Is day this isn't really comparable to either. The cat and Carrack are both more versatile in the field, having multiple medium modules, where as this in theory will perform a single task better with it's single large module, but it's less brittle in the field. I see this as a mod ground between the cat and a more specialised ship.

@@MrEsphoenixThe Carrack wouldn't be in any other fields besides science and maybe medical for the modules. The Caterpillar I don't know the size of the modules and we kinda don't know if a module take up more then one slot. Like the endeavor some modules takes 2 slots. Also the level of each modules going to be like if the Cat has medical modules would the highest be only tier 2 or 3 beds. The cargo capacity is 512 in the module [Eight 32-SCU containers to a side, btw] + the 64 SCU on the sides of the hangar bay. That's 576, or the same as the Caterpillar. I would love to see a military variant, that acts as a pocket carrier (RSI has the Gunboat, Torpedo boat, and as such a carrier would fit well in the lineup) Slightly better weaponry, perhaps better shields, and then the module combined with the hangar to fit 2x Scorpius or something like that. Part of the problem is that CIG keeps adding ships with features that don't exist in game yet. If mobile refining was a thing it would be much easier to justify the Galaxy on the refining module alone, especially of you could refine quantanium on the spot and throw it into the ship fuel tanks for usage. They have all these great ideas for modularity and the modules don't do a damn thing yet.

I passed this one despite how much I like the idea and looks. I'll re-evaluate after the Q&A drops but don't see anything that could alter my opinion in the Spectrum thread. The loadout seemed confused with weak turret placement and undersized shield that left it in the victim ship realm. And if you don't get all the modules you'd be better off buying just the specialized profession ships like a C2 for cargo since they're better in every way. Without a module it's little more than a flying hangar for a snub. And if you care about LTI you need to get the 600+ euro complete pack before the concept reveal sale ends. Gonna grab a couple of cheap upgrades to speculate on the CCU chaining minigame though. What you didn't mention in the end was that the Carrack also has three planned modules and that the Endeavour Hope hospital ship is currently in the price range of the Galaxy and comes with a bigger hangar and bigger medical facilities.

Note that you can lock in the price of the concept price of $350 for as little as $5. You buy a token upgrade from a from some ship to the Galaxy costing you only the difference between the two ships. To get the $5 token you pick a ship that's worth $345 (You do not need to own this ship or buy in "right now") and then upgrade to the galaxy, giving you a upgrade token in your hanger. If shit goes badly for the game in the future your only out $5 instead of $350.

For me I can’t see the use for the refinery module as it doesn’t have much room to store refined goods so you’re gonna need another ship anyway, the cargo module for me is daylight robbery, that’s should have been the base model as I can’t see what use a “modularless” Galaxy would be. I like the idea of the Medical variant as a potential search and rescue/respawn ship and it seems equipped to perform for far longer and more varied excursions than an Apollo, given that it has all tiers of Med beds as standard, a cargo lift as let’s face it there will be an URSA medical one day, also the Pisces C8R to go and stabilise and recover.

I never considered comparing it against the carrack, I would buy a dorito if I didn't have a red alert carrack and m2, but m2 can cargo and I'm planning to buy a apollo medivac so I don't really feel the need for the dorito, although the "1 less turret, but more powerful" does very much appeal to me, less crew needed and more power in each gunner's hands. Also why the dorito can excel at all 3 things, it can only do 1 of the things at a time, while a carrack will be able to carry both relatively lots of cargo and still have a T1 medbed available simultaneously. Also I think you brought up a good question, what if I"m several systems away from my modules? A final thing to consider is if you have individual ships, like the RAFT for cargo, expanse for refining and apollo for medical, you have 3 very distinct looking and feeling ships, a much more diverse looking and feeling fleet as a result.

Actually, consider modules like "owned" equipment that you have a voucher for with RSI. So long as you own one, you can get one installed at any RSI location that has the module and capacity to install it. This means all you have to do is show up and request one to be installed. They check the system and see that you currently own a copy of that module but do not have it installed on a ship. So they will install it for you on your ship. If you have a module already installed they swap it out. The module you are turning in becomes a voucher in your database and they refurbish it for any damage or degradation. We might have to pay a small fee, but that shouldn't cost us much more than our normal maintenance would for taking care of the same thing. This gives us much greater flexibility and ensures our systems are kept at high levels of maintenance.

Only thing galaxy seems to have a good prospect for is the idea of a freighter with some okay defenses, and small snub hangar, or as a mobile hospital with the C8R in the back or something similar to go grab people and bring back to ship etc. I think Medical module makes most sense to see this used as and people who really like design could enjoy the cargo. Refinery module doesn't make much sense when expanse exists, your losing out all your cargo assumingly and just have the 64SCU which you need to use for refinery which is same storage size the expanse gets. Expanse is better when consider having it limited so much to that role, and can land work with a kraken easily and has more refinery units.

Like usual for CIG ships, the Galaxy is a very cool ship full of flaws and compromises. It looks awesome but it has sub-par weapons, no pilot controlled guns for whatever reason and a modular system that leaves half of the ship empty, with no use when not equipped. It's basically a concept ship that at best is a worst version of specialized ships. I also really don't know what a refinery module even would add to a ship with no mining capabilites. Are we supposed to play alongside Prospectors and Moles? If so this ship depends on others to be useful and that's really not good. This ship has no identity and the modules can't make up for it unfortunately. I can see it as a medical ship or a cargo hauler, but do we really need more ships like this? Wouldn't a small medical bay with the base Galaxy be better so the module space could be used for something else? I mean, do we really need a sub capital ambulance? No we don't.

the 64 SCU is hanger space (accessed through a ramp) but this will all change. Still, this is one of the ships that to me (due to the hangar an d I like the RSI look) gives the Caterpillar a run for its money. Modularity. With this ship they have at least announced the modules which with the Carrack or Caterpillar they have hinted at, and there are some docs, but nothing really confirmed. @ReallyDazed
@ReallyDazed 2 жыл бұрын
My best guess on module transport is the simplest. If you have the base ship, all modules associated with it -- go with it. Which one you are actually using will be determined by your hangar customization terminal. Edit: I agree that the Apollo will probably do a better job with medical but I disagree about the same case with the expanse and refining. From what we know, the galaxy will be able to refine much more at much faster speeds. So if you want a serious refining ship for company ops, you'd take the Galaxy.

Carrack vs Galaxy Comparison - The range on size 5 guns of 2800 vs 1800 or less on the Carrack may also be a point in the Galaxy's favor. The Carrack carries roughly 80% of the cargo of the Galaxy Freighter and has the one permanent T2 Medbay rather than having to switch out for the more robust Medical Module for the Galaxy. If far from base, the Carrack is a bit of everything already, but the Galaxy can specialize to a greater extent all around. One's for Science, one's for industry. It's an interesting choice made a bit easier by the loaner of a Carrack. About the modules: Med Bay looks like the same set up as the Apollo. Galaxy likely has more range and is more defendable. Apollo is quick to buzz in and out and if they ever implement the patient retrieval drones...that's something. Apollo crew requirements are much smaller at 1 however. Cargo Bay turns it into a Caterpillar. Same SCU capacity. Galaxy far better armed, Cat has double the shields. Refinery Bay only has 2 reactors, Expanse has 6. Galaxy MUCH better range through and is not made of wet tissue paper like the Expanse. Expanse also set to have crew of 1 though. Complete Galaxy only 75% of the cost of the 3 ships that its modules emulate.

IMO the Galaxy is a competitor to the Caterpillar, same cargo SCU, same length, no dedicated med bay etc. and lacking firepower. To note, the tier 2 beds respawning would just be a placeholder since there are no tier 1 beds in any ships. When any tier 1 bed is implemented in the game, I believe only the tier 1 beds will be able to let you respawn. Also, the Apollo will have the ability to configure 2 tier 1 bed in the ship. So if you are interested in the medical gameplay for the galaxy, please think before if you just want a mobile respawn beacon (base) or a "hospital". Since the galaxy is a better hospital, but not a better respawn beacon.

I understand that people thought modules would be scummy but imagine if they released 3 different ships that would be triple the price
@Jirodyne
@Jirodyne 2 жыл бұрын
That IS basically what they are doing. Even if the modules are 'Cheaper' than the ship as a whole, the Modules are STILL very expensive compared to, say, buying a BRAND NEW ship. The modules cost $70, $80, and $90 each. You can just buy new ships for that price. If they cost like $5 or $10 each, people probably wouldn't complain too much. But $70 to $90? You can buy 2 brand new ships for $90, or a bunch of cheap full fledge games to play for months and years. The value is NOT worth it. It is 100% a Money Grab.
@rooster1012
@rooster1012 2 жыл бұрын
It is not that modules are "scummy" it is that there are like 8 other ships that are modular or have modular items and they are not mentioned at all, on top of that modularity will require the same devs that are currently working on server meshing which means we won't see modularity until 2024 at the earliest most likely.

When it comes to the cargo module if all the places that sell cargo do it in those bigger containers I think that will make the galaxy the best cargo ship that can land at outpost and the quickest to load considering the amount of cargo. The hull C can't land to get cargo so limits where it can do trade and the Caterpillar uses 1 SCU boxes which will take much longer to load making the Galaxy with a cargo module faster to load for that amount of cargo due to the large containers.

Well everything in Star Citizen is supposed to have weaknesses. In the case of the galaxy it is bad turret placement and coverage and weak shielding which you have to combat with a small fighter stored in the hangar. In combat it is basically helpless and a sitting duck.

@@StarBuZZpro the same could be said for the C2 Hercules yet it has two S3 shields. Great video sir! Really shows how sometimes the BEST content is not the FIRST content. You put real thought into your breakdowns and use cases, and were working off of the inevitable corrections to the original “oopsie we made a mistake” burst that CIG always starts off with. I think the only other comparison it would have been great to see/make would have been with the Endeavor, which obviously does not have mention of a refinery, but for those focused on medical and flexibility is likely to offer more. I myself bought a CCU to the Galaxy and the medical module (all with store credit) based on the initial “XS Hangar”, but then changed my mind and melted for an endeavor CCU after the correction. My use case is “large system base of operations” so for my ship that I don’t plan on landing I really need a bigger hangar than XS. Thanks!

I hope the side turrets have a good arc to make up for the lack of a dorsal turret. It kind of reminds me of those kids that think they're cool when they make their honda civic as loud as possible.

as he said in the video the pilot has no access to the remote turrets, only to missles. Since they are remote turrets there may be the possibility to install server blades which slave them to the pilot. but limits them to fire forward (similar to how the Superhornet's turret works), but this feature is still far out and there is no guarantee that they won't change their mind on this later on. Considering we won't see this ship ingame for the next 3-4+ years if not even longer things might have changed by then though.

@scdeluge
@scdeluge 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, I think modules will be inconvenient. With how CIG handles others features like loading cargo you can be almost certain it will come with a timer and or fee. It’s also not efficient. If you have other ships you can potentially rent them out to a orgmates, friends, maybe npc. If the module isn’t in a Galaxy, it’s an asset not at work. Where will it be stored?Persistent hanger? If it’s stored separately is there an extra fee? If they want to introduce more diverse gameplay options, without spending development on a “large complicated ship”, they should have concepted small portable homesteading equipment like generators, refineries, medical instruments, food/shopping carts, crafting stations etc. If they can be held, rolled or hovered they can be deployed from most ships today.

It's even possible you'd be able to double-hook said big containers with both of the cranes in the cargo module, which would certainly be neat. But watching this video, it really feels like if you have multiple specialised ships in a grand whale fleet that can individually be superior at their specialisation, you've already skipped past the Galaxy and you're just no longer the intended customer.
