I get why they retured the F7c Mk1 from the online stores, but not from the in game ones, as to my understanding of the one(s) that sold it, those are meant to be used ships, and a used ship dealer is exactly where you'd expect to find older models of ships.
@nightstorm103 ай бұрын
That's a really good idea actually - All the ships CIG decides to retire have a chance to randomly show up for sale at used ship dealers in small quantities (maybe even just one) so if you happen to be in the right place at the right time browsing through the used inventory you might come across one.
@AeroWB3 ай бұрын
A used ship dealer might come in the game later. But for now they need to make sure the Mk I will be a limited edition in order to not anger the old backers to much who bought the Mk I with real money while it was advertised as one of the best fighters. The release of many newer fighters saw the Hornet loose that position already, but the release of the Mk II made sure that promise was broken and will stay broken for ever. Keeping the Mk I available in the in-game store will not make the Mk I a limited edition and therefor the old backers of the Horner Mk I would have just an outdated ship, now at least they have a limited edition outdated ship.
@Derguz3 ай бұрын
@@AeroWB CIG never promised the Hornet would be the best fighter in the game. It's literally never been stated. What they have said is that the military version wouldn't be for sale unless ppl finished SQ42 or otherwise qualified through ingame events.

@@Derguz Please read, I said one of the best, not the best. When I bought the game in 2012 there was no C or A variant. It said this: "Anvil Aerospace Hornet ready to fly (High-end ship focused towards dogfighting/combat)" Now I dont know what you think when you read high-end, but to me and many other that means one of the best. And that is just no longer true. There have been many more fighters introduced over the years that were better in many ways then the Hornet but at least they also had at least one significant drawback or were nerfed later on, and this shipflation is a way to drive sales, make a new ship the best and you sell more, later on you can bring it back in line. However, with the release of the Hornet Mk II the Mk I is just never going to be high-end anymore. Its being retired long before the game is finished. And I think therefore that CIG should offer owners of the Mk I a free upgrade to the Mk II

The hornet mk1 is going to be a dev nightmare. They shoot themselves in the foot by having to maintain an asset with a diminishing player crowd. Plus it’s not exactly fair that it’s not even a beta game and it’s already retired. I just think it’s dumb to make an asset they have to manage even if no one uses it.

We'll see Mk II versions of the Mk I variants in the near future, if there will be a Mk II Tracker that means they still plan on implementing that gameplay and that gameplay will then also come to the Mk I. Your comment about the retirement of the F7C MK I made me think of something along the lines of BSGs Viper Mark II vs Viper Mark VII. The F7C MK I will remain a tribute ship that has seen it's time, however much like BSGs Viper Mark II it may retain some advantages over the newer F7C MK II. Being an older concept ship and much like older cars I would expect it to have a more robust chassis seeing that the evolution of the F7C MK II has probably made it a more agile superiority fighter due to advances in tech. This would translate into a slightly tougher ship but less manuverable. I'm also seeing much larger intakes at the front which could translate into a stronger boost acceleration and possibly an slightly bigger thruster push in the lows, think of it as having more torque. Also to give it an edge over the newer MK II and seeing the older tech involved it could also be less susceptible to distortion weapons, as with BSGs Viper Mark II when going up against the Cylons were immune to hacking. Just throwing out ideas CIG if you're reading. My two cents to give the ship purpose and recognition and not have it just sit in a hangar as a collectible.

CIG has said that somehow the Mk I will still be available so many people think it will be the Sq42 endgame reward, which makes sense. The issue is that many people bought the Mk I for real money while the ship was advertised as one of the best fighters. The release of the Mk II has made clear the Mk I will never be one of the best fighters again and instead we now have a semi outdated fighter that is semi rare. That is not what was advertised. Its better then just having an outdated fighter but its still a crap move on their part. Now, maybe the Mk I will become valuable and it might be interesting to sell it, but I doubt that will happen.

I think the Assault will have opening doors: - CIG Marketting has often proven that it doesnt talk with the Devs (best recent example is with the NUrsa commercial and "Death of a Spaceman") - CIG Marketting needed to sell both versions equally. job good - This is done with cars as well; the base models will advertise simple things like "has A/C", but it doesnt mean that the other models dont. Unless specifically stated that it doesnt open, it would make the Assault a bad purchase without it.

I think the cargo loading part kind of depends on how well CIG is able to manage the balancing of the auto-loading feature and general trade economy. Because if it is effectivly easier and not to expensive to just auto-load any ship, then the manual part is kind of pointless and just a chore. Hopefully they'll be able to find the sweetspot where its actually better if player crews load their (bigger) ships themselves and solo players are encouraged and rewarded for sticking to smaller/medium sized freighters (the van fantasy)!
@Pyrilium10433 ай бұрын
If you are cynical, the reason for the Hornet removal is that they are forcing more pledges. First, they raised the prices and then they cancel it. The Hornets are a large group of mid-range links in CCU chains. Backers will now either have to melt them locking in cash and killing discounts or they will have to pay new money to secure the link for incomplete chains since none of the Hornets are on sale and they didn't offer any CCUs to the Mk II.

So 'Slaver Trading' is a possibility. The Ironclad is an ideal ship for Pirate Orgs, Pirate groups as a mobile Repository for all their stolen goods. For legitimate Traders/Haulers it's a big ask, as you only truly get the best out of it fully crewed up. Also with Engineering, wear and tear, Resource Management and consumables etc, there is going to be a lot of stuff happening to keep track of on big ships like this.

Since about 3.16 I've found it takes about 15 minutes to get into the PU from the launcher. Then about another 15 minutes until I get playable frame rate. As part of Invictus I decided to run some tests with task manager's performance view up. Even though I have a fairly old GPU, I don't think I've ever seen it go over 80%. When I am getting decent framerate, all CPU threads are almost at full utilization now. It used to be 1st thread 100%, 2nd thread 50%, 3rd thread 8%, 4th thread 2%, then threads 5-8 would be 0%. When I'm getting bad framerate my GPU and CPU utilization is almost nothing. Then I noticed my 16gb of RAM was at 15.9gb usage and my swap file drive was 100%. Ya, this game basically isn't playable with only 16gb of RAM now. If I shut off everything I can in the background, then I get a bit of room, but at first my swap drive still thrashes. I've ordered another 16gb, so hopefully that will really help. I was thinking my old computer might not be cut out for playing the game, but it looks like if I get the extra RAM, it will be playable. I can't afford a new system now, and even if I could, it looks like everything out right now doesn't have good long term viability. Especially AMD graphics cards. Rumor are their next gen cards won't be much better than this gen. Intel is still on Alchemy and hopefully Battlemage will make them more of a competitor. I will never buy Nvidia again! AMD CPUs are also in my bad books, but I will give them a shot again, if they can ever get their act together. Though considering they've been promising they will for 27 years and haven't yet... I did make the mistake of of getting an Athlon system a while ago,, and it overheated frying the motherboard and CPU. Now everyone says how fast the Ryzen chips are, but then tries to make excuses for them crashing so often, and sometimes they can be perfectly stable if you underclock them and win the silicon lottery. Sorry, stability is top priority for me, and Intel has that down... mostly. I am not going to excuse the 13 and 14 gen i9 debacle! Though when seeing what I would buy, the i9 has never made the price to performance sense, so it was never going into a possible new computer for me anyways. Please don't laugh, currently a Core i7-4470k, 16gb DDR3 1888, Radeon 480, SATA SSD.

Having the MKI being "out of production" in-game might help giving a lived in world feel. And those who wants one, but either can't afford to shell out enough to get one now or joined to late will potentially be able to hunt one down later in the game. As someone that have a Super-hornet MKI as a pledge ship, I also think that the MKI series should be slightly worse than the MKII somehow, as it wouldn't make sense to have it replaced from an in-game point of view if the newer one isn't better or cheaper.

If it is non-optional, it might have people choosing loops that aviod that - like not doing cargo and avoid buying large ships. :-/

@AeroWB3 ай бұрын
I think its fairly simple why CIG is stopping sales of the Mark I. The Mark II is a significantly better ship. Which is not strange as its a newer version and its also priced higher. However CIG has sold many many Mark I versions to their backers and they were told that it was going to be one of the best fighters in the game. But that is not longer the case. We have already seen many competitors in that area like the Scorpius, Vanguard, Buccaneer, F8, Sabre. But at least all of those were enough different and none of them was just better in every way, though some almost were. But with the release of the Mk II its as clear as can be and there is no hiding it. The Mark I is outdated and is never going to be top dog. So basically they screw*d the original backers of their first hours who paid with real money for a ship that was advertised as one of the best fighters. They could have given all Mk I owners the option to trade in their Mk I for a Mk II free of charge. But they wanted to sell Mk II's and get more money out of everyone, so free upgrade is not a thing. Thus an upgrade mission from MkII F7C to A was introduced and the retirement from real money and in-game store of the Mk I was cooked up, so the original owners would have to be content with owning a limited edition vintage unit instead or be distracted with their "partially free" MkII F7A.

I see a lot of potential issues with the loading and unloading of cargo especially in neutral zones where all that extra time can be a big risk. Plus you would be out in the open longer, ship open longer, etc, etc. Would be much better if we just hired an NPC and watched them load it up, idk.

Its not like there is an indisputable rule that new ships have to get nerfed after release. They just get adjustet according to first player reaction and ingame performance. And in case of the Firebird it seems that the first conclusion was that it was too weak so it gets buffed. And sometimes an old ship gets even totally replaced by a full rework. Been like that with the Mustang, Avenger and Cutlass as well. Just without as much of a fuzz btw: agreeing with Zinya, the Ironclad Assault should keep the opening roof. Its the ships main selling point after all

So I understand the immersion of having discontinued ships in the verse, but someone mentioned that it's potentially a dev nightmare and I could definitely see that. I guess my question is if there is a "modular workflow/standardization" for how ships are built now or planned in the future? That way you can update like a global setting to say...armor rather than individual ships; everything scales accordingly to keep balance. For example, if there are improvements made for future ships it should be done in a way that's a marginal improvement to the original rather than a HUGE jump that results in a constant game of micro balancing the old vs new. Like I love the concept of "discontinuing" older vehicles because it adds to the overall SC lore when it comes to in-game ship manufacturers and branding, but just wonder how well this can be executed.

Problem with the Hornet is, if you've already spent $1k on the MKI series you now have to spend $500 more to upgrade them to the current ship. CIG is so full of marketing BS at this point. It's a total FU to any old backers who own the ships

What I am slightly worry about is how the Hornet Mk1 could become yet another token kind of asset like the Sabre Raven. Or it could be an exciting thing. A collectors item in the long run. No more spare parts, so less of them flying around each year, until it becomes a hot ingame item that could get stolen on demand for rich players.

I grabbed the firebird and have had a blast in it so far! If they keep making fun ships or niche that work the sky is the limit for “funding”!

I enjoyed fleet week and just my limited play time, but the free fly didn't hurt my game performance. I did pick up a Firebird, a Pulse, a Nursua, and ccued my MSR to a Constellation Aquila. (maybe the scanner station will allow for some data running whenever that comes in the game).

I'm glad to see that the Firebird got a buff, because the fury MX kind of annoys me with how many missiles that carries.

For those who purchased multiple ships with an included hangar, has there been any discussion about how the new player hangar will incorporate the hangar/ship purchased? Long ago, players were able to display their ships all at once in one location. I hope something like this will come back again.

Disappointed that "Unique Item Recovery" still won't be in. But part of me wants to get a way to go over to SPK legitimately... and loot it for furniture.

The interaction wheel needs to be reduced in size by 50 to 70 % it’s too large and can have obscured options in certain situations.

Yeah. CIG normally nerfs the ship after the initial sale. Tells you how "good" the firebird must have been to need a buff due to low sales.

I miss the old 300 series, I melted my 350 when they updated the design. I wish those had gotten the Hornet treatment as well.

I could see the assault replacing the internal turret with a utility mount/ tractor beam. Something to aid vehicle repair.

I do wonder why they wouldn't just update the existing Hornet. Not like they haven't done that with ships before.

MKII - MKI = Cheap marketing. It is CIG's way to keep getting more money for basically the same ships with little effort. You kidding me? Clearly they are now getting so desperate which ultimately worries me about the future of my investment in this game. I'm always in accord with Zinn but this time she is wrong. The game is still in development!! how can they retire something that never made it to the final game? I would understand later, maybe years later after the game has been finalized that they introduce the MKII. But NOT before. What does that say of all my ships?? Carrack MKII coming also? 890J MKII?? WTF.... So does that mean that little by little they will retire all our ships and "psychologically" push us to want to continue to buy our whole fleet once again because our OLD fleet is not on par with all the MKII's that will be available when the game finally goes gold?? If this will be a new trend CIG is doing I am stopping purchasing ships. I'm currently a Space Marshal and literally regretting it.
@Alex7ati3 ай бұрын
Your rant makes zero sense. The ship isn't going away, just won't be sold in stores. If you have the ship already this doesn't affect you, if don't have the mk1 by now you were never planning on getting one. The mk2 isn't new, either it's been on display at ILW for years now, like the F8 it just wasn't for sale, even though people begged for it. Personally I think the mk2 is a much better design, glad they made it available. I don't see what you are worried about this isn't real life. Your ships won't lose function and capabilities overtime, even if they put out a new model.
@RichardNievesNY3 ай бұрын
@@Alex7ati You're not getting his point. What he is saying that MKIIs are CIGs way to get double for the same ship with minimum effort. Other ships are in consideration to have MKII. Those like him (space marshals) have invested above $5K in this game. The least a person wants who has invested so much is that CIG introduces an improved version of what he has already purchased when the game is not even yet released. Hope that helps
@Alex7ati3 ай бұрын
@@RichardNievesNY it still doesn't matter because there were already a number of ships better than the mk1, there is also nothing stopping him from melting or upgrading at little or no cost. The mk1 is still going to get its gold standard pass. Also he is not the only one that has invested a good amount of money into SC. He looses nothing by them selling the mk2.

Apply this same argument to cars and dealerships and you realize how foolish your argument is. Just because a new model comes out doesnt mean your current one is useless. Stop treating a video game as your second life fantasy. You already spent more than $5k on this game and you still arent satisfied? The point is not to get every ship, you have an issue. Im not gonna stop you though cause your irresponsible spending is funding the game sensible people who are waiting for development and not spending thousands on digital ships you can play the game for😊 Soon you will learn that spending your minimum wage on a digital world still wont make you cool

My issue is the manual load cargo works in your hangar but not in the wild. If I go to an outpost and buy a full C2 worth of cargo and have to load it myself what is stopping someone else from stealing my cargo? The only way it works is if all the current pois swap over to the new outposts they added in with the 3.23 patches as only those have enclosed hangars. As to events I hate how they broke call to arms without adding in a way to work CDF rep with it gone.

I love how they manage resources for new hangars and yet players keep dying drinking in their game idk whats better...releasing new buggy stuff or fixing existing ones.

whats better is have a solid game that works,kinda like how polished elite dangerous is. But these dudes make money from ship sales so they cant stop making new ships because it brings them money to continue functioning, star citizen is cool ,its got many features but it runs like shit, its buggy and bringing stupid shit like food /water / permadeath/ ships you can only crew with a player group is just gonna push away buyers and push away old backers

I really like the Hornet MK1 manufacturing being stopped in the verse this means if you want one your going to have to get one via other means repair one found in a scrap yard? Buy one from a fringe system ship dealer or earn one via a quest (Just letting you buy one from getting a certain reputation level with UEE doesn't appeal to me).

I wonder how cargo will work when we need to put into ships ourselves when it comes to griefing. Also the Mk1 being retired is weird especially since neither SC nor SQ42 are out and once the ships are off shops I doubt CIG will keep them up to current standards.

Removing the Hornet mk1s is wild. I don't know why they would do that. It doesn't bode well if development will last long enough for most ships to be retired for a new model year.

I still feel weird about Star Citizen treating their alpha as canon story wise. Like the retiring of the MK1 Hornet. Or starting to date ships so that anything that's a new concept is "New" production year wise.

I bet we will see a price hike on the Mk1's, a small buff, and then a "Last chance" sale at some point around July/August.
