I finally have a guide, someone who can give a tutorial on all things Star Citizen. Flying, delivery, mining, and the patience to handle a beginner. Meet Stuffenburg, equal parts teacher, salesman, and easy going friend. I learned a lot, and got to do my first mission, fly an expensive ship, drive ground vehicles, and mock a body laying in trash! I think I might like this game....
My PC will have to be upgraded, and I will have to learn an enormous amount to succeed, but I am in. On that note, alot of people have inquired about my specs, so here we go:
GPU: Ryzen RX570
RAM: 16GB DDR4 @3600
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x
SSD: ADATA SU635
I found out the hard way that some basic preparation is vital to have a good experience with the game. I need help. A lot of it. Thank you for watching, and I hope that some among you may be able to guide me, and keep me from complete self destruction.

Stuffenburg was smart to take you out in a Cutlass. Fantastic ship, good all around and easy to pilot. The Aurora LN you picked up is a solid starter ship but it will be a bit more nimble than the Cutlass so just be ready for the sharper turns and ease of handling.

Had one of the most memorable events for SC and nothing went right. About a year ago, 890 was available for subscribers. Whole bunch of fandoms teamed up to fly it. Spent 4 hours trying to meet up dealing with game crashes, deaths, server problems. Finally everyone was there. Played Tetris fitting ships in the hangar. Got attacked, scrambled fighters badly. Went to Hurston. Did bunker mission. Went to Lorville. Ran out of gas. Mad dash as everyone bailed in out in fighters and shuttles while the 890 was falling out of the sky. Great fun

I think I said this on another one of your videos, but as a backer since 2012 I like you show the rawness of the game. I mean sure, it is a great game, it really is. But its also got some REALLY big flaws. And its okay to show those flaws, as it draws attention to those flaws so they can hopefully be fixed one day. Keep it up!

Loving these videos! As a regular player, I like that these videos show for real beginner experience. The good, bad, and ugly videos are great because they bring attention to how the bugs in game now impact exprerience. What is weird about SC is that some days the bugs frustrate the experience so much you bail for th e day, but other times they make for incredible experiences somehow. They're fun or frustrating, depending on the day I suppose. Keep it up man! Looking forward to the next one.

You know, it takes a certain type of person to be able to walk a new player through EVERYTHING from equipping, troubleshooting why a mission did not work, looting, and just landing. That takes an incredible amount of patience, I was watching and I don't know if I could have done it for that long and with that amazing teaching attitude to walk you through the smallest of things (because you are new). My hat is off to that guy and I hope that he is teaching and leading in real life as well, we need more teachers/mentors out there.

I've been playing for over two years now. I forget just how much I've picked up and learned along the way. So many workarounds and things vets just accept could be totally bewildering for a new pilot. It's fun to see someone learning it
@jenathan76

I'm not sure if you noticed, but the reason you were having trouble landing at Tram & Meyers for your delivery is because you had cruise control on. Even with the throttle all the way down, cruise control will make you move forward at a constant speed, which makes landing far more challenging. You can tell it's on because there is a little line under your speed indicator on the HUD, and it can be toggled on/off by pressing C. Cruise is incredibly useful for longer flights, but I highly recommend turning it off for takeoffs and landings to give yourself full control.

The Cutty Black is an awesome little ship, and a huge staple of the SC community. It's a dropship, it's a fighter (kinda), it's a cargo runner, it's a delivery vehicle, and you can even put small ground vehicles in it. It has a little bit of everything, and is my all-time favorite daily-driver. Basically, if I don't know what ship to use, I use a Cutlass Black.

As someone who's extensively talked with many friends about ships- both one or two who aren't afraid to drop money, and the remainder who are adamant about the biggest bang for their buck, on a budget, while I've had an Aurora LN myself, and loved it to pieces, I do have two things to note about it: Anything short of box hauling to non-outposts it can do, the Mustang Alpha can do better (save for max speed, and it's not much faster) - The Mustang Alpha has a turreted nose, allowing you to still use gimbal modes with the larger guns over the base model Auroras, whereas the Aurora LN has hardpoints, requiring you to use fixed S2 guns there, which can screw with using gimbals on the remaining two S1 mounts It can only do two things better than any other Aurora: The 126DPS increase that comes with having two S2 guns, and four more max potential missiles. For the same price, at the sole cost of ease of doing hand deliveries, the Mustang Beta is hands down equal or better, and is a straight upgrade in the long run due to its onboard amenities over just a bed. For this, second, reason, I highly recommend melting your package back down, snagging the base game package via your quarterly Buy Back token, and getting the Aurora LX, for a number of reasons. #1: The only thing the LX lacks over the LN is the S2 guns, and the ability to load the 481 octuple S1 missile rack. The LX, unlike the MR, ES and CL, *can* load the 341 quadruple missile rack- the other 3 variants can only load the 221 dual S1 rack, in terms of S1 racks. (As armour is not fully implemented afaik, S1 missiles reign king as two S1 missiles is always superior to one S2 missile.) #2: You gain something no other Aurora variant has: 700L quantum fuel tank. All other Auroras have the standard small ship 583L tank, and so coupled with the S1 Atlas quantum drive, you get more range- in fact any quantum drive will go further with your increased fuel. This has applications now (less times you need to refuel) and longer term (tanks are going to go up when Pyro makes it in game, as currently very few ships have the tanks to make it from the Pyro-Stanton Jump Point to the nearest jumpable target within Pyro- using Port Olisar to Hurston as a known distance, and comparing that to the Ark Starmap distance for the same trip, the compression ratio of Ark Starmap to in-game distances actually winds up disbarring ANY ship save the Argo RAFT from making that jump- and the RAFT can only make it due to it having access to certain quantum drives that ships with far larger tanks than it, don't have access to. #3: Leather seat. C'mon, in a ship this utilitarian, this is a legitimate plus. The Aurora ES brochure literally advertises the fact the bed comes with a pillow as a feature! So yeah, I strongly recommend if you want an Aurora, the Aurora LX is the way to go- at the price point of the Aurora LN, the Mustang Beta is hands down better, unless you want to do deliveries. (At which point, keep the Aurora LX until such a time as you can do hand deliveries with the Mustang Beta in no-fire zones (or no-fire zones stop existing) and then simply plug the extra five bucks in at that point.)

You don't necessarily have to worry about crashing ships just yet, there's no punishment except having to wait some time to recover it for now. In the future we suspect you'll have to pay a recovery fee but it's not activated yet. So long as you don't have cargo in the ship you lose nothing. People showing new players around will not likely be trading or anything so they're fine.

Some stick with it... others are like "no way, man. too hard." I feel like it will be easier as the years go on, to get started. Hopefully there will be better tutorials. But the initial learning curve now, is very real. Once you put in some serious hours much of the basics will be old hat. St. Stuffenberg... Has a nice ring to it. Btw, sitting down on ships isn't only to prevent glitches. The game has actual inertial effects and just regular ship movements will knock you on your ass and CAN cause you serious injury, so the passenger seats aren't only for role playing. And one more thing... those keybinds were giving us anxiety. It sounded like Stuff was giving you the wrong directions. Even though it's a ghetto move for a PC gamer, you should try using a gamepad sometime. It's not quite Joystick and HOTAS, but it's a totally different experience from trying to fly with a mouse.

I believe that when flying in the red area of the speed limiter, you actually do additional wear and tear on your thrusters/components resulting in higher maintenance costs in addition to being less maneuverable and burning more hydrogen.
@wathak504
@wathak504 2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe so. Typically damage is done when overheating components. Flying in the red your not overheating the engines just cranking it to a speed that the maneuvering thrusters dont have enough power to change the deltaV. Using your booster or spacebrake might cause damage. Cant remember if thats technically an overclock. As for increase fuel cost you are mostly right. Fuel is actually affected by the thrust gauge not the speed gauge. The more your thrusters are firing the more they burn fuel. The initial fuel burn may be more than going at slow speed but once your upto speed and the thrusters stop burning you arn't using much fuel until you make a manuever. Dogfighting or flighing planetside actually burns more fuel because your thrusters are always firing.
@Ratswallow
@Ratswallow 2 жыл бұрын
@@wathak504 Hmm... As I recall the DEVs have mentioned in the past many times that flying in the red can have negative impact to components and especially maneuvering thrusters when attempting to turn at those higher speeds. Also, this seemed to be the case in my personal experience.

As you play more you'll learn little things like laying down / prone is buggy and will just avoid doing it. Running up and down ramps and stairs can cause weird physics glitches so lay off the shift key on them. Don't push your way into elevators, wait until it fully opens because on a slower server there's a chance it won't spawn in correctly. If you have desync avoid walking around the ship too much while in Quantum. And if the server feels unstable, change to a different server. I still have bugs but the ones I encounter will usually just be funny like the AI standing on chairs. Space battles tend to be less buggy. Biggest issues are desync, slow loading of assets like asteroids and bounties loading in slow or not right. Despite all that I can earn 400k an hour (sometimes more). Just immerse yourself in this world. Make friends. Play with friends. It's a sandbox game, treat it like one and create your personal narrative. Many bugs are user error. It's a complicated game and it's easy to mess things up (like cutting power to engines). Others like getting lost is because current games dumb things so much you just need to follow an arrow. But in real life you read signs. And some bugs are not bugs but poorly documented features. Wind can blow ships away. That's a design choice to encourage the use of Vehicles. The frustrating thing is most of the bugs encountered are due to an overburdened server. So these problems are likely to stick with us for the next year. It's still an amazing ride for those with the emotional maturity to handle an alpha.

One thing I've learned on Keyboard v. Joystick is that because the mouse is so volatile, it's more difficult to control. Even if you have a cheap stick, like me, use that for steering the ship!!! So much smoother. If you have a thrustmaster or something, even better! Keybind a few buttons to drop gear, quantum, maybe even set limiter... it'll make your experience even better!

Its probably a stupid question, but when going to sleep on the ship, does it stay in the server like everything else does? Or does it log when you do and render when you log back in?

It's ok to be in 3rd person, the problem is that you can't see your mouse cursor thingy. You have to make sure you're not turning before looking at the exterior view. It's very hard to find the dead zone once to start turning around without looking at your hud. With a joystick this is not a problem since it autocenters. For example, for landing, go to 3rd person, leave the mouse alone (unless holding Z) and only use the WASD and up and down keys and you'll be fine.

IF you change your flight controls a bit. You can land 3rd person as easy as 1st. Pitch/Yaw Controls to the Arrow keys.

Ok, so the limiter question was right and wrong. What he said was correct as going faster would be harder to control naturally...but what you said was also correct. It's like driving a car at 55mph regularly and driving a car at 85mph regularly. Your wear and tear will increase the faster you go. Not really in-game now as we can tell but will be in the future. I'm a 3rd-person fan myself. You can make a lot of mistakes using 1st-person in tight areas. For instance, the Carrack is a pretty big ship but CiG's wisdom has put that into a Large Hanger that "barely" fits it. Lastly, you can't turn off your helmet light in a seat, so turn it off before you get into the pilot seat.

Thanks for the further clarification walther, it makes sense that there would be a couple of negative conditions to using the red.

should've got a titan! Fits a golf cart in the back and not a bad dog fighter. Also find it helps to teach people the HUD. The altimeter, pitch, speed are important... especially landing low light when the objective looks 10K away but you see you're at 2K meters on the altimeter. My first time dropping off I was pissed because I used the wrong "place" too and didn't complete my mission.

You can turn off the chat that is on the left hand side of the screen with F12, that will make things easier to see. It would also be easier for you to interact and see screens if you turned off your flashlight which should default be T.

What I wish I knew most my first day: Do not buy expensive armor and guns. Every time you do, the game will glitch and kill you and you'll lose them all. Box missions to GrimHex aren't worth the time. Accept all the bounty missions. If you die, your ship is insured.

The Titan and Aurora used to be really bad about making the player fall out during quantum. I've ended up inside the top of the herc, clipped through the hatch of the Freelancer and Cutlass, fell through the cockpit glass of the Carrack. Collision failures are certain to happen.

I definitely glossed over that, my apologies. So the major change was taking some controls from the keyboard and moving them to the mouse. For example I use the forward arrow button on my mouse (the one by your thumb on a lot of mice) for craft descent, and the mouse back button for reverse. Those just made sense for the way my mind is wired. I can’t recall the others off the top of my head, I haven’t played in a month or so, but next time I go over this kinda stuff I’ll put those details in.
