He did not use autofire for this record. Note the perfect control over his firing rate at different points in the video, which is not how autofire behaves in the first place. Also, the reason he's firing so fast is due to the 2 button method. There's even an interview with SGP-SV-TNK available here: /watch?v=dbq7IVvYq1s&t=291 where he shows that you can either slide your fingers vertically or tense up your arm to fire really fast. My guess is he was using the sliding technique because it's much less strenuous during longer periods. Do keep in mind that the record happened in a game center; Star Force has a huge following in Japan, and I'm sure there were many spectators for the event. There's no way any cheating was involved. It's regrettable that there wasn't a second cam to record the hand movement, but the beautiful thing about high score records like this is that they come almost exclusively out of passion for the game and not for the recognition for setting a new record, which is why I wouldn't doubt the legitimacy of the whole thing even if there were less evidence to support it.

Another autofire Starforce video. That's why he's taking it steady and not shooting everything - the cheats on MAME & custom rapid fire controllers tend to crash the game and send it back to the start. Funny how none of these jokers who make out they can fire 20 shots a second ever make a video playing on a proper coin-op machine! Come on mate, let's see YOU in action with that inhuman firepower then! Show me how you fire that fast on a keyboard or arcade controller... go on! Now, now, no need to be nasty person. MARP? Is that still going? There were lots of ways to get around Wolfmame by using a modification outside the MAME environment. People still post INPs there? - how quaint! Anyhow, looking forward to seeing how you and your team of 'super players' all fire so fast and quickly without the fast fire mods the Japanese love to use... just one video of a hand on a keyboard or coin-op playing the game, that's all mate - take it with a mobile phone... 15 seconds work to prove me wrong... come on old chap, it MUST be worth doing!

He's not tapping at a constant rate the entire time. He could easily be double tapping (alternating fingers on the same button) or the cabinet he's playing on may be setup with two fire buttons to allow for faster tapping. Most arcade cabs in good Japanese arcades have autofire circuits anyways since the idea of mashing one button for a solid 30 minutes is silly, let alone 17 hours, and autofire prevents unnecessary button wear. Modern shmups (Cave's stuff) have autofire built in anyways.

Hi Martin! I also noticed this detail. Enemies is the final cycle begins again. The final is variable. In the video of TNK not appear "Rain" to enemies. I guess if the game TNK this purpose, there would be no difference in the final result. TNK is very good!

Hi The_Pro! I think that the large enemies you are talking about (those who come from behind) are before the slow one_per_type series, for example here at 19:40. nii-san's video shows them too in the same order (v=ZaLnbHcPs9I, there at 18:48) Can you link some example with the different order? Anyway I heard many time ago some rumor about differencese in enemy order (I can't remember where), but did not find further informations about it. it is possible tha different versions exist.

Great score! I doubt I will get a response here but I thought I'd try: I have a question about the enemy order. From my own play and some other videos, after the long pattern of wavy enemies and side enemies there is suddenly almost every different type at once followed by the 3 large enemies that come from behind (sometimes 6). This set of enemies never seems to happen here? Is it because MAME is different from the arcade or is there a trick to it? It would be very helpful to skip that part.

Confirmed that the parent set and megaforce behave like nii-san's recording while the clone Star Force (encrypted, set 1) behaves like TNK's recording. Didn't check encrypted set 2 or the bootleg since I had no inp that reaches that point. Anyway, that explains it.
