As Ian Knapp, Myra Elbrey, and Traya Knapp are preparing to celebrate the Earth tradition of Christmas, a surprise visitor arrives on the station. Someone is keeping an eye on the Briar Patch and is not saying why...

Just reading some of the comments. I think it's a good episode and gives a little insight into Knapp and Traya. Truth is, I really like Hidden Frontier on many levels, much mentioned green screen not withstanding. Re: the "anti-religion" aspect of things... I remember reading the Roddenberry was pretty anti-religion himself and in his original concept for TOS wanted it known that religion had become obsolete by the 23rd century. As it turned out, for a guy who had no use for religion, he leaned pretty heavily on it and there are evidences great and small that many TOS characters had religious beliefs of varying levels of tradition. (Capt. Kirk remarking that "we find the One [God] quite sufficient") or even Bones whispering a plaintive "God forgive me" before he has to shoot the salt sucking monster who takes the form of his one time lady-love. The series is peppered with such things. Spock is scene meditating several times (and in later series as well) in what appears to be a deep religious trance and certainly the Vulcan culture we are introduced to seems rife with at least quasi-religious symbolism. If I were a real nit-picker, I'd suggest that Knapp and the counselors description of what happened after first contact it a bit overstated - at least according to Star Trek "canon". A saving grace (pardon the pun) is that they do make mention of the fact that everyone is free to follow their own beliefs and Traya points out that there are those who believe in a single Creator while others believe in a vista of spirit beings (she mentioned the Bajorans [sp?] by way of an example. But I'm not really a not-picker, just one of legions of trekies (can you tell?!) who more or less loves the ST concept. Which is why I really appreciate these fanfiction efforts, even if they don't get every little detail right, or if the artists put their own spin on a few things. Peace, aml

Necro-posting, but your every word is exactly what I would have said. DS9 touched on how the Bajorans are fervent faithful (most of them - Ro on HF made it clear several episodes ago he doesn't believe all the dogma) several times, compared to the rest of the Federation. Then it turned out their gods were hyper-advanced aliens with no concept of linear time (something the Q still pay homage to, at least).

You posted this 6 years ago, but just wanted to say, I really liked your comments on the Star Trek Hidden Frontier " Christmas Q " episode. I'm not religious myself, but ( but sounds like a negative qualifier) you're comments were ( are) thoughtful. I just discovered these series, and they are really great! End of the day, what matters most is compelling characters and stories. Sorry for rambling on...Qa'Pla! 🤣. 🤘😁🖖🇨🇦

I think this has to be the most delightful episode in the whole series. Brought tears of joy to my eyes. Christmas is coming soon again, my friends. May whatever God you might believe in bring you happiness and joy.

I’m crying with joy as well. I’d freaking love getting a visit from Q!! To me, I’d literally treasure the time & the experience of just seeing him & having him visit us. I know I’d love to give him the biggest, weepiest, happiest hug just because he helps protect our universe, & that he goes out of his way to check in on us, making sure we’re okay too. I’d love to give him a few gifts from my heart, because I care for him as well. To me, Q is a secret good guy, helping us behind the scenes; helping us to be better people, & to remind us to help others. I like to think of Q as a beloved, treasured member of my family; I care about him. I’d be grateful for any gifts he’d bring…

The music is from Mannheim Steamroller's various Christmas albums, as well as music copied from the movie "Galaxy Quest". It might have been nice if the music had been properly credited.

Explain to your children who Santa Claus really was. Saint Nicholas was Bishop of Palmyra. Today Palmyra is in Turkey, formerly it was the Roman province of Asia Minor. Nicholas was canonized because he tirelessly cared for poor families and orphans. The attire your Santa wears at every mall in the US for the Christmastime harks back to an advertisement for the Coca-Cola soft drink company. In reality, Nicholas wore the everyday robes of a Catholic bishop. Bishops and cardinals only wear their liturgical robes on special occasions. In fact, cardinals usually wear red robes. The colour red symbolizes literal loyalty to the Pope to the point of bloodshed. The catholic religious holiday of Saint Nicholas is on December 6th every year.

I just want to say, I don't see it as the "Galaxy Quest" theme any more. I see it as "Galaxy Quest" borrowed the theme from "Hidden Frontier." Through your stories, your characters, and your actors, you made that theme _yours._

The topic of religion being brought up and that religion became unnecessary upon First Contact marred whatever enjoyment I could have had in watching this episode. This is a blatantly anti-religion episode and I don't particularly like anything that evoke a debate about religion. Frankly a episode about Christmas should not be made if its only purpose is to dissed the concept of it. To add insult to injury the episode has the production team expressing Happy Holidays not Merry Christmas to the viewers.

You're reading too much into it. The characters literally discussed why they were celebrating the holiday.
