Come to think of it, the story of the Skaven's origins reminds me a lot of one of Lovecraft's stories. The name slips my mind, but it describes a guy who kept hearing the scurrying of rats in the walls of his home until he, his best friend, and a bunch of exterminators went in to try and root them out. Somewhere in the darkness, the guy went mad; convinced he was killing rats, he apparently beat his friend to death and was discovered gleefully laughing over the friend's corpse by the exterminators.
