Most induction motors are controlled by the direct online starter, however, the heavy motor with the heavy load if there started using direct online starter Huge voltage surge(voltage surge can damage electronic equipment, small machines and the contractor that is supplying the same circuit)because of the high current that is drawn from the supply.
Parts that make up the starter
1) 3 Contactors (main contactor, star contactor and delta contactor)
2) Auxiliary contact(with NC) for each contactor
3) On delay timer
4) Thermo overload relay
5) Control breaker(double-pole)
6) Push-button(2)(start and stop)

When the ON push button starts the circuit by energizing the star contactor(S) and the timer(T) at the same time. The star contactor(S) get energized through NC of the timer(T) through NC of the delta contactor(D).when star contactor(S) is engaged(energized) it closes its auxiliary contact NO through which the main contactor(M) get energized.
The circuit will run for the set period of time normally (a few seconds) and timer (T) will open NC and closes NO through which delt contactor (D) get energized.
NOT because the main contactor(M) is energized through the star contactor(S), we don’t want it(main contactor) to go off when the star contactor is disconnected, that’s why we make a parallel connection between star contact (Y AUX) and main contactor (M AUX2).

Great job brother....but just a suggestion...why not use the auxiliary contact (NO) of the delta contactor to keep the main contactor energised when the star connection time elapses..... because using the auxiliary contact of the main contactor mean when the start push button is pressed the main contact also start immediately....

Good explanation but you said in this circuit star contactor should energize first before main contactor. Qn why star first while the motor will not start if both main and star are not energized.

He just explain the logic here. If you see it properly, I think you'll see, the main idea here is the ADDRESS. The contact that the main rely on relies on the address of the star coil, so star has to come ON first followed by the main, bear in mind that that happens in short space of time (as he mentioned, by the blink of an eye), so if the motor relies on the main, then the motor won't start if star coil is OFF or not energized. This is the result of main not being energized, hence causes the motor to remain OFF.

mr sir there is no reason to interlock the main contactor. the main and the star come in together at the same time. lets assume we are using pneumatic timer that means it should be coupled with the main contactor..maybe u can add a hold in for delta and disconnects the timer from the by adding normallt ope interlock for delta on timer circuit.

The main contactor help to hold the circuit that's why we use push button to make the circuit more safe to operate and reliable, if you remove main contactor then you have to use a switch(not push button) which will keep the timer permanently on during operation. As long as the timer is on, circuit will remain running.

Timer protection these days is recommended coz the timers in market are week ,let the timer be switched from NC delta and on the timer switch NO put a hold cct from no delta

Thanks brother for the video. It's good. Point of injection: Use the main contactor NO across the start pb switch so it serves as the master switch; It will stop entire control network if the Stop Pb switch is pressed. The main contactor should work with both the star and delta contactor. The main contactor should control the timer coil from the action of its NO Auxiliary contact. It's the timer's duty to switch between the Star and Delta contactors with its NC and NO contacts respectively with the set time.
