The only person who loved Odo almost as much as Kira was Quark. 😄

Notice that Quark easily opened Odo's door with a code. The Chief of Security's personal home. And not one word was spoken about how he could do it. That's how far Odo had fallen at this point.

2:00 the way Quark goes from saying Odo's name twice with increasing anger, and then instantly switches to "are you okay?" with genuine concern. God I love these two's frenemy relationship

Knowledge is recognising that it's ridiculous that Quark would have a 'manhunt pool' that he's been running for months that Odo didn't know about. Wisdom is knowing that there was never a 'manhunt pool', and that Quark is truly Odo's friend.

Kira: “No belt?” Odo: ‘I’m focusing on the essentials.’

Quark has a heart made out of gold pressed latinum. He just doesn't show it most of the time. Moogie did a great job raising her two sons. Rom is also a gem. Not to mention Nog who will become a captain one day but the only one who passed the Kobayashi Maru test. Twice! My precious Ferengi boys 🥹 They were the heart of DS9. Atleast in my opinion.

This single episode and specifically these distilled scene are perhaps the story of my life. Back in the 90s when this episode first aired and even some 25 years later, the feelings this scene evokes are still raw. I know exactly how Odo feels in this scene. At least he wins Kira's heart towards the end of the series. I wish I could find a similar resolution in my own love (or lack thereof) life.

Yeah i feel you, one of the characters arcs I felt most deeply of any star trek characters was Odo’s, not necessarily his romance, but him changing from this closed off distant cold stoic figure to someone who’s able to be more open, express emotions, care about others, have supportive friends and loved ones, being able to be himself in all his idiosyncrasies. Wish I could manage to do that.

@@GuineaPigEveryday Yes. If we can't find this level of acceptance from people in our own lives, we can live vicariously through our favorite characters who can achieve it. It's also a testament to the excellent writing of that era, too.

The most nuanced and best portrayed friendship of Trek lore! Way better than Geordi and Data, Spock and Kirk, even Spock and Bones or Q and Picard as a matter of fact!

I've always preferred DS9 to other Star Treks. He was different from the others. In no other film was the relationship between the actors so visible. Odo and Kira, this relationship matured wonderfully with each episode. Odo and Quark, these two are amazing. Every actor played amazingly. Everyone had their own problems. They shot the episodes brilliantly when Nog had his problems and escaped to the holocabin with them. Star Trek The Next Generation is second on my list. Others are far behind.
