hirofortis
@hirofortis 27 күн бұрын
@Stormyy6310 they talk about how they made the funding and we still don't see the funding for last year, but they had to have double the sales of the previous year to make the goals. No matter how you look at it, if it took you twice as many sales to meet the same amount as the previous year, you have an issue.

One thing that is lacking currently that I feel would be a big step toward making the verse feel more complete is the system spinning up missions as a result of player action. Example: A player ship is wrecked and rather than recover it they end up filing a claim. The wreck later becomes a mission for salvage, or maybe even for the blackbox inside. Another player takes that mission, salvages the remains and recovers the blackbox. Could even go so far that turning in the blackbox ends up flagging the enemy player who shot them down depending on the factions involved. Just spitballing but you get my point. This would go a long way toward feeling that our actions have an impact on the verse around us.
@austin962
@austin962 27 күн бұрын
I agree, they need to start leveraging instancing for player missions more. It's nice for hangars, although that has created it's own bugs.

I think if they haven't realized how much of a red flag the current funding level is despite them making huge promises, significant releases (Polaris + more ships than we usually get) and a 2nd round of capital ship sales at IAE I think they were expecting much more and they were expecting for 2024 to be their best year ever, but reality is that they're falling just short of what they made last year, if they don't realize this is a big problem and if they don't realize that 2025 might very well be the year where funding drops then we're in big trouble

I did not play from 2018 till mid 2024 and I was impressed by how much they have accomplished yet I also saw how they did NOT update and fix things and and have been building bugs on top of bugs. not good... I even stated in the forum that after 4.0 release and after a few weeks of to destress they really needed to step back and take a look at all the things that need to be updated and fixed instead of pushing out more stuff that would cause even more issue's down the line. stress cause's frustration , frustration cause's more stress. pushing things out without fixing other issue's makes more issue's. I hope they take the entire year to work on all these in a proper way (slow and steady) vs what they have been doing trying to get 4.0 out...

No chance. I am still devasted by the news of SQ42's delay, and the subsequent lack of devs remaining active on the PU. We simply can't expect even a good year until CR gets his head out of his ass (steps down, ideally) and stops reworking SQ42, let alone enter the damn polish phase!!
@Hav0k
@Hav0k 23 күн бұрын
SQ42 was never delayed beyond what already originally happened several years ago. After 2020 they stopped slapping a release date on it, so it's definitely not be delayed any further than what had happened
@misapheonix
@misapheonix 23 күн бұрын
@@Hav0k lol, a bit pedantic there, but true. But what about them reworking SQ42 instead of finishing it?! And taking most of the devs and resources to do it? Maybe there was a polish phase set but that clearly isnt the stage anymore
@Hav0k
@Hav0k 22 күн бұрын
@ It might be, but details do matter. Even small ones. As far as reworking it, yeah it's a bit frustrating that they reworked a lot of it between 2015-2020 rather than focus on releasing it. They did take most of the devs to do it, but that was something that was never hidden. They always talked about how SQ42 would come first long before SC. Even during the Kickstarter. But obviously for better or worse they expanded the scope of the project. But we're here now and while it's taken over a decade now, I think the game will end up being in a good place because of it that will appeal to a wider audience than they initially were aiming for.
@misapheonix
@misapheonix 11 күн бұрын
@@Hav0kbaaah, sorry about the delay in response! I love your vids so seeing them pop up reminded me of this thread xP You defo are playing a heck of a dangerous game, being the optimist haha. It's not exactly confirmed but very easy to see how few devs are left fixing up the PU, during the height of its advancement no less! It also points to less details and more vast areas of SQ42 that Chris is still mulling around. We actually have dev feedback of this, something like "its not great when we put in months of work, and then Chris deletes it all whenever he decides to input another new idea, which renders large amounts of work redundant". Its clear that feature scope is not limited to the PU, despite Chris claiming has gone past a milestone!

The biggest thing holding back has finally hit, albeit in a sort of Tier 0 state. It needs work, obviously. But if over the next few months they can iron out the bugs in server meshing it could well be a good year. Especially since it's obvious that new dev tools have been worked on to create planets and moons and settlements quicker. Other tech, like new professions may take longer, but I'm currently optimistic for the future, even if realistic on the current. It has problems, but there were always going to be problems. What's that old saying from Headbanger's Ball on MTV, one foot in the gutter, one fist in the gold? It's kinda like that.

People seem to forget that Star Citizen is still in alpha. Most games in alpha aren't even playable, they're stuck in basic whitebox stages. But here we are, experiencing a game with groundbreaking server meshing (a first in gaming history!) and an unmatched variety of game mechanics. It's honestly one of the greatest achievements in software since UNIX. Instead of appreciating CIG's hard work, some just focus on complaining, even while playing what is arguably the most ambitious game ever made. Props to CIG for pushing boundaries! 👏

sadly, the alpha line is worn out. People are weary and the older the people get the more weary they will become. With a decade of promises, people want to see some results. So I think changing the focus to stability is a huge win.

The developers needing to focus on playability for the entire duration of the game's development adds a ton of work. Imagine if a project like GTA 6 had to prioritize making it playable the entire time.

@ never said the entirety of the work. nice try at adding words into peoples mouth though. I said that after all this time, people are worn out and the crew that made this even possible is getting older. At some point they will not be contributing anymore and lets face it, the current generation is much less able to tolerate promises of a great game for another 10 years. If they don't start getting the game to a playable state, they will fade into obscurity as just a failed kickstarter and the IP will be sold off to a microsoft

I believe the game is on its final leg and if they dont start showing us there is some stability in what is in the game now they are going to lose a lot of us. I for one am sick and tired of play testing only to have problems so bad I cant even login and where those blockers are half assed fixed and then if I can by some chance get back in there are so many bugs that its not even worth testing. Especially given many of these issues have just been carried over from patch to patch to patch and never addressed! Now that meshing is in the game and that is the reason we have been pounded with understanding to be the last and the biggest challenge. If they dont start acting like a AAA game developer, fixing bugs for things they put in the game before adding new features and functionality they will not survive! There are no more excuses for building this game like EA builds games!
@Hav0k
@Hav0k 26 күн бұрын
I understand the skepticism, but i honestly disagree that it's on its last leg. There are too many people that are too invested for them to give up with it. I get that bugs suck, but the game has a bit further to go to deliver more content and if playability and stability are the focus given that static server meshing is in and players are playing far more than in the past. And to be honest, they aren't building this game like EA has. This game has always been a work in progress and this fact was never hidden. It was never advertised as a finished game like many of EA's games.
