Question if I hit the cockpit of a ship while dogfighting with lasers or ballistics does it kill the pilot?

Hmm so I can shoot off engines wings and other components but I can't hit the pilot in the cockpit. Makes me wonder if they decided sniping the pilot was too cheap. Happens to me alot on war thunder. I'll be doing real well except one guy who is just killing my pilot constantly and my teammates. I can't tell if that was hacks.
