Counts for groups like Antifa and all of those.. They supposedly fight Fascism.. But how? By running around beating people up and terrorizing those opposing them like a Fascist.. By trying to fight a monster they are becoming the very same monster they hate the most.. And that is a trap most organisations and such fall in.. The ends usally justifies the means.. Its meritocratic aspect is very similar to the Federation of Star Trek. Except that while Federation citizens are encouraged to be their best purely for the sake of bettering the world and expanding their understanding with reward being a side effect, the citizens of the Terran Union are motivated to do it for status and privilege with bettering humanity as a side effect. Both had to deal with rebuilding from a post apocalyptic disaster. In Star Trek humanity caused its own decimation and receive aid from aliens, in Invictis the disaster came from aliens and no aid ever came. Because of this difference, while one believed in utopian compassion, the other developed a very utilitarian outlook.
@Gustav_Kuriga6 жыл бұрын
Uhm... no, the reward of status and privilege is a side effect FOR bettering humanity.
@darwinxavier35166 жыл бұрын
If bettering humanity was the primary incentive for most of the citizens, they wouldn't need a tiered citizenship reputation system that included "the type of employment a person is allowed to seek and whether limitations exist on their freedom of movement, all the way down to the amount of water allotted to their showers each month". While the system may be designed to foster bettering humanity, It doesn't seem like they've reached a societal hegemony yet where people don't need to be coerced or punished using status and privilege. But this is all based on merely an overview so far. Once they reveal the day to day lives of the citizens, we can get a clearer picture of the average person's motivations.
@Gustav_Kuriga6 жыл бұрын
Darwin Xavier Pffft, have you even paid attention to humanity in its current state? The moment the decision is given to the populace as a whole they vote solely by how they feel, and don't actually spend any effort to logically look at an issue. For most people, it is good enough to satisfy their own needs, and only their needs. Anything after that many will see as a waste, because they feel that others should solve their own issues, regardless if those others can solve the issue themselves or if the problem that affects them even originates locally, rather than being a national problem. You're naively optimistic about humanity's ability to actually work for the greater good in any significant way, when time and again we've shown that when possible, people will act selfishly.
@LiamN43216 жыл бұрын
Gustav Kuriga This makes sense looking from an evolutionary perspective. Look at chimps which will literally tear apart outsider chimps. Although that points more to tribalism, a separate issue. Though only caring about in-group is somewhat an extension of only caring about self survival. look at human history and human nature, not really convinced of these utopian ideas.

But if there are those who would deny us peace; refuse us our rightful place in the universe, then we will unleash such terrible vengeance that generations yet unborn will cry out in anguish! The enemy may shatter our bodies, but they cannot break our spirit. Even now they advance on our home world, to seize by force what they cannot claim by right. They cannot imagine what awaits them. WE WILL SMITE THE INVADERS FROM OUR SKIES! Though they sweep over our lands like the snows of winter, never again will we bow before them; never again endure their oppression; never again endure their tyranny. We will strike without warning and without mercy, fighting as one hand, one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares, drenching our ancestors' graves with their blood. As authoritian states go, this could be an awful lot worse. There does seem to be a legitimate interest in a utilitarian desire for the betterment of all mankind, not just to further the luxury of the nation's elite. While not an ideal civilisation, if it means the survival of our species I'd happily take it. The fact that we have come so far already and seen nothing of any extra terestial life implies it's am awfully grim place out there, and we'll need to be strong to survive.

In time of crisis it's normal for nations to slip into authoritarian policies but this is a little dystopic.
@CedarHunt6 жыл бұрын
This authoritarian state is just lucky it has plot armor because it never works out that way in reality. Fascistic states always sacrifice the needs of the "little people" for the "greater good" and as a result collapse at the first opportunity.
@kelvinwong5806 жыл бұрын
see here tho there is no one that realistically can just be sacrificed. Its about survival and even idiots can be put to use doing labor and anyone disabled can do menial tasks freeing up able body people to do other things. being pushed into a corner can do weird things to people's heads

@@placeholdername3818 thats exactly why i cane see myself caring for this civilization since its another dystopian authoritarian nationalistic empire... its bland and boring If they did something like earth was on the bring of ww3 to destroy all life on earth but were instead visited by aliens and uplifted into the galaxy would have been far more interesting because its so rarely talked about. Normally I don't like apocalyptic post Earths, but this is more about the rebuild of society, which is very inspirational and gives hope of a better future after a traumatic event. Here we can see, that we didn't forget our first contact, and how terrified we are about the aliens coming. It's because how indefense we were that we need to know we are safe and prepared, because deep down we know the will be back, and wen that happens we will kick their collective asses. The depth of the politics and the military is astonishing, and the world idling is superb. This is simply too awesome!!!!

Brothers! Sisters! Children of Humanity! Long have we suffered in the aftermath of a Brutal and inhuman foe but remember this, when the Alien menace came knocking at our door did we give in? Did we go gently into that good night? No! We resisted and held on and displayed the unconquerable unbreakable spirit of Mankind. We survived, we rebuilt, we built ourselves back up from the brink of oblivion and now we learn, we grow and we study what remains of our enemy's advanced technology. Now we stand together as one fellowship of man united as one, ready to head out among the stars into a Golden new age, into a final frontier and maybe, just maybe, we will learn who they were and why they came and if that day ever come we will repay their crimes, their atrocities one thousand times over! Would love to see the Holy Solar Empire as a cult in this setting. It would be interesting to see a faction that worships the apocalyptic events of before, now having a small power-grab in some areas of the GTU. The idea of an "inquisition vs cultists" sub-plot would sound like an opportunity not to waste.
@calvinfeisalfatwanirwana93896 жыл бұрын
lam nguyen At first I assume this Union would be like the Imperium of Man, then I realized that there is no religious fanatism on the GTU. So they are more akin to Turian Hierarchy. Speaking of the Holy Solar Empire, I can see they will be similar to Halo's Covenant. If i remember correctly on the introduction narrative, the a religious cult found what? An alien artifact or a crash landed ship? (I forgot that part). Reverse-engineered it, became an interstellar civilization, & proceeds to not only expand territory but also their faith. But that just my scenario that i could think of. What do you think 😊?
@calvinfeisalfatwanirwana93896 жыл бұрын
Fahnell In the introduction narrative, Templin Institute stated that the Soviets succeeds, so somehow their ideology work. Somehow. So I think they have competent but still ruthless leaders. I mean, they somehow manage to overthrow their capitalist foes. Perhaps with military subjugation, create a working socialist society, combination of both? Idk. I know you're just joking though, I know in real life they failed & ineffective.

@Anastas17866 жыл бұрын
Wen L. In the military, a "commissariat" is just a department or organization given oversight over something important. There _are_ commissariats in Communist systems, but it's not necessarily a Communist thing. In this case, the Greater Terran Union Commissariats seem to have inherited their name from the more common kind found in most militaries, Communist and not, in which the Commissar(ry) is in charge of finding, collecting, and distributing food and other (non-ammunition) supplies.
