Hello Everyone and Welcome to What Did I Miss, where today I am counting down my Top 10 Favorite Deep Space Nine Episodes of all time. I love Star Trek, and the quality of stories and characters that Deep Space Nine produced week after week is a big reason why. If you do follow the channel, you probably already know that I put out a video a few months ago about why I think it is the best series, so I won’t continue to gush here. I will go over each episode briefly and then give you why I think it is one of the best but let me know in the comments what is your list. So here it is, my top 10 Best Deep Space Nine Episodes list of all time.

Thanks for watching! *Fun fact: This was the first script I ever wrote for a KZbin video. I wrote it in July 2020 when I decided that I wanted to start a channel, and have been sitting on it since. I was afraid it was too large to record so I waited until I felt more comfortable, and after releasing 50 videos I finally felt up to it. I went back to it a couple weeks ago removed about 2,000 words, added another 500 and hit record! I hope you enjoy!!!

Some of these episodes alone by itself would make great standalone movies. 'Pale Moonlight' was my fave. I couldn't bring myself to delete it off my hard drive. Always love DS9 & miss it terribly. And now we got "Discovery" ?? How did we lose the way !! (...long sigh) Good job with this posting !! I'd really enjoyed it.

I think fans need to mount a campaign to tell CBS how much Discovery is vandalizing and distroying OUR franchise.

Nice list! Although I wouldn't have included all the episodes you did, every one of them deserves to be there. As for my personal list, I would add "It's only a Paper Moon", "Homefront"/"Paradise Lost", "The Visitor", "Nor the Battle to the Strong", "Little Green Men", "Call to Arms"/"A Time to Stand", "His Way" and "What You Leave Behind" (and of course, "In the Pale Moonlight" and "Far Beyond the Stars" are included as well).

Ds9 is the best series of all time. Far beyond the stars is unforgettable. Avery Brooks is sensational in it. I would add the following episodes. Duet Shakaar The Siege of AR-558 It's only a paper moon Looking for Par'Mach in all the wrong places. There are so many great episodes it's insane. I could watch Major Kira screw Winn's plans all day. It never gets old. Shakaar is a great episode because you get to see her with her resistance cell for a bit and that's always intriguing.

I rank "In the Pale Moonlight" as the best Trek episode of any Trek series. I think it shows how complicated it is to put forth a lie and continue that lie to its ultimate conclusion. The episode can be used to teach ethics and mortality. Invariably "a lie" leads to a second lie, then another and yet another until it all gets terrible complicated. Ask anyone who has cheated on a spouse, girlfriend or boyfriend. You know what I am talking about.

My favorite episode was (possibly) titled "The Gaia Planet." Data and crew crash land on a lush Earthlike planet and transported 200-years into the past. Unfortunately, Data's secrete flame dies in the crash. After 200 years pass, Data is the only original crew member whose descendants number maybe 200 people, mostly a farming community with small scale electricity. Data calculates that at the moment when they reach the point in time of the crash, disrupting the crash will save (I forget her name) her life, but the settlement of real people will be as if they never existed. Most beautiful Star Trek story of all. Very Shakespearean.

I love your list. Every single one of those episodes are very strong and represent the best of the best Star Trek series. A few other episodes that are on my list and on many others: Duet: This is an absolute acting masterclass between Nana Visitor and guest star Harris Yulin. The reveal twist towards the end of the episode absolutely rips my guts out every time I watch it. The Visitor: An absolutely beautiful story about the love of a father and son. Also reduces me to a blubbering piece of jelly. The Siege of AR-558: One of the only times Star Trek shows the cost of war close up, and it pulls no punches. It's Only a Paper Moon: Companion to AR-558. An absolutely beautiful story about veterans and PTSD. Aron Eisenberg's finest hour. Waltz: Marc Alaimo's best performance in the series, full stop.

I loved your insightful analysis! Although I loved _In The Pale Moonlight_ (its in my top 2) I want to mention that Cisco's delicacy is unrealistic given the kind of war being fought. Any military officer (which is what Cisco is at this point) would jump at the chance of bringing the Romulans into the war at the price of an underhanded sabotage scheme that cost a few deaths, no one would even hesitate. The Dominion is portrayed as completely ruthless and waging "total war", including bio warfare and genocide against civilian populations ( _The Quickening_ ). Starfleet's (and the Federation's) advanced Roddenberry ethics and altruism would not survive the kind of warfare between races portrayed in DS9. How many civilians are being killed on both sides in the Dominion war? If a Dominion military facility was located in the middle of a city, would Starfleet refrain from bombing it, causing hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties? If so, the Dominion has an easy way to win the war. Modern wars generally kill more innocent civilians than military personnel. Total war inevitably reduces both sides to brutality. I like the optimistic Roddenberry view in TNG that in future spacefaring civilizations warfare has become mostly obsolete. In TNG there seems to be cold wars (with the Romulans) and skirmishes but the races are able to refrain from all out wars (from what I recollect: correct me if I'm wrong). I also think that is a realistic view of the future. A civilization that continues to fight "total wars" is not going to achieve interstellar spaceflight, it will keep destroying itself back to pre-technological or pre-industrial level, if it doesn't wipe itself out (I haven't watched _Enterprise_ yet). Our human race is in a slow process of limiting or ending war: it has been 3/4 of a century since the last "World War".

Hint: try not talking so fast...at least do some pauses so that it seems like you're taking a breath. Otherwise, good show.
