Then you should probably wait until the game is in beta if that’s the most important thing for you as that’s quite literally the entire point of a beta.

@ Oh you’re not wrong, but I’m still going to bang my face bloody on Star Citizen each night. I’ve never heard CIG even talk about a beta stage. They have a path from alpha to 1.0 but no where discuss what a beta phase looks like. Clearly they need to go through a polish phase but will that be a formal public beta? 🤔💭

Focusing on these things in Alpha will increase development time by 2x - 3x. People don't understand that, though. CIG focusing on stability at this point with so many unfinished systems is going to mean they need to cut about 85% of planned features. Otherwise, it's going to be a few decades to get the rest of things in while maintaining "game stability, bug smashing, and quality of life".

And yeah 2025 looks like it's not going to be great in general. Hopefully at least Star Citizen can come up with at least something to lift the that burden ahead of us moving forward yes? As there's literally nothing else to look forward to in gaming, let alone in reality this year either right? Fingers crossed they finally do something right. 🤞🤞🤞

Started with 3 friends yesterday as complete noobs we're been following the game for quite a while now, people told us it's not worth because it's full of bugs and there is no real gameplay loop, so after we heard about the 4.0 and the upcoming base building we finally saw hope it being a really fun and we're the kind of people who play a lot of alphas/betas EA's so i would argue that we are kinda used to games being a mess so yea, forgot to say that one of my friends had already played for 5 days prior to me but not really (logged in one for day and watched youtube video guides about the game) so we had a tiny bit of knowledge. Wall of Text incoming - Started off by accidently installing the LIVE 3.2/4? version instead of the 4.0 version - Logged in woke up swung my mouse around and noticed stutter lags, changed to Vulkan Render and noticed that DLSS wasn't on so i had to restart a few times to fix it. Had some capacity errors and infinite loading screens trying to make it work. - Tried adding my Friends ingame so they told me you can't (only in menu) had to reconnect. - Tried to connect via friends on the same Server (never worked) - Ran around solo for a while in Pyro checked out Vendors and followed the Signs - Server Error waited 10 Minutes because friend told me it would relocate me (never happend had to console quit) - Capacity Errors again trying to join my Friend - Friend had Server Error couldn't connect to any EU Servers only US so we decided to go there. - Wouldn't let me connect to my Friends again (decided to stay solo for a few hours) - After streaming discord to get some directions i get into my Hangar started my Ship went out and in landed again and got teleported through the mesh and died instantly. - Woke up in Medical went down again and it happend again. - More crashes and Server Errors (took about 20 min) - Went down Elevator again and got teleported again (noticed it happend everytime it said Unknown's Hangar) - Decided to fly to a lesser populated Area from checkmate to Nest? can't remember - Did a Warp to that location, somehow it broke and got shot by a Npc in 3-4 shots (friend told me because of shields after warp) - Alt F4'd - Tried the same thing again (go to Nest) finally did it, noticed a huge fps difference from 90 to 130+ - Friend told me to set my location in the medical thing - Server Error in front of Elevator (almost quit again) - Elevator problems (not opening doors, Unknown Hangar) - Went into my own Hangar again and we decided to party up again (at least try it) - After researching and trying a lot of things for about 1 hour trying to play together ( rebinding accept button for example ) we transfered to the same Server. - Waited in my Hangar and got teleported again into the Mesh - Went into Hangar spawned my Ship went AFK to watch the POE Announcement Livestream, tabbed back after 20 Minutes and had a blackscreen (apparently AFK kick) - Reconnected after a few tries and it worked again - One of my guys had a big ship already (real real money) because his account was kinda old so we went with 2 Ships instead of 3. - Shared cargo missions and never got a Marker popping up (apparently only alt f4 fixed it) so we did that. - Fix never worked and after finally doing something together after trying for 5 hours we had a Server crash again (waited for 30 Minutes) - Gave up quit the Game. So yea after all of that we still wanna give it a try on Monday since i've read that Servers were poopy today specially in Weekends. I know it's a wall of text but i just wrote it down so people can understand how miserably it is for a set of new players to actually do something. If you've been reading until here thank you for reading.

Your experience is totally in line with what I experienced when trying to bring some friends in. I decided back in 2022 that I was going to end my 8 year break from SC to 'let them cook' as shill channels like bored gamer made it sound like 'big things were right around the corner' and bring some friends in with me in 2023 to check out the implemented game play loops. My reasoning was that it was already several years late and if they didn't make serious progress soon I worried the project might fold up without ever completing. We ran into bug after bug after bug just like you did, and in the end one of the friends has sworn never to come back, and the other two are moderately indifferent and will only come back if we play together after the rate of dangerous bugs has gone down by 10x or so. Fast forward to here and now ~two years later and all I can tell you is not to listen to people who suggest that 'everything will change soon' - CIG is just not capable of fixing things at any reasonable rate, and the content they have implemented in the last year has tended to make the game an even more tedious grind.

I had some issues here and there, but not as bad as you described. I can count the crashes and stuck ships in elevator I had on one hand. Disappearing mission were driving me nuts for a while and I had to turn off my CPUs e-Cores for 4.0 Preview to play lag free, because 13th Gen CPUs are weird? All in all, I believe everyone’s experience is a different kind of annoying and/or bad, but I still had a pleasurable experience so far (2 months) and I can say for certain that I am hooked.

I took an 8 year break after testing the flight tutorial way back in 2015 to 'let them cook'. I originally intended to make it a 2 year break because you know, Chris was assuring us that 'all of this and more' would be out in 2016 so I figured that waiting to 2017 would be good. Well, life happened, and the 2 year break turned into 8 before I made the mistake of watching shill channels like bored gamer talking about how all sorts of great stuff was *just around the corner* and hyping it up as working pretty well already. I jumped in just in time for 3.17 and I was not impressed by how buggy and feature bare it was. Then 3.18 happened, which was a nightmare. The whole time those shill channels were still chirping about how big things were just around the corner, but despite Chris and his 'inflection points' CIG is still dramatically underdelivering on their targets and if anything playability is getting downgraded sharply with ever fiddlier cargo elevators, inventory management, and ever present basic hit detection bugs. Anyone who is still trying to assure people that they should just wait as 'big things are coming soon' should be pitied, as they obviously can't recognize a pattern but do try to borrow money from them as they've shown they'll put up with a decade of BS excuses and then accept less than half of what you owe them and be happy.

Id love for some changes to basic game design they could do now, like beginner missions shouldn't take you across the entire playable space. Entry level missions should be as close to the players initial spawn location as possible. Ideally you should be walking up the first time you load the game in your apartment and your first mission be in that same city. Then you move to the planet. Then the moons of that planet. Then the next nearest planet, and so on. Instead you wake up, take your first mission, and have to take a 6 min quantum jump trip. It's just bad design.

I'm done waiting. Eeeevery year they are going to do A en B and also C, but more of D .. and in the end, they repeat every same promisse, over and over. Gameplay features come out one tea spoon at a time while the biggest effort is punt in new ships and visual assest. But once they need to deliver a system that is a bit more difficult to implement, all goes to sproutch and it gets delayed or even "forgotten". So if people want to still give them a 15th chance, I understand. Some really love what the game is now and are happy with the money they gave them and all that is good. But I'm done. Since I went another route, I enjoyed all the new games I discoverd and played the last two years. Maybe once SQ42 is out, I'll give it a go, but I have a weird feeling they are also lying to us over there with the same old prologue beeing polished and ready for a preview, but nowhere ready for a full launch. It's mind bogling to me, that in a 1 hour prologue/tutorial, you spend 15 minutes behind a turret and 10 minutes in a rough FPS shooter with zero real dogfighting. Maybe I'm wrong, but this just convinces me more and more that they are no near to be ready with a stable and functioning flight model and an overal space game like they initially promissed (the successor of Wing Commander and Freelancer). Now we have a whole bunch of small and kneedeep gameplay loops, glued together between 2 very beautifull, but almost empty solar systems. And every year, is THE year for Star Citizen, but this is based on loose promisses and guesses. So yeah .. Now, I'm looking more forward to an audit result of how they managed the game, than to the game itself.

This isn't like the 2018 focus on playability, 'all of this and more next year' in 2015, the 'inflection point' in 2023, 'staggered development' in 2019, or that year spent on that 'roadmap to a roadmap of only the high confidence stuff' that crashed and burned. This is the time CIG is actually going to deliver on their marketing spin. No seriously, the scary part is that there are people who can look at their track record and actually believe them when they announce something like this.

As an OG backer since 2013. I strongly suggest to avoid the pledge store and feeding into CIG’s business model. Marketing is not necessary in this stage of development. They *should* have enough crowd funding to fund the development teams, and less focus on marketing. As stated in the video, game stability, bug fixes, and quality of life improvements is what we severely need. Otherwise players will continue to feel disconnected. I’m keeping my distance until the later quarters of the year to avoid burnout. I recommend playing other games or getting involved in arena commander where performance is more present. Not saying you can’t play the PU, but play at your own risk. Salute to the devs and dedicated bug smashers out there o7.

They have a lot of work to do, when you can only play on the weekend... which means waiting 10 minutes in server queue, only to then not even get loaded into the server, so you have to exit the game, restart, sit in another 10 minute queue, and again cross your fingers that you actually get put into a server. 30 minutes just to get into the game, then you spend another 20 minutes prepping for your session - after an hour into your game session you can start your contracts or gameplay, try to leave your hanger and boom, you can't leave or the server is exploding every 10 minutes.... restart the loop.. before you know it your gaming time is gone, and you got to do nothing in the game. maybe next weekend. No features or loops matter when the stability is so bad you can barely play it.

Player beacons, especially if they have gameplay hand wavium to prevent duplicates of a location, will be the biggest mechanic to facilitate connecting gameplay loops. Exploration is certainly one, but also combat players can drop a beacon off after a ship battle and sell the location to salvagers for a better deal than salvage missions.

It's almost as bad as 3.18 for me. Nothing works, I can't even get out of my hanger 90% of the time and when I do I fall through a planet or my ship just vanishes/explodes. Everyone kept telling me how smooth the game was and I was smoothly unable to do anything meaningful in the game. I usually defend SC in most places but this patch is a nightmare for a lot of people.

They still need a realistic flight model that doesn't simultaneously create balancing headaches for all the jpeg promises they've sold. I'm convinced CIG is incapable of resolving the issue at this point, and instead of a space flight sim we're getting a high def MMO I literally never wanted. I don't care about ground missions and cargo, I don't care about crafting, I don't care about plushies and plants. That said, if the flight element of the game which all other elements revolve around were actually fulfilling instead of a DPS race to the bottom of a magazine or capacitor, I would greatly enjoy all those other aspects as well.

Well, they have their work cut out for them. 2024 was such a letdown in a lot of ways - coming from the previous Citcon and all the 'Feature Complete" positive messaging for S42 to CR moving back to the UK to personally oversee and get it across the finish line to a year with not a whole lot delivered (granted what we did get on the technical side was significant), a delay to S42 ... it was just such a buzzkill year and this was reflected in the funding which dropped for the firs time in years. It's year 13 for me and I'm in deep with this game - but I can't be bothered to play it. Not just because of bugs and performance but also because I don't like what it's turning into - basically a play on EVE-level murder and extreme tedium. I still wish the best for the title though - I want it to succeed but I am not confident in CI. They used that up my goodwill a long time ago. If they deliver and finally turn this ship around, fine, I'll get back onboard. But you'll forgive me on having doubts.

Weird time to jump ship bro. I HELD THE LINE!! Lmao.. seriously though take a bigger picture view and try to see how HUGE server meshing and the jump to 500 players, with MUCH better performance and stability. The big 3 in MMO development; Performance/ Stability/ Scalability. Are they getting significantly better? You have to YES. And now with CIG focusing on crafting brings ALL the other gameplay loops to even MAKE SENSE. Why are mining? for Crafting materials for ships and guns ect ect.. why are you runnin Cargo in the future; Not for the simple missions we do now, but for our Orgs where we see direct and indirect benefits from your Hauling much needed food and materials to and from your orgs facilities across the Verse. Why do we explore? To find new minerals, new planets, new wormholes and if CIG is smart, with a HUGE universe they are building, EASTER EGGS that lead to big in game changes to technology ect. Once they get the base game elements in place and its relatively stable and CIG has tools in place to give players their lost profits, items and ships due to bugs there is a lot to look forward to. This engine and the game they are building is LIGHT YEARS ahead of where it was even in 2018. I don't know why people don't see it. Trust me, I've yelled at this game and LOST so much shit its not even funny, but I try to take proper context view of what CR and CIG are doing here. I'm not a stupid optimist, just I think most people these days in UNBELIEVABLY and TOXICALLY CYNICAL. I'm a realist. If you don't see how much this game has changed since its inception, you are just focusing on the negative and not taking the big picture into play. I think a lot of the loud cynics in the comments are people who spent money they didn't have on a ton of ships, instead of just being smart and pledging $45 to get all 3 games and access to the PU. Thats a fuckin STEAL. I melted my first starter to get a Cutty and thats all I need to put in this game. So I spent $100 total, and I've already gotten my moneys worth lol.

Server meshing is new and as players we need to give our feedback to the developers. The biggest reasons to break out the bubbly have been the creation and implementation of server meshing and jump points. I think we've hit a milestone. New system, jump points, and server meshing. Replication layers also are great starting point. Things are on track to improve. Though not as fast as some folks of you out there would like. Star Citizen is in Alpha. Not Beta. There will be growing pains. So unbolt those training wheels and ride on two wheels.

I myself have always viewed such bugs not as showstoppers which only discourage me from further play, but as obstacles to be overcome. Knowing that a server crash, the dreaded 30k, is always looming during multi-million spacebuck cargo hauling runs just adds an element of spice that wouldn't normally be associated with cargo hauling. It might irritate some but stability only being focused after 4.0 *always* made the most logical sense. I have been saying this for 6+ years. It comes down foundational tech. You build off your foundation. Server meshing was always what we needed to get the game to where they wanted it to be. Granted, server meshing isn't done. We still have dynamic server meshing but that purpose is only for scaling up. Supporting 10,000 players rather than 600 or a thousand players. The enjoyment and performance of the game, needed server meshing. We have that, now the focus is on stability and making the experience feel good. But this will take time. 4.0 preview has only been out for 3 weeks. People may not see it now. But this was the first step NEEDED for stability. It addressed fundamental server issues that has been plaguing the game since 2.0. And like that awful 3.18, the bugs will eventually get fixed. 117 bug fixes in 4.0.1. So while there may be a lot of anger like there was with 3.0, it was needed. I've experienced hours and hours of continous gameplay with 4.0 with no bugs. That's never happened before. So, despite the issues, it has me excited for the future.

Fix the gameplay, fix the ramps on the Hercules, start using all that new money that came in from sales on the Pioneer, Polaris, Paladin and the Atlas to actually fix the gameplay; ie, Falling through planets, being unable to use jump points and having to cycle power, Starmap routing not working, not being able to use the Starmap at all, having the incapacitated warning sound play over and over after being reanimated, fixing not being able to refuel/rearm in hangars, being stuck inside of hangars, hangars not functioning as intended, handheld items being lost after transferring them to armor/backpacks/containers, not being able to transfer or interact with items at all, ammo not repooling, double reload animations, fps weapons not reloading entirely, being stuck inside elevators, elevators not working, double elevator doors, falling through elevators into the planet/station, cargo/items disappearing on hangar lifts, vehicles inside of hangars jitter and bounce around uncontrollably, ships spawning on hangars upside down, ships double spawning in hangars, ships being destroyed in hangars because of the store/retrieve functions not working properly, being unable to store certain ships or ground vehicles in hangars, missions not spawning, missions failing bc you were incapacitated for whatever reason, missions not working because of XYZ not working as intended, just to name a few. If they would fix the current features they have in game already instead of pushing for MORE features to push for the next ship sale, then I'll come back.

Heard that Star Citizen 2.0 will come with working elevators! Hard to believe it, still I'm so excited about the future!

This May marks TEN YEARS since I originally pledged. I've held out a lot of hope, and I've cared about this game a lot. I've tested, I've reported bugs, I've convinced friends to pledge. But I'm at the point where I just don't care. If it gets to an actual release product, cool. If not, oh well. I hate that it's come to this. But I just don't bother even tracking development anymore. It'll take a lot to dedicate space on my hard drive again. I'll probably dive in if they ever release SQ42. But we'll see.

I seriously doubt that CIG will move away from their "storefront game" focus with new releases for players to buy, to a "working game" focus. Unless they've been seeing drastically diminishing player numbers and lowered sales numbers due to that, they'll continue to be 85% focused on storefront. Or so I fear. I would LOVE for this game to become a stable space sim with PvP enabled in many areas etc. Trading, mining, crafting/production, cargo hauling - imagine seeing a game as gorgeous as SC with actual playability? Looking at you 2027, big expectations for ya!

I feel like there is more than enough in star citizen right now for it to be considered "Done" as long as the game worked. And releasing 4.0 in the state its in right now had to have been a huge hit to the player count
