I always remembered this episode because of Lincoln. It was the first time I ever saw a impersonator of him. In my mind at such a young age it was how I imagined him to be. When I saw him die a "second" time I felt empty, almost like crying. Its a great episode.

I don't care how many snotty remarks people make. With no budget, lousy sets and a studio working to kill them off, the show created an unforgettable premise that fearlessly tackled big questions in ways Lucasfilms and Marvel never have.

You’re right about the original Star Trek series. But you’re sour opinion of Lucasfilm is wrong. That first Star Wars film inspired an entire generation of children and new filmmakers. That was also a script that no studio wanted to touch. And btw, Star Trek The Motion Picture was made because of Star Wars. They are both equally influential. Don’t forget this.

something to do with American sanctifying their icons, so that Lincoln=Christ, and was victim of the most renowned act of terrorism ever, even eclipsing 9/11. Had he not been assassinated, he was likely to die early of general bad health or, given his depression, even suicide (which would have enlightened attitudes to mental illness). Far more important assassinations were Henry IV of France or William the Silent of the Netherlands, who had already taken history down unanticipated routes in a manner that was long-term progressive, and would probably have done more of the same

“Your good and your evil use the same methods, achieve the same results. Do you have an explanation?” Good question by the rock creature. Always liked the Col. Green character too. I think the guy that played him was a big Star Trek fan and probably attended some of the conventions wearing a red jumpsuit. “Col. Green you had the reputation of moving against your adversaries in the midst of negotiations. Why captain that was centuries ago and not altogether true, no there is much I would do differently now if I could, don’t let rumor and innuendo sway you.” The original episodes were well written.

This character was not only extremely creative in shape and form but also his power to transmute atoms, cells, and molecules, molecular reconstruction, and last but certainly and definitely not least his curiosity and intelligence was frighteningly and haunting enough to what lengths and measures he went to just to decipher and investigate human frailty, morality, and rationality. It would seem that this alien being with the nigh incalculable powers it possessed was entertained by the conflict for his own private enjoyment. I love it with all my heart and soul, great episode and thanks so much the clip.

Can you imagine what the mission reports from the crew of the Enterprise must read like from Starfleet Command's perspective? 'Touched down on planet at 3:59pm local time. President Lincoln was located, but was pronounced dead on arrival by myself and the landing party. Ambushed by Genghis Khan and Klingon reinforcements at 4:12 pm local time. 4:15 pm - Landing party encountered a talking dung heap with light bulbs for a mouth, we discussed the genealogy of human morality and left in peace.'

@@Zorro9129 I would say that you failed to fully appreciate all the moral education in Star Trek. I've studied Philosophy and Ethics extensively. Most any name or vocab word you could think of from around the world. The Secular Humanism and Rational Materialism of Star Fleet beats them all, hands down - and is still what I believe now. Tho as a little kid, I didn't know it had a name
@Zorro9129
@Zorro9129 4 жыл бұрын
@@justsomeguy3931 That simply confirms it for me, as I regard secular humanism as one of humanity's greatest follies and made-up religions. It has no real moral anchor except for a vague or contrived "feel-goodism" that can be easily adapted by actors to fit their own interests. In other words, it is not real morality at all.

@@Zorro9129 Oh, so you believe in mythology then?
@Zorro9129
@Zorro9129 4 жыл бұрын
@@justsomeguy3931 No, I believe in Natural Law (or "the Dao," as C.S. Lewis would put it) which is a morality that all great religions abide by, in whole or in part. One must love his family and kin, respect strangers, care for one's elders as well as one's children, etc. Any attempt to replace this with a "scientific" formulation is bound to fall short, as every ideology which rejects Natural Law unconsciously channels some of its tenets, while repudiating others. The only real alternative to traditional morality is therefore a total selfishness or Egoism. Secular humanism cannot and will not lead to "better" humans any more than the fad ideology-religions from the 18th to 20th century have. In terms of practical ethics, it is far simpler yet useful to follow the principle of "do not initiate aggression" similar to what Lysander Spooner believed. If society considered that one principle it would be by no means perfect yet it would be much more civil, yet secular humanism does not follow it beyond lip service.

Genghis definitely runs off (following Zora who ran off early in the fight), but it looks like Kahless was speared in the stomach by Kirk and left to die. Green may have been stabbed in the back by his own short spear, or otherwise simply knocked out by blunt trauma. The Excalbian says "the others have run off," but I assume he means the two others who weren't dispatched by Kirk, and Kahless and Green were dead or unconscious at that point.

The way I see it between Spock and Sarek, there were 2 Vulcans who could've nerve pinched all 4 of the evil duplicates early on during the first confrontation. The concept of 'mineralite' or living rock as Scotty described it has been speculated to exist for quite some time.

still, kirk made a good point, the incentive was different, it was far from a good test. Had he offered kirk and spock power instead of the lives of their crew, thing might've been different. Our methods change when we think the ends justify the means. We want peace, but how many lives would you hurt, torture, and end in order to get it? Its why I believe the method and means matter as much as the end.

Landing crew of the enterprise against history of earth great leaders , this is obvious a base match. A lot such as a basing match in a game to describe it full - Subspace Continuum.

Evenly matched, I would say. It was a back-and-forth struggle, neither able to defeat the other.

@@hammeringhank5271 Maybe Vulcans only seem much stronger to 25th century humans who were never bred to live outside, endure hardship and survive only as long as they could fight.

Vulcans are three times stronger than equally athletic humans. A well-trained human could conceivably take on a Vulcan in battle, as Kirk did during Spock's Pon Farr.
