I was 45 years old when they announced this game. I'm 57 now. I couldn't get this game to run on my new computer in 2018 (Had a GTX 1080ti with 11 gigs of vram, an SSD, and an i7 processor). I was told I needed to upgrade my computer. I wish I could get my $40 back. I feel foolish for giving it to them.

It looks good in the first place, the storys from the incompetent scammers hears good in the first place but if you are in for a few years and have a brain its over. Had invest around 1200€, had played for years but after the scam was to much i sold my account for 900€. And what a suprise, the game is still broken, boring and useless like 3 years before. Its got here and there new nice looking 'bling bling' but the fired missiles still flying backwards or despawn, enemy ships still lag, i still cant hit a ship with my gattlings above 1500m, the npc's still kill people from inside the walls, the trading is still broken and the dev's still lie with every second sentence.

Are you able to run it at all? Expect the game to run very slow when in cities, but anywhere else you should run it just fine. You shouldnt have to upgrade.

Regarding PES (and yes, I am that guy): It actually was/is necessary for the salvage loop. Without it, ships would just eventually despawn and you would never be able to make a career out of salvaging. They needed PES both so salvage had a purpose (and now towing) and for the cargo refactor because all cargo is now physicalised. Only other game that offers that is Space Engineers. PES is also necessary for the new freight elevators and trading overhaul, so now you will have to manually load up and unload your cargo at distribution centres. This also makes for a cool loop for scavengers and pirates, as you can loot downed ships and sell any goods onboard at no-questions-asked terminals. It has actually created a ton of meta gameplay and new career loops that weren't possible before.

@@TheYamiks This is true. It's more foundational than functional at the moment (though for salvagers it's still very functional and provides a pretty cool loop at the moment). But it also was the first major step for basebuilding, as player bases will need to persist even after servers crap the bed, and we all know servers will crap the bed. Player interiors, vehicles, farming, crafting, etc., all need PES for the basebuilding loop. Right now a lot of people see it as the "trash patch", but once you stake your land claim and start putting your house/merchant stall/etc., down, most people would be quite miffed if that stuff disappeared in between patches.

@@Billy-bc8pk Not just basebuilding. The Personal Hangar comes in the next patch, whatever player stores there must be PES. Whatever we drop on the ground of the Hangar or out ship must stay there. As well as if we park a ship in the exterior of a Spacestation like a Hull C, connected with the airlock, it must be PES.

Funnily enough, all that you've said is just a side effect of PES, not its main purpose. The point of PES is to separate entity management from simulation by taking it away from the dedicated game servers (DGS) and storing them for use by the separate replication layer. So now if a server dies the replication layer can spool up another server and give it the entities that its responsible for to continue the simulation where the other one left off. But even THAT is just a side effect. The REAL end game is , if all entities are stored separately , and the replication layer can give a new server all the things it should be responsible for then that means it can give a new server a smaller subset of items to simulate, for example , just the stuff in the Crusader area instead of the entire Stanton system. That's the basis of Static Server Meshing. Spreading the load across multiple servers instead of just one so that each individual server can maintain high performance at 30 server fps. It's the low server fps that causes the dumb AI etc and why they haven't "fixed" them yet. Additionally, instead of designating these areas statically, eg per planet, they're adding the intelligence for the game to look and see where the heaviest loads are, define a zone around that and give it its own server dynamically. So if 2 orgs decide to have a 50 v 50 space battle at OM-1 Yela , the replication layer can define that area as its own zone and spool up a server to manage the space battle , taking the load off the Crusader server. With that they can now produce any content they want and the game will dynamically scale to support it as necessary. That's the holy grail. Also because these zones can pop up anywhere , thats why it's so important to do it seamlessly and w/o loading screens as you saw in the CitCon demo. So u can fly by OM-1 and see the battle going on , even get hit hit by a stray bullet even though its being simulated by a completely different server.

Yeah don't touch it, it's sort of fun but WAY too clunky. No azimuth to compare hull and turret orientation, every tiny rock throws off your aim, radar allows you to spot opponents without trying. It has quite a way to go

And this happens in significant situations where your head moves very fast from one side to the other. In any case, it is something unnecessary in games. I always turn it off if they have it and the game feels so much better.

As an Asian who grew up in Asia, and has lived in Europe, Canada, and America, American's put less cheese on anything than almost any other country I've been too xd. This is including Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Greece, Mexico, and the Philippines. (I've been to many more countries. This is just the cheesier countries). I mean, I haven't been, but South American food uses way more cheese as well. Chris Roberts just doesn't understand feature creep, and they have no incentive to release the game with how people keep dumping money into it that I'm comfortable calling it gaming's largest grift.

This is currently the most accurate take on star citizen, the actual state of the game and the actual "game" if you can call it that, anyone has ever done in a long time. Well said Y. I really hope they pull it of, and I hope they can mold this sandbox into an actual game feeling, with progress, stuff to do, stuff to fight for, rare loot, ship battles that makes sense. Servers with 500+ on em for a living univers and a lot lot more. Again, well said, 2024, there's still No game, not even CLOSE, i log in, every patch, following it, as it looks now we are probably still 5+ years away for it to feel like an actual finished game. Or. Being near finished in beta. But atleast 5 years thats for sure.

The reason they need new features is not just the store, it's also because then they won't have to say "this is it, 1.0 released" because the second they do people will be forced to drop their hopes and dreams and accept reality. And then the law suits start.

You're partially right. They can obfuscate and bask in fuckery till the end of time on SC. SQ42 is the one part of development they can get sued into oblivion if Roberts screws up and doesn't roll out the door. Even then he'll be safe so long as he hits the original commitment points. SC has no such promises so suits around that title will be significantly harder to pull off.

@@alexn8219 1.0 in SC would mean the game core is functional, the economy is dynamic, the I.A simulates NPC way of life, the law and order is working and the missions spawn dynamically based on all that before. But , released as synonimous of finished, nah. Because is a MMO, the word finished is not possible. EVE is gold but not finished. In SC they should have the basic game and they could add more stuff with time.

You'd have to use the internet archives to find the original Kickstarter commitments. I don't have them off the top of my head anymore. It's been well over a decade ago. The point is that SQ42 did have commitments he needs to legally hit and requires a release. If he doesn't release he's screwed. There is a point arguable and vague as it may be when he will be legally liable for dragging his feet. It's kind of a three way tug of war on where that point actually is. His perspective, the investors, and the courts. He'd have long since thrown SQ42 out the door an finished to be rid of that liability if he could. That he hasn't is telling. They've gone nearly all hands on deck to beat SQ42 into submission to avoid being sued into oblivion. That liability grows in size the more money he takes in for the project. As stated before, end of the day he can screw people around with SC forever until people get sick of it an bail or he releases something good enough to appease them. SQ42 however he's locked in and stuck. So either he successfully makes this new fangled server tech appear (which he needs to make SQ42 function as advertised) or he's fried.

With squadron 42 being feature complete and most of the developers coming over and porting finished tech from sq 42 to the PU. I think this is a great time to get in to the game as 2024 will be the year that it hopefully comes together. One thing to remember is that they still use amazon severs which even cig admits are not ideal. I personally believe that they let the players set the pace of what they have to do to keep interest and people playing. As long as they keep getting funding they can continue to fine tune the game so when it is released it will be the everything game we all hope it will be!

After CIG delivers on SQ42 (which they still haven't announced a release date for, so don't hold your breath on that one. It was, according to Chris, almost complete in 2014, and 2015, and 2016, etc) they can't move all the devs over, because they still owe original backers parts 2 and 3. SQ42 is just part 1.

I play it regularly (like 2 to 3 days a week for 2 to 6 hours) with a buddy. We're basically exploring all the game mechanics together, which is quite fun. As long as you are chill enough and not frustrated after spending 3 hours just figuring out how to work a reclaimer and make the first profit off of it, you'll get your money's worth, if you didn't pay more than 60$ or so. Crashes are almost as few as in some AAA "finished" games and bugs usually have a workaround, which also isn't usual in other games with bugs. After all, I feel good about having supported a project a little bit, that actually tries something new, and has proven to be able to deliver, instead of banking on iterations of an old game that barely changes over time like Fifa-stuff or Assassins Creed or some such.

That would require the game design team to actually think about that, and that's pretty doubtful. It's probably doable, it's something I've seen in sea of thieves, but like I said it rewrites a game designer who actually thinks about gameplay and not just their shitty movie pitch that they want to turn into a game (but ESPECIALLY considering Chris's history including his shitty IMDB page this is VERY on the nose)

At the start of this year, I was so bored that I thought "Well, let me download this 3.22 and give Star Citizen another try". Played for a day. Logged the next day. And the next, and the next. Been playing every day for exactly 2 months now (started jan 3rd). The game is still in a rough state, but a playable and enjoyable rough state. There's a very active community playing the game and after a while you start to recognize the same names, you join parties, you do things together, have some laughs, so on. It's a good time. The next version 3.23, like you mentioned, will bring a lot of improvements ported from SQ42 to the Persistent Universe, but most of the game's issues are still going to persist and will only be partially fixed with 4.0 with the Server/Data Meshing technology getting online. And about the price of the ships, all you need to enjoy Star Citizen is a Mustang Alpha game package. All the other ship you can buy with in game money. They persist during patches, unless they do a Full Wipe, which it is expected for 4.0 and maybe 3.23, because they are reworking the entire game economy.

At the moment we'll see only some of the quality of life improvements from Sq42 and some ships. The single player game happens in a Star System that's not yet in Star Citizen, and that will be feature complete from a single player point of view. But they need to connect a couple of systems before that can be seen in Star Citizen.

A very reasonable update on a very long running project. I am a backer. I've enjoyed the experiences I've had in Star Citizen as it is very VERY much an online shared experience which may put more people off, however I've had a blast - not tried the new combat/flight mechanic system yet but I have faith common sense will prevail and tweaking, tinkering will occur more often than usual. The star map is the worst thing in the entire game apart from disconnects which are in my experience (although not hundreds of hours they do usually occur in what passes for peak time in a very niche game), quite rare these days when compared to three or so years ago. Even a list would have been kinder to provide to the players, I can't imagine the numbers of people who were put off giving any money from their experience in the free fly event but hopefully they found someone helpful to lend a hand in game. I haven't purchased the single player thing yet I mean who would give their money five years before any sign of content? I am looking forward to that more than the online game simply because I'm not always in the mood to be social.

No. Long answer (just dipping my toes in again during the free play): nope. Doing the tutorial, and it guides me to a map. Have they never seen a public map, or forgotten what it looks like? "You are here."? Nope. I really prefer games that do not give me a quest marker on my HUD and/or compass… but those are rare these days because Markers are easier than guiding players through in-world signs and hints.

PLEASE PLEASE CIG fix the glitches my lord let us pray that pyros release granted 3.22 has been good but 3.23 will really really help especially with the personal hangar hopefully they add the item spawner or recaller. I think you should be able to rebuy at the very least or put insurance on items you have found in game like the heavy armor sets on bunkers the works I don't mind grinding but I want to keep what I grind or at least let me insure what I grind..... Yamiks I know you are harsh on games when needed BUT this is necessary! someone sends this video to the DEVS and they listen to youtube creators to make the game better and fix the issues! so your videos are appreciated!

After playing Space Engineers, Elite: Dangerous, Objects in Space, and Tin Can I have no interest in playing Star Citizen. Honestly, I love the idea of Guns of Icarus the space trade game. But at this point not only am I tired of dog fighting in space, but I'm sick of trying to emulate Star Trek. One system that is divided by the Lawful Government and the Chaotic Pirate Alliance with Neutral Morphia Families in the center while you try to survive in your space submarine. That pitch alone beats anything that SC could ever bring to finish in my humble opinion.

Also there is a possibility that by completing the solo game you can get updated more powerful versions of the military ships, and that they'll do updated ships obtainable with reputation in SC, so if CIG stick to it, maybe whales will not be so far ahead, but ... just maybe. also there was only 26 devs working on ships ( more on only the ships needed in squadron 42, mostly capital ships) so even if ships it's what makes CIG money, they have very few devs on it, compared to other games where the biggest part of the team is just making new shit to farm or buy. there were like 150 to 200 people working on SC and 800 working on Squadron42, that why Star Citizen multiplayer isn't that great it wasn't heir main focus, also problem with crytech made them focus on moving away from cryengine, and having fear it will do the same with lumberyard , they are trying to make the engine so modified that they can make it their own and avoid future problems with Amazon. If they can sell the engine one day, maybe it will be the end of ship selling, that could be cool.

I look forward to the days they can remove most of the AI bots as the player base will be high enough to step in and do similar things to add flavour. People have been wanting to clean up the station but putting things in to a bin can cause head injuries. Hey we've all been there right? The game has already a basic economy . Soon will be revised and it's intended to become dynamic. Those super expensive packages are for big wheals. Normal people buy basically the game which includes a starter ship and then play to earn other ships in-game through playing. But there's people who don't want that so they spend money. For the company is a finantial support. It's up to those people who want to cash out to drive a fancy ship intended for 80 people without having to grind. Perhaps for them those $48.000 are just peanuts, or perhaps they are dumb.

Alpha testing, according to Software Engineering (Sommerville, Pressman, Yourdon and others) is testing performed in the development environment. Since it is being tested in the production environment (client computers), it is by definition beta testing. Incomplete software may be deployed legitmally if the lifecycle allows for it, like Incremental and most Agile lifecycles, like Scrum. What Yamiks (and me) are saying is that naming this phase as alpha testing is just a way to gaslight the clients into accepting an incomplete software and be happy with it.

Hey Andrej, The game has many, many glitches but what better free unfettered movement space flight game is out there at the moment. The model seems to be working well for the CiG. Also it is ultimately up to us to Not fall for the 135 quid tank purchase, but hell mend the peeps who fall for it, or conversely hoorah to the peeps who like spending money on new in game things. The answer is yes. Star Citizen is amazing. And if it was ever going to be worth it, it's in '24. The reallocation of resources from Squadron 42 into Star Citizen has already been noticeable this year and it's only still march. 3.23 is around the corner and includes a bunch of new stuff, including master modes and distribution centers. The tests for server meshing and jump points, which are both essential for the future of Star Citizen, were successes. And for those on the fence because of how "scammy and expensive" it is; you can buy a starter pledge for less than what a PS5 game costs you these days and then never spend real money on the game ever again ever. Don't worry. That ugly ass C2 is for sale in game too.

A scam presupposes that you don't know what you're getting into and/or that you pay for something you never receive. Neither are true. CIG is, especially compared to other studios, more consistent in their communications with the player base, as well as candid about the state of the game. You can argue that paying for a pledge for a ship that isn't in the game (yet) smells funky, but at no point is said pledge either required to play the game, or advertised as something other than it isn't. Moreover, if and when you choose to buy a pledge, where that money goes is apparent, as are the results of reallocating the resources that were previously tied up in Squadron 42. The difference between 3.17 and 3.22 is night and day, and 3.23 is truly massive! I'd be remiss not to mention that Star Citizen, especially now, pushes the boundaries of what a game can do. As far as I'm concerned, getting a seamless interplanetary experience puts any copium about something like Pyro not being out in perspective when you realize that not even recent triple-A games like Stanfield come even almost close to matching it. In contrast, Frontier has had a long, long, long history of promising all sorts of things that then never happen, an abysmal relationship with the player base. In their infinite wisdom, they've even recently decided that what Elite really needs is some pay-to-win. Talk about scammy and disingenuous...

More importantly than most people hating Master Modes is the fact they're changing the flight model significantly along with it. Instead of being more realistic than mosy games, with newtonian physics in space, they're shifting to a less realistic than most system, with drag in space. You need to buy a "gamepackage" or pledge to unlock access to the server itself which comes with 1 ship, after that, all flight ready ships are purchaseable in-game with credits. So you can just buy the cheapest package, then earn credits in-game and buy ships that way, be aware that on server wipes, you will go back to that 1 ship you paid money for. There is no limit to how many ships can be purchased in-game

I "bought" Star Citizen in December 2023after upgrading my PC from a GTX 1070, i7 6700k, and 16GB of RAM to an RTX 3090 Ti, i7 12700k, and 64GB of RAM and the game still runs like crap. Constant server crashes. Additionally, all if the features and ships didn't keep me interested. I put the game down in January.

Elite doesn't have all the features that SC has but I feel like I'm part of the lore and narrative of Elite when playing. Two of my closest friends joined SC with me and they both dropped it.

May want to check Virgil Shadow moses with his input on master modes. A1 is treating it as though the game will forever and ever be stuck with whatever state master modes is in when 3.23 goes live.
