On Monday 28 June, University of Manchester Physicist Professor Brian Cox delivered the first lecture aimed at GCSE/Key stage 4 science pupils. The lecture was also broadcast live via the University website www.manchester.... . Professor Cox discussed the Big Bang, the origins of the universe and the importance of science to our modern civilisation.

There are three main sources of heat in the deep earth: (1) heat from when the planet formed and accreted, which has not yet been lost; (2) frictional heating, caused by denser core material sinking to the center of the planet; and (3) heat from the decay of radioactive elements.
