The gal that has Color My World channel (Lori?) loves these pencils and says the same thing about them feeling and performing just like Polychromos. The manufacturer in China is named Andy, she is collaborating with him in putting together a new set of pencils where he sent her all the pencil cores he makes, and she is testing them and choosing the colors and naming them with the help of the people on her channel. Just like you she was blown away at how good they are and for the price anyone can afford them. I was so glad to hear that you really like them too. I'm still new enough to colored pencils that I'm finding using oil based pencils harder to work with than Prismacolor's but I'm starting to get the hang of it! :)

In my experience, oil based pencils work a 100 times better on paper with some tooth to it. If you color the pictures right from the coloring book, the kind with the thin, cheap paper, you will have a more difficult time. I scan the pictures on my printer and print them out on good paper and than I have no problems. Paper makes such a huge difference, I know Pamela has said that as well. Hope this helps!

I too started with Prismacolors, that practically blended colors for me, and I really got into coloring and drawing because of them. Upon hearing the about Polychromos I bought a small set and hated them, and put them away for months. Eventually I kept trying, and figured it out, I found Pablos which are a good in between medium for me.

I also watch Lori & decided to try the Deli pencils on her recommendation & I love them so far. The Deli are very close to Polychromos as well, but there are only 72 in the set.

It is so interesting how we all have different preferences and different pencils that suit our style. I am the opposite. I get beautiful results with Polychromos and have no joy with Prismacolors. Prismas smear for me...I find fine details and blending nearly impossible, but with Polychromos I get beautiful rich blends and crisp details every time. 🥰

I really like the Star Joys! There have been so many really nice budget sets lately - Star Joy, Square Brutfuner, Fuxi/Obos, Nyoni, etc. It's kind of overwhelming, haha. I love trying them all!

I LOVE the Nyoni and the Star Joys...they are my "go to" pencils and I have most all of the artist grade pencils too. Although, my Caran d ache Pablos are another fav of mine

I'm totally in love with these Star Joys. At their price, I don't fret about using them too much because I can afford another set if I use 'em up. They also have a gorgeous range of colors. They don't hold a point as well as Poly's but well enough compared to other budget friendly ones, imho.

I find that pencils looks very like polychromos and arteza too...but the colors are most beautiful that the arteza set! I don't find these "scratchy"... they are very good quality ! 👍

I love my Star Joy pencils! I put them in second place with Polychromos in first and third Prismacolor colored pencils. And they are a very good company and they care about their customers, which most companies don't get as involved with their customers as HG Legend does. Yes, you will need to do some swatching, but you really need to be doing that anyway,, swatching gets you familiar with your pencils. They are oil based, the company will tell you they are oil based.

Starjoy are by far my favorite pencils to work with, there is absolutely no reason to be spending hundreds of dollars for quality pencils.

True :3 still is worth the polychromos to buy them just because I want a lightfast or resistant to light that can last for decades. That is to me worth the money. If cheap or economical pencil color from China produce good quality products and comes with some interesting features such as light resistant or other things like the so called derwent “chromaflow” (expensive as hell) just because of the tech behind the pencil or equivalent. I would lovely but them. Because I care about a quality product that can deliver, last long, and affordable. As the saying goes “something so simple, it’s so complex that’s hard to comprehend” like the lady from the KZbin channel to this vid… she could even hardly look the different in the FC poly and the Star joy 🤩 differences. This is a real fact the in this world anything is possible and there is about everything that’s no surprising anymore. 😎😋 what matters is enjoy 😊 life to the max. Art is beauty everywhere! :3

Unfortunately I don't believe these are available any longer. They have been replaced with a new set called Star Joy Gold. They have used the new product to replace the old listing for these pencils. They are not the same pencils even though some of the reviews may look as though they are for this set (which they are). The newer Gold set shares the same listing that was initially used for this original set.

TY Pamela this was a great review, Perhaps I'm a we bit slanted because these are my favorite budget pencils. I haven't noticed scratchy problems, in fact so seldom has it occurred that it hardly registers. My backup set has been ordered, was waiting for this sale.

Thanks for your review. I have this set. I’ve not used the much. I thought the colors were lovely The pencil has to be sharpened in order to get the maximum color out of them. I used them on my drawing pad and they did well. I cannot afford to buy polychromes and I’m really not into oil pencils that much. I don’t have a lot of patience for them. This set will suffice. But after your experiment I’m glad I have them and I will look forward to using them more often. Thanks for your review.

Great video as always! I have this set, as well as the Deli pencils. I feel like the Deli pencils are closer to the Polychromos than the Starjoy, although they are both great sets. I really like them very much. They are oil-based, so they are different than Prismas, but I think I prefer them to Prismas for alot ot things. Prismas have their good points, but for much of what I color, I prefer SJ. I bought my first set a while ago, but bought a second for backup when they recently went on sale.

Do you think the star joy pencils & the Delis are much different? I know the core sizes are a big different but is that all? Im wondering if they are basically the same pencil in terms of how they lay down on paper and how hard they are/how well they keep a point

@@alyj6381 I think the Delis are more akin to the Polychromos. They keep their point well and are easy to blend. I haven't really dove in with the Star Joys yet, but I really liked how they swatched out. I do recall the Star Joys were more of a softer core.

I found the Deli set of 72 first and then these. These are INCREDIBLE. I'll be honest.... the new Gold version... its not good. I don't like it. The core size is different. The color range is different. Just not good. And I luckily found an old set on a re-selling site and bought them immediately but it's sad knowing that it'll be my last set. I really and truly love my original Star Joy set.

I just bought both sets because I wasn't sure if there was a difference. The barrel on the 72 Star-Joy/Deli is a little bigger. more like the polychomos. The pencils In both sets go down very smooth not noticing them being scratchy. For the price, I'm keeping both sets. Now I just have to learn how to really use oils.

Hi there, I just finished watching this video and Iam no expert with pencils but I can tell you , I love the 120 set of the new STAR JOY PENCILS, between these and the 150 set of the round BRUTFUNNER, ARE MY TWO FAVORITE PENCILS, I have a small set of prisms pencile and when sharping these they are eaten up way too fast and they break way too easy. I can't afford a larg set of polychromos pencils. I just brought the 120 STAR JOYS last week and I love them.. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!1 Chris

Thanks for the review. I enjoy your videos very much. I have to say I do not love these Star Joy pencils. I colored one whole JB Calendar page with them and they are okay, but nowhere near the quality or richness of Polychromos. I also had a few with broken cores which was annoying. I do tend to prefer a harder pencil (Derwent Procolours are some of my favorites), so their hardness was not an issue for me. I appreciate the Star Joy color range though, as I find Polychromos to be lacking in lighter colors, especially pinks and purples. Overall, I found these to be much closer in quality to regular Crayola pencils than Polychromos. I put my set on my 7-year-old’s craft table and she loves them.

While I don't think that doing 3 swatches is enough to review pencils, I'm also not surprised that you think they feel and look like Polychromos because to me Polychromos are nothing special. I don't get the Polychromos hype and I say that as someone who uses them in all of their work lmao. If I wasn't reliant on lightfastness ratings (since I display and sell my work) and the ability to replace single pencils I'd just get a set like this. Although, knowing budget pencils, I'd probably get fed up with the constant breaking and go back to Polychromos lol. You definitely pay for quality that goes beyond how they lay down when buying Polychromos.

Oh dear, I didn't make it past opening the tin, they smelled so bad!!! Did I get a defective set, a knock-off? The smell makes = instant headache, and I've never had that happen before. I haven't sent them back, but maybe I should? Please advise. Thank you.

I don't find them scratchy at all. The only issue I've had this far is with one pencil only, Leaf Green Medium, in my Dahl 133 the sharpener doesn't stop it keeps grinding away. I have to physically stop turning the sharpner. I don't know if it's the wood on this participate pencil or not; but, that's the only issue I've found with them so far.

Your videos are so inspiring! I was wondering if you would share which type of scanner/printer you use to transfer images onto heavier paper. I need a new printer and I want one that will handle transferring over good pages for coloring. I'm wondering if Laserjet or Inkjet is better for this purpose and brand really isn't that important. My problem with these pencils is that I find the names really hard to see. No other set with silver writing gives me as much trouble as the writing on these.
