I absolutely LOVE these pencils. I thought they were softer than a lot of other oil- based pencils. Lori has said several times that if you have issues with the pencils to contact her. I didn’t have a problem with the paint. 🤷‍♀️ I’m leaving mine in the order that they came in, they’re ordered according to the “blending system” that Lori came up with. In the book that comes with the pencils it tells you all of the different groups the pencils are in.

The way the pencil numbers go right to left instead of left to right means it's one of the first 100 sets. If you watch Lori's video she shows them being made. They aren't wrong, they're limited edition 🤭

Once yo learn to layer colored pencils you can color anything and layering gives brilliance to your colors. I worked on a drawing learning to color bricks. It took me about 3 hours to do it and I used about 10 pencils and it's beautiful. But I used layering and blending to show the texture of the bricks.

I like the idea of those pencils are like targeted for doing in layers. I'm a big fan of doing colorings in layers. I dont know why but there's something about layering while colorings just make me calm at all time and much more focused! Lol

Diva: You mentioned there were not enough red and brown. Remember that when you blend two or three of them together, they form a new color. The entire reason Lori has such a vast array of colors is because you can blend them to get new and innovative "reds" or "browns". She left off the ordinary colors you can get in any set in order to have all the colors she has. Hope this helps.

Lori did such an Amazing job from start to finish 👏 🙌 to make these pencils and now she's showing us how to do so much more with them. And on top of it all while she was doing all this her husband was in ICU in critical condition. She's one Amazing talented lady that's for sure. She sure put herself into these pencils from a piece of wood to choosing the right colors for this first set then they are creating more sets at a later time that will help even more to have the perfect sets for coloring.

I saw these on Amazon and they have several unfavorable reviews. So I came here to see them in action. A common complaint is the paint smearing off instantly. People say the black comes off on their hands. There are the typical too many warm greys not enough of this or that blah blah blah. I think the paint coming off so easily and the smearing are enough to scare me off. Thanks for your honest review.

Let me only echo the positive, informed comments about this set! I have been rocking with #LORIGREEN and #COLORMYWORLD from the ground floor of her channel. She literally brought me from a world devoid of color ~~into one where I see color everywhere! The set has Lori written all over it all the way down to the set of greens, where you find Lori Green! How cute - what a nice touch. You might even find me in the set when you use Coffee Cream. Just saying! This set justly deserves 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The SJ Gold's are a great concept but I think they rushed them thru too quickly. Maybe the paint did not dry well enough before they were boxed. The greens are fabulous.

I had some issues with my set also in regards to the paint and some of the pencils were chipped off of the barrel. I was a bit disappointed with the paint on the pencils and the black coming off on my hands and the pencil. They should have put a protective spray over them to avoid them. I love the colors and how well they match the lead color. I did not have any breakage at all when coloring with a sharp sharp point! I ordered another set for my daughter and will see if this set is the same as far as the paint and chipped pencils.

I bought the original set. They were scratchy. It didn't matter what paper I used. I returned them. I won't buy them again

These are my first set of oil pencils. I have a few Polychromos and hate them because they're too, too hard for me. I like wax pencils the best. But I do find that there are times when I need a harder pencil that's still soft at the same time, if that makes any sense? From hearing how they were created and how they looked when Lori started using them I gave them a try. Glad I did! Yeah, they are oil pencils and I am now learning how to use them, but I find that they have just enough 'smudge' to them that it's satisfying to me. I guess I'm learning how to do the layering better while also having that very slight mixing effect as well. To me, these are so much softer than Polys. I really like how they feel, though like you, I need to practice with them. Nice, nice pencils, though, with a spectacular color range. I agree, about the browns, too. Another one or two darker shades would be nice.

I left mine in the order they were arranged in the box. Numbered 1-120, there was a reason for this method of numbering. Lori's video if Oct 10, 2021 gives a lot of detailed information as to how this set was curated.

Hi! I'm the Melody that the blue is named after! Nice review. These are oil based and they are harder, and they don't blend like Prismacolor or Black Widow pencils which are wax based. Oil pencils will not blend, they layer, a lot of people think they're going to blend like wax and get upset. Learn how to use these, remember, layer, don't blend like a wax pencil.

Beautiful colors! I would love to see a coloring comparison with other mid-range oil based pencils. I prefer pencils with a creamy lay down and are easy to layer and blend. 💛

I think the reason these are layering pencils is because they are oil based like Polychromos rather than wax pencils like prismacolors.

Four of my new Star joy Gold pencil have the writing either partially or completely worn off. On others, the paint is coming off on my hand. I’ll have to paper and tape over. Not cool. I could use more browns also, especially a good chocolate and some browns that are less red toned.

Light pressure until I blended all the colors together at the end. Then I used medium pressure. They take a little work but it’s well worth it. 💛 What I’m happy about they did not cramp my hands. I didn’t have to dig in the paper to get my pigment saturation. A few layers and you get what you are looking for. I like that because I can get the exact color I’m trying to achieve
