The "Honorverse" is a novel series by David Weber (American, living in SC) - apparently he wanted to write a Horatio Hornblower series IN SPAAAAAAAACE!
@pemarinchhen6 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if you could put in the description as to what you are talking about or from which universe/lore/tv etc? Usually you have the source in the video title but this i was just googling star kingdom of manticore and then realised this was from a book series called honorverse. Anyway I hope it doesn't come across a bit condescending/nit picky.

Let me introduce myself. My Name is John O'Donnell, and I "work" for BuNine, a group of Honorverse fans who work directly with David Weber to expand on the Honorverse beyond the scope of the novels. We are semi-official, in that we come up with stuff and David then approves or disapproves it. We are the ones who wrote the technical, political, and military organization section of House of Steel: The Honorverse Companion. My job with BuNine is to create 3D models of the ships, based on David's descriptions both in the books and in person. These models are as close to book canon as is possible, based on David's descriptions. OTOH, they're not quite finished. I've been with BuNine for over 10 years, and in that time, the models have gone through many revisions, updates, and other changes. Where they are at for the moment is that the general layout and design is locked, but we are currently working on adding more fine detail. The only ships I have modeled are those that have line art in House of Steel up to the Agamemnon. Things are on hold right now due to most of us in BuNine having Real Lives, as well as some recent health issues on my part. I've seen many commenters here asking about artwork, so here's a link to my Deviant Art page with my Honorverse meshes: maxxqbunine.deviantart.com/ You can also check out my YT channel for four videos I've made with my models. For other art, I recommend thomasthecat on Deviant Art: thomasthecat.deviantart.com/ He's another BuNine member who did the line art and color plates for House of Steel. His day job is doing art and models for Star Trek Online. Another Deviant art recommendation is Genkkis, who does the cover art for the French editions of the books: genkkis.deviantart.com/ Anyway, just thought I'd post a comment pointing out some decent Honorverse artwork.

I mark out immediately when seeing Honor Harrington content, and especially from you, I was delighted to see this. HH basically introduced me to the idea of taking a sci-fi war in space seriously, and treating it as basically a historical event. Like, the feeling you get when reading is that you're seeing 'future history'.

Why, Templin Institute, I had hoped of course, but I had never thought you would do it. You just made my week.Also for all the fans of the Honorverse in the comments, please don't ask for a movie, that could not possible be detailed or nuanced enough (unless of course you have an movie of at least 4 hours). If you have to ask for something, ask for a Netflix series. Then it would have enough time to explore the history, depth and motivations of the Honorverse adequately.Also, the next book in the series:'"Uncompromising Honor" is set for release in early october. And rumors suggest that it may be the final one in the series. (I have pretty mixed feelings about that one, but am looking forward to reading every word of it)

So, I got the link to this from my boyfriend and had to squeal for five minutes first. I looove the Honor Harrington series and have been throwing it at pretty much everyone I know. Some thoughts; SPOILERS AHEAD but you should go read the books because they're good. When does history become series present? I assume from the description of Queen Elizabeth as ''recently anointed' (or was it crowned, I may have been too excited to remember...) that it's early, maybe even, like, dropping you in just before the first book? Which also explains why (SPOILER) the Lynx terminus wasn't mentioned, as it's a pretty big plot point/spinoff. So, I'd love (looooove) to have another video/log of the 'Star *Empire* of Manticore' and the (SPOILER) war with Haven, Oyster Bay, and the Grand Alliance. The latter point will have to wait for David Weber to write it, but that's a minor detail for a fangirl! I'd also like to see other Honorverse governments in audiologs at some point in the (probably far distant- that's ok, I'll wait!) future. The Republic of Haven would be good, the Andermani Empire would be a laugh and the Protectorate of Grayson (Maybe I'm the only one who wants that... I know that Religion and Sci-Fi Do Not Mix, but honestly... please!). Just offering more candidates for the polls! Just a minor quibble, and a poorly articulated one at best... but I didn't think treecats were declared fully sentient until (SPOILER) Nimitz and Samantha learned sign language. Before that, it was more like the Sphinxian government treated the 'cats as 'minor children' (distinct from the Manticoran government's treatment of the Basilisk natives as 'minor children; to be given control of their world as soon as feasible'). And of course, the permission for Naval personnel to stay with their companions aboard ship.

@Bird_Dog006 жыл бұрын
Bethany Humphrey The first few books are great. An I have for a time considred myself a fan of the series. But with the more recent books, I have lost most of my intrest. While I was able to - mostly - tollerate the marry-sue status of the Star Kingdom of Manticore, Webers shift from interesting "in the trenches" stories to the big picture and thus the tendency of more and more of the - fingerquotes - "action" now taking place in fucking confrence rooms and back offices as thrown me off.
@bethanyhumphrey46136 жыл бұрын
yeah, the shift from military scifi to political thriller is a bit jarring. I also have issues with the time skip that glazes over immediately post-Cromarty assassination and the rise of High Ridge. But if you can get into the Shadow of Saganami and Crown of Slaves subseries' you get the naval action back. And it's realistic; admirals who win battles get kicked upstairs.
@Bird_Dog006 жыл бұрын
It's not even the naval battles I miss that much, it's just general people DOING something instead of just talking.There is a part in one of the last main books, where the plot jumps more than half a dozen times between people sitting in confrence rooms and talking without somuch as some bloke fixing the bloody coffee maker inbetween. There is other stuff that started to go on my nerves as well.

Need more from this incredibly under rated series and universe. To date I have found nothing in science fiction as pleasurable to read or as believable in its science and realistically possibility of being attainable. Unlike universes like Star Wars which relies on a belief in a type of magic in the force, or Star Trek which requires suspension of belief in all known rules of physics.
@ALwinDigital4 жыл бұрын
With the Honorverse, David Weber and fellow co-authors of the various side stories made it a policy to keep the "science" in the novels as consistent as possible. That's why it's so enjoyable to read. Actually, Star Trek sort of had the same idea when Gene Roddenberry was in charge of/monitoring the production of the show. Star Wars, while entertaining, has inconsistent in-universe science. As do many other science fiction universes. Science doesn't have to be realistic and follow the laws of physics in reality as we know them in science fiction, it just has to be consistent. Compare "old" Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager) with the "new" Star Trek of Abrams and the new productions, for example.
