No disrespect to Whitney's because yes it was amazing. With that said... Whitney's version was lip synced to a studio recording... not because she couldn't do it live but the NFL did not want to take any chances. This version is SO raw and emotional and totally impromptu. The people there witnessed something amazing. Can you imagine if she sang this at a huge event with all the proper equipment?!? It'd be EPIC

@clothilde16238 жыл бұрын
This is...incredible. A passionate, impromptu performance by a lady with a quite phenomenal voice. The setting of Lincoln's Memorial is extremely poignant given his legacy, particularly the emancipation of African American slaves. When Star sang "the land of the free" I quite unexpectedly dissolved into tears and found it difficult to catch my breath. I must point out that 1) I am not emotionally incontinent and _very_ rarely cry at music, and 2) I am not even American. This performance moves me deeply because it somehow captures the triumphant and indomitable human spirit. It is very beautiful. I like to think that somewhere, somehow, Abe heard this and smiled. Star, your name is very appropriate! Thank you for being brave enough to sing when you were clearly afraid. You have a great talent and a true gift. Thank you also to the gent who thoughtfully captured this on camera. I only wish I had been there. Peace, love and much respect from Scotland, UK. 😊

Lincoln was a white supremacist
@HypothermicCrab8 жыл бұрын
+yael RA And what does that have to do with him being a white supremacist?
@HypothermicCrab8 жыл бұрын
+yael RA did you read my comment? He literally said black people are inherently inferior to white people, that's the literal definition of a white supremacist. This speech is easily accessible on the Internet and in multiple books I'm not going to hold your fucking hand. Lincoln wanted slavery to end because he didn't think the union could survive divided with slave states and free states and because white labor couldn't compete with slave labor and it gave the south too much economic and political power, but he was still a racist white supremacist just like most white northerners who were against slavery. You clearly don't have a clue what your talking about.

Its been almost 2 years since I first saw this, and its still awesome. Occasionally there comes a moment in time, a special moment, at a special place where everything just comes together that leaves a lasting impression. Whitney did it in 1991at the end of the gulf war...her rendition of the star spangled banner is considered the best. Not only because she sung it flawlessly, but it lifted a whole nation and was an unforgettable American moment. G star swain has done the same.
