If they combine this gameplay style with the EVE Online economy style features this game could become pretty cool. It could start out with a smaller portion of space and expand through player activity. Players explore, then build and expand the empire of earth while defending it from outside aliens. Sounds pretty cool to me, EVE Online has a little too boring game play for me on it's own, but put together with this FPS style it could be something I'd play a lot!
@FSSZilla8 жыл бұрын
+GeneralBlackNorway I genuinely believe that's the idea behind this game.

On some level, that's a little bit of the idea, but the devs were adamant about it "not being EVE Online with cockpits."
@rexspaulding88718 жыл бұрын
That's interesting - I love EVE simply because it feels more like what _I_ imagine future space flight would likely be - long distance, highly automated. Space is so huge, that what we perceive as a "large" distance, would be nothing in space. Fights would take place by scanning signatures, detecting the vessel, and attempting to launch weapons that massive distance. Think of it like current naval warfare - boats these days don't rely on L.O.S. with the other vessel. Many warships are attacking blind, miles away. So the only way I could see a fast-paced dogfight in space would be small vessels taking on a capital ship and its defenses - and even then, I imagine those fighter/bomber small units would be drone/automated ships. It's cool, don't get me wrong. But this seems more like a space-warfare-simulator, whereas EVE seems more like a general space-simulator (including all the politics, business, industry, etc)

@matthewdunphy85248 жыл бұрын
+Scott Manley I have fond memories of Star Wars Galaxies' Jump to Lightspeed. Being able to walk around your ship and "feel it" was what made everything click for me. I remember when somebody had to run through my ship to repair it in a last ditch effort to jump to lightspeed before we all got blown up by another player. It made space battles come alive for me. It was from that moment that I realized how critical ship interiors are to the immersiveness of space sims for me. That moment would not have been the same if my friend was just hacking away at a console rather than running to a physical part of my ship to make the repair.
@MRInvidian6618 жыл бұрын
It can be a racer because the ship is supposed to change based on configuration. It could probably be changed to a setup closer to how it looks before takeoff for races. I think they said there's supposed to be 3 different flight modes for the ship.

my god this is going to be the best game ever No, seriously, No Man's Sky's biggest problem is that it is based on traveling and on gathering materials, and that's it, with those materials you improve your equipment in order to obtain more materials, and that's it. But this Star Citizen is going to feel kinda like a Mass Effect, obviously not having a superb story, characters and lore but the same level of detail, of immersion. You're in a huge universe, and this universe is full of people, of ships, of partners you are going to play with, and you can drive a fucking lot of ships and specially, interact with them, the simple fact of being able to move inside the ship while it's moving just gives me shivers, idk, it's the feeling of immersion. Landing on planets and shooting in every situation, posible stealth mechanics, planetary and space exploration... just perfect.

this is super impressive, probably the best designed ships Ive ever seen in a game. It almost feels like I will never get to play release its been so long but I would rather it be solid on release because this is the dream, it ticks all the wish boxes. I think Id probably spin out and wet myself when this releases.

Not sure if your aware Scott, but there is a milspec version of the Starfarer, I believe it's the Gemini. So it really doesn't buck the needed this for Squadron 42 trend.

Scott I think they may use pre-made models for the major damage and then generate minor details procedurally

randomnickify The starfarer ship inside is kinda the size of a csgo map. The interior of E:D ships are kinda the same size (although a bit bigger). I can't even imagine the interior of the capital ships in E:D maybe like a whole gta map or something like that

As someone that works on ships, that amount of space in the captains quarters isn't that uncommon, you usually find it on bigger ships (150m+), especially if the ship is built for longer routes. There wouldn't really be that much empty space though, there would probably be a soffa and a tv to fill it!

@adrienperie61198 жыл бұрын
Its absolutely beautiful. I'm no backer of the game (because I had and still have great doubts about the final result if any), but I gotta say, the people who make the models are good. Maybie too good, because for now, the "game" is just an expensive pretty spaceship model factory basically beyond the novelty of the few modes. This would be the first time a hugely financed hugely hyped very ambitious game makes it beyond that stage if it happens. I think most of the money never reaches anything but people's pockets to be fully honest but I might be wrong for sure. Still though, I have never ever regretted not buying into the hype and investing my cash before the game is out or practically out. The idea that people who got in quick are better off can not be true, because they need to sell copies, and nobody buys an online game when they feel like they don't have very close to equal chances with everyone else.
@rapter2298 жыл бұрын
There is one problem with your reasoning, and that is if buying in early gets you a discount. Which for Star Citizen, until recently, was the case. Before feb 14th, buying in gave also gave you the Single player Squadron 42 module. Now it costs extra. So, the idea that people who got in early could be better off is a possibility, assuming the game is good.
@adrienperie61198 жыл бұрын
rapter229 You missed my point. They simply can't afford to make joining early enough of an advantage (unless maybie you spend crazy money, but what's the fun in getting ships from the start instead of working up to them ?) for me and many other people to take the risk of the whole thing being crap like it statistically has every chance to be from past experience with such types of projects.
@godinintaki14968 жыл бұрын
Adrien Perié The amount you save is higher the earlier you joined. The earliest packages got you not only SC, but SQ42 Ep. 1 and 2. Now, a $45 package is only getting you SC or SQ42, and just to get both costs $60 now. Eventually, it'll split, and will cost $60 each, and an additional cost (unknown atm) to get Ep. 2. EDIT: Also, you've experienced other developers fails, not CIG. Have you even played the alpha at all, there has been since last October 4(?) free flight weekends.
@rapter2298 жыл бұрын
Adrien Perié $15 dollars is the difference. I wasn't comfortable buying in at first, but after playing the free weekend, I saw they were going to remove the complimentary Single Player, and jumped on it. Unlike every other failed kickstarter game, Star Citizen actually has the potential to become one of the greatest games ever made. Which means, even if it falls short, it will still likely be better than anything AAA studios have put out in years. I am not saying you are wrong to consider it a risk, but there IS benefits to buying in. You have to consider it from a risk/reward standpoint. Compare the money required to buy in, to a end product that is only 50% feature complete. Most kickstarter games would be unplayable at 50%, but 50% for Star Citizen would likely provide more enjoyable hours of in-game play time than many other $45 games. Which means, Star Citizen would need to not just fall short of expectations, but fail SPECTACULARLY for me to not actually get my money's worth.
@adrienperie61198 жыл бұрын
"Which means, Star Citizen would need to not just fall short of expectations, but fail SPECTACULARLY for me to not actually get my money's worth." Yes and that's what happened every other time this happened with no exceptions. Not to say you made a mistake, it's just my buying policy for games and as I said I have no reason to change it yet since It never ever disappointed me. But I do hope it's gonna be great, I just think many people are going to be really really disappointed because they seem to think the game will be whatever they want it to be somehow ! rapter229

+Petrik Stur What there is now is a pvp mode where you dogfight with the smaller ships in the game and a proof of concept for the mmo portion, in which you can explore a single system and mostly just dick around. They have a few missions you can do for the mini persistent universe, but there isn't much in right now. There is a lot more planned, but that is all there is currently. Their current focus on development seems to be getting more of the ships in game and flyable, as well as developing the singleplayer portion of the game, which I don't think we will see until it is complete. Oh, and the game has a tutorial, which also doubles as a proof of concept for scripted missions.

the fuel is either helium 3, Deuterium, or Hydrogen. maybe other fusible gas/liquid. as the engines and generators are fusion based.

6:35 stunned everytime you enter an orange room or corridor.. PBR is truly an incredible leap in graphical beauty. Everytime a game features PBR shaders, every surface and material just looks "right". Magical. I'm very impressed at how far SC has come in the graphical polish so far. But the gameplay... Well, we'll see. 7:40 i mean just LOOK JUST LOOK AT HOW IT FUKN REFLECTS THE LIGHT FROM THE OTHER ROOM OMG IN REAL TIME ITS ............. amazing. I love PBR. lol. Was awesome in Fallout 4 too, but a bit understated (dusty nature of the post-apocalypse, i suppose). Honestly i must say the Cryengine has done the best PBR treatment so far of any game i've seen. I mean sure, Ryse was hella impressive with its gold and marble, but these spaceship metal parts and the way light naturally bleeds around are just unbelievable..
