In relation to the bridge set being destroyed, there’s a moment in that scene where you see Troi take a seat at the helm/con which quickly cuts away before she fully sits down. The reason it cuts away so quickly is that Marina Sirtus sat on a burning ember from the pyrotechnics on set. They couldn’t reshoot the scene once the set was destroyed so they still used the footage.

The issue about colours looking different under studio lights was not limited to the Enterprise model. In TOS the command crew on sreen is wearing gold uniforms, yet the actual wardrobe was in fact lime. That's why Kirk's dress uniform and Wrap around, that were of a different fabric, were green and not gold.

Having a space with Null-g in Sick bay makes sense if you have ever seen people do aqua therapy (especially after being paralyzed or spinal surgery) or have seen the DS9 Episode "Melora" (where she had to use a wheel chair because she came from a planet with higher gravity) so when you are the Federation flagship and you travel to many uncharted worlds, you might encounter species with gravity different from Earth/Federation standard...you could see how that could be more useful than "saving you putting your feet up when you sprain your ankle."
@Krahazik2 жыл бұрын
I thought she came from a planet with much lower gravity. Recall her quarters were setup so she could turn off the gravity generators as that was easier for her to move in. She needed the wheel chair or special exo-supports because her muscles and bones were not built for standard gravity.

A long time ago I read an interview with the man who painted the original Enterprise model. He said the paint colour was called concrete, because Gene Roddenberry wanted it grey like navy ships. He then went on to say that the problem with concrete is that it's very good at absorbing the colours around it. The main colour near the original model? That was the blue screen it was shot in front of. So it absorbed the blue colour making the ship look duck egg blue.

Mike Okuda talked about the CGI option. The problem wasn’t as much an issue of not looking good enough, but rather an issue of production schedule. As Okuda put it, the technology was untested for use with a weekly TV show. Even a small technical problem could derail show filming and cause enormous issues. So even though the lower price and capabilities were appealing, they stuck with the devil they knew (models) to ensure the show could be produced on schedule. Most everyone seems to agree that they made the right call for the time as they were just a _little bit_ too early for the technology.

My biggest gripe with the bridge of the Enterprise for Generations was not that they added the side work stations or the stairs leading up to the captain's chair (or even the chair they finally gave to Worf), it was the lighting! It went from being so bright to looking like someone had lit it to be a gothic dungeon. That along with having the computer suddenly have a massive problem with reverb throughout the entire ship (including the bridge)... it really didn't work.
@stefanmisch52722 жыл бұрын
Yeah, in generations the ship's inside was much too dark.
@joermnyc2 жыл бұрын
They reduced the lighting because the sets were built for lower resolution TV cameras. On higher resolution film stock all the flaws (like gaps between panels, paint errors, etc) would have been glaringly obvious, but they didn’t have the budget to fix it. So lowering the lights “hid” the issues.

I noticed the changes of TNG Enterprise, but shrugged it off as refits. The TOS enterprise actually went through something like five different changes, or refits, the last three minor but there. BTW, in 1960s through 80s TV the TOS enterprise looked white. In fact the 1970s Enterprise model kit had for the paint of the ship as white. The original TOS model was not duck egg blue but a slightly greenish mid grey. I saw in person the refurbished version (which I think was much more to what it would have looked like in the studio, without the studio lighting, inferior film, and TV broadcast changes). It was grey with a slight tint of green. Duck egg blue is much lighter than the ship was. The movie Enterprise's color parts (the rest was white with different shininess) were duck egg blue.

12:00 When TOS was first broadcast, most people had only black & white TV sets, and from a distance the glow of the screen is distinctly blue.

Just going to needlessly gush over the Enterprise-D here. Andrew Probert designed a ship that, for me, has never been surpassed yet. It has a grandeur and majesty that I don’t think you find on any other ship of the line. A travesty it was destroyed by a POS BOP in Generations, not the fitting send off she deserved. Seeing her in First Contact and watching the Borg assimilate her bit by bit would’ve been far more impactful than this new toy we were given. Even Beverley summed it up when she said something along the lines of “well, they’ll just build another one”. Booo!

She makes a comeback in Picard S3E9 and E10. There are plenty of videos on here.
