Modern directors should finally learn that being self-aware about being bad doesn't make it somehow magically good.

Jesus Christ yes....She--Hulk did nothing but point out how terrible it was during the show...it was still god Awful... it's more insulting they knew they sucked and still didn't fix it

This Meta is like Time Travelling, Multiverse,... etc., When used in small doses it was interesting, but now everyone is using these concepts even in ghost/supernatural stories like Insidious,... and saturated the topics to the extent that it became annoying.

Same as with the previous installments: enjoyable and entertaining, especially in the character in interaction and visual effects departments, as long as you don't think too hard about the plot (which is a kinda sad thing to say about a Star Trek movie). Some things are non-issues for me. Since it's 3 years later it isn't hard to imagine that Carol Marcus just rotated to a different position in Starfleet. And as for the magic blood: well, it's based on the outlawed eugenics technology so it's not hard to imagine either that the use of Khan's blood was outlawed as well for moral reasons. I mean, that was the whole basis for the Khan storyline since the original show. Aaand Deep Space Nine was built next to an unstable wormhole leading to an uncharted quadrant of the galaxy. That wasn't a problem either.

6:08 that was one problem I had with the last two movies, the way massive ships falling at terminal velocity seemed to so easily overcome that momentum. I know "pulling up at the last second" is a very common flying trope, and we don't actually see how far from the ground Enterprise was in Into Darkness, but it still resurfaced above the clouds way too fast, and from the scene I timestamped, the Franklin should been turned into a pancake with little Starfleet raspberry fillings.

It's crazy because Simon Pegg says he was a Star Trek fan and then released this. If I'm not mistaken, he wrote this one. Idk, could have been better

Wow! I never even thought about a Next Gen reboot! I never got into Next Gen much, my sister did. But that would be a great idea!

Why the hell would you want to reboot TNG instead of making a sequel to the TNG/DS9 storyline?? Okay, Picard series basically tried to do that, except it went unneccessarily grimdark.

Pitch Meeting, as always! I have never even tried to watch the new ST films because I have very strong emotions about all 4 of the old ST series. (6 if you include the animated series, which I totally do!) I was the kind of fan that read all the zines. I even realized that I like girls due to TNG! (I’m an über-nerd!) I also have strong feelings about JJ Abrams - which are not at all similar to my feelings about original ST!! I do love the ST renaissance streaming services have brought us, though.

As a huge Star Trek fan for a good 40 years now I'll say give it a try. Sure, these movies have some problems, but they got the characters down pretty good. It's just fun to watch, even with the new actors. They all do a great job! The nostalgia factor is good enough to make me look past the plot issues. Hell, it's Star Trek! So boldly go where you haven't gone before and watch them! If you like the new Star Trek shows, the risk is minimal, because Discovery, Picard and Strange New Worlds took a huge chunk out of the these three movie's playbook, for better and for worse.

The creators of the new movies understodd that the best way to show an interesting romantic relationship is to have the people in it keep breaking up and getting back together.

“I totally forgot that Idris Elba was in this. That’s how long ago it’s been since I’ve seen it.” I disagree Mike. It shows how *forgettable* this movie (or entire trilogy if we’re being honest) is. There are lots of older and BETTER movies about which I remember everyone and everything.
