I love you guys, but as a Brazilian I _do_ feel the need to say that this is more "Wii Sports Resort Style" than Bossa Nova... ... but still great as always!

Hey there! You seem like the perfect person to ask, so do you have any pointers when it comes to bossa?

Would it be terrible to admit that 'Wii Sports Resort style' doesn't sound half bad?😉

Definitely more of a jazzy Bossa Nova, but so freakin' tasty. Reminds me of a lighter style of Arturo Sandoval's Afro-Cuban jazz. Love it!

@@claudioneitor I don't have a formal instruction in music theory or anything of the sort, so please do forgive any inadequacies in this attempt to convey what I, personally, feel what makes something genuinely fit in with Bossa Nova. Bossa was a twist on the common structure of Samba - it took the rhythmic structure and cultural background, but gave it a new spin by combining it with ideas borrowed from both Jazz and Blues. While Samba is much more energetic and "bright", Bossa is much calmer and "subdued", and this is reflected directly in what you need to be able to play it - just your voice and a guitar. I think if I had to pick a single adjective to describe Bossa, I'd be torn between "Melancholic" and "Intimate". It might be difficult to notice it if you don't listen/understand the lyrics, but Bossa Nova's songs are _very_ sad in what they say - some more than others. They can range from (the seemingly universal topic of) unrequited feelings (Garota de Ipanema, more famously), up to a philosophical debate upon the nature of life, and whether or not it is a futile exercise and, ultimately, an illusion ("Sei Lá (A Vida tem Sempre Razão), by Tom Jobim) - and yet, lyrics aside, it'll never seem like that was the case, just going by what the songs sound like! The single greatest name when it comes to Bossa, at least for me, is João Gilberto and his way of playing that was so unique to him, and was later adopted by other Bossa musicians. He doesn't sing loudly, he sings very softly, very calmly, almost as if he was talking to himself - which connects to what I mentioned before about how it feels intimate. This soft nature also applies to the instrumental side of the songs, too. If I had to call it something, I'd call it almost _subdued_ in how they are, as if the instruments are doing the bare minimum to play the songs, but don't wish to draw attention to themselves. If you want to get a feel for what the most _Bossa_ Bossa sounds like, there's no better way to do it than listen to João Gilberto's recordings - not the ones with Stan Gertz though. Good as they are (and I do love them to bits), there's some foreign influence on those songs that changes the songs in a way that they ARE Bossa... but not quite. That weird feeling when something is _slightly_ off, you know? Anyway, this was all very rambly and haphazardly put together, not to mention really reliant on "feels like" more than "is", but I hope through this disjointed mess of a post, I've managed to get at least parts of the idea across lol

@@GabrielGABFonseca oh, I certainly wasn't expecting anything too music theory oriented, as I'm no expert myself haha but I definitely have to thank you for such a thoughtful response! being that I don't speak Portuguese I never even considered looking into the lyrics, but I'll be sure to do so now. I also hadn't considered that the albums featuring Gertz had a different vibe to them! so, once again, you've given me a lot to look into and I do appreciate it sir

this sounds like the background music for a casino that sounds really good but you never get to hear because of everyone talking so you have to try to listen really closely to enjoy it

It's like that at our local cafe. I'm thinking of getting them to use my Consouls Spotify playlist instead of their randomly chosen BGM ;)

I imagined former Brazilian president Juscelino Kubitscheck (known as the Bossa Nova president) playing Sonic with this song. You may be sure Juscelino and Tom Jobim would enjoy your Bossa Nova interpretation of Star Light Zone.

That's the difference between live music (only one take) and a studio recording. When you are in the room these boys play musical magic so you really only notice any tiny slips when you listen to the VOD. Consouls Radios are the best!
