@@Annishark poor writing out the gate i think, and granted its nothing new to trek (season one tng wtf). in this case they wrote themselves into a corner and tried to forget about it later. my first time seeing the pilot and having it relieved that they are short on torps i was like "well this is going to be a boring show". thing about scifi is that which can be technobabbled away can be handwaved back. having starfleet send them plans for a 'quantum resolution industrial replicator' could have solved this problem. i guess theres a reason voyager was my least favorite trek.

Honestly the holodecks having their own independent powersources actually makes perfect sense when you consider that they can easily function as any other room on the ship, including the bridge, and could probably function as life support systems.

The power system was separate. The computer system was not. How often did doctor transfer himself from Sickbay to Holodeck and back? He is a program, so the computers had to be connected to transfer him between the two places. Thus, the only effects this had were bad ones. Voyager had to carry a second (incompatible) power source and fuel for it. When there was a ship-wide emergency, the holodeck did not shut off, potentialy causing trouble. (S7E15 The Void)¨ Of course, it would have helped if they ever used holodecks for mess halls to save on regular fuel, as holodecks do include replicators. But they never did.

About the Borg Tech on the ship: the crew (with the help of 7) disabled the techs ability to replicate. And about the torpedoes: how did you count them? Because there are several episodes that actually don’t count. What I mean is any time that the crew is thrown into some kind of “time loop” like in the episodes “the year from hell”, none of that applies because time was reset and they never actually fired any of those torpedoes.
@obi-wankenobi573

@@obi-wankenobi573 it would be like playing a game of chess, and before you get to the end, you cleared the board and put the pieces back to their original position. So when time was “turned back” or reset, the torpedoes that were fired in the episode, the event that made them fire the torpedoes and all, never took place. So the crew still have those torpedoes because they were never fired.

@@jasperyang2395 I Agree totally, not to mention 'The Alliance', any 'favour' resupplies they got (From people that owed Neelix a favour, Q's 10 year shotcut could have also [in subtext situ] provided them with a few more 'bonuses' after the episode ends [with there being days or weeks between some episodes], or even just passing trade [which we know they mined and proccessed things they didnt use just for trading value]) We also have the fact that things could be de-replicated and re-replicated at need, salavage operations on Borg vessels (which would have, even if borg infested, Alpha Quadrant Tech) that could be repurposed by 7 of 9. Its also mentioned that even after catastrophic destruction alot of core system rooms can be 'repaired' to full working condition in a matter of weeks, and some rooms are visibly fixed after any Temporal Excersion. Temporal Incersions are different, as they are the epicenter of the Temporal Field, as such are in the 'eye of the storm' and all actions are counted. (Same counts for all shuttle craft, we do know shuttles could tractor, and shuttle debris was either transported aboard, or towed back for repair or re/de-replicated) I think the whole 'limited resources' thing was a bit mis-understood. At the start of Voyager they have to plan for what could happen in the next 75+ years at a minimum, thats how to feed, clothe, and provide medical care for the whole crew. Neelix's expertise helps with food and the combination with the doctor helps with medicine, but weapons and the such are highly non-essential to the crews well-being (outside of a combat situation, in which case sheilding and phasers are not tied into repicator energy). Even at a low reserve of 10 torpedoes unless the ship had enough replicator power to trade, or produce components to otherwise supliment their torpedoes, for all intensive purposes they had no resuply, thus no way to know if, how or when they could or might get torpedoes. And in a case like that, you have 30 odd torpedoes. On a slight other note, Janeway is a generation past TOS Enterprise crew, and although ENT was made and released after VOY, Archer and Co. are alot more trigger happy, alot more fight. And TOS crew, mainly Scotty and Co. had a tendency to exagerate, they were in no 'real' danger while exploring ("if you need 12 hours laddie, tell them you need 16, then you look like a miracle worker"), Janeway and Co. new they were done. Strait done. They were the other side of the galaxy, in a strangers back yard. There was no exageration, no hopeful thinking, and she didnt want to be left out matched and out gunned. She was also being joined by Maquis, just as happy to start a war if it furthered their own goals. She had to make sure everyone knew from minute one, every resource is valuable, that they were to waste nothing. I loved VOY, my biggest wormhole of thought is where Noami Wildman was at most of the time, mainly when the ship was getting invaded, or some wierd phenomena where everyone gets lost, all this plot on her growing up, none on that time she got traumatised because the ship corridors were spaghetti and no one could find each other for hours? Atleast with Wesley you could see the effect of his time on board, her 'smart child' thing threw me a little, because she never actually showed any signs of affect from what had happened.

I was under the impression that the subspace damage in “Force of Nature” was localised to the Hekaras sector. I can see how the Federation message could be interpreted to mean that all vessels everywhere would be restricted to Warp 5 or below, but because the message was talking about “susceptible regions” earlier in the same sentence, I interpreted it to mean that all Federation vessels that come to the region for “essential travel only” would be restricted to Warp 5. The Intrepid shuttle bay had two levels, the top-level having room for 4-6 craft, and a lower level with room for a dozen or so more. There was also a repair facility (seen during the Delta-Flyer's construction) where they had an industrial replicator at the rear of the top-level, allowing for the construction of entirely new shuttles or repair parts for damaged ones provided they could find the required raw materials. Trek fans are supposed to be one of the more intelligent fanbases, yet this seems to be a huge sticking point for most fans, when anyone with half a brain and an understanding of how in-universe trek tech works would go 'Oh, that makes sense'.

I always assumed the second warp core was in storage, not actually connected; the hatch being how they'd get it out of storage for reinstallation in Engineering. (Which then makes your commentary even better because they could have just hooked it up and problem solved.) I believe it was the TNG Tech Manual that explained that maximum warp on any vessel would not be sustainable for more than a few hours at a time, so definitely Voyager would be looking at far more than 75 years because of the rests they would have to take for the warp core to cool down (I think it's 6 hours at max warp, 12 hours recovery?). I think the reason why the Holodecks run on their own power ties into the TNG episode Booby Trap, where the enterprise is stuck in an ancient trap that siphons their power and converts it to radiation. Geordi recreates the Utopia Planitia ship yards during the time of the Enterprise's development to essentially rebuild the Enterprises power systems, and come up with a plan to escape the trap. When power got to low, the Holodecks were immediately discontinued. The designers of Voyager took that into account for Engineering purposes. Add to that it also provides an emergency back up for the EMH, in the event Sickbay is overwhelmed than emergency triage can be set up in the Holodeck, even if power is offline in other parts of the ship.

Iirc the ship was supposed to have an endurance of 9 years before needing refueled, I have to assume that number comes from an understanding of the general operating conditions of a ship and an average speed. Meaning if they flew straight at a cruising speed non stop they would likely run out well before 9 years are up. I also have to assume that the often repeated legnth of their journey was calculated based on assumptions about repairs refueling and other incidental stops, not just the distance to be traveled by the ships top or cruising speed.

How long have you driven in one direction before you want to stop and take a break? That is why they stopped off and explored different places... pee and no2 breaks, stop and wind down the windows and air it out after Neelix's Leeola root stew didn't agree with someone, picking up hitchhikers (like Seven) and just basic stopping to look at knick knacks (exploring). Voyager should have used the Aeroshuttle! It's such a shame they didn't. Should have showed it in mid season 4. When they found ways to replenish the warp drive they could use the replicator to build whatever they deemed important. Voyager did more of what the mission was described as being in the the original series than any other. Their exposure to new tech especially from Borg interaction was key as well as the Holodeck sophistication should have meant a new series. The sad part was the fact that Kate did not like Jeri, even though it seemed a paternal bond on the show. Kes was a favorite and evolved rather than died and the episode where she returns to the ship is epic.
