The Excelsior investigates the loss of the crew of the Federation starship Perihelion, which is found in an impossibly close orbit of a black hole...

I do not know anything about the fan film's intent, but the Star Wars ship to me was merely a computer-graphic convenience and did not clearly suggest a crossover into the Star Wars universe. It would have been easy to have included some dead Storm Troopers if they had wanted to be explicit about that. I am also willing to accept that a "crew" of recent academy graduates does not prohibit a senior staff of seasoned ranking officers. The ages of the actors (like the low-quality green screen) is admittedly off-putting, but you get what you pay for (this is a fan film). Just thoughts.
@ernestmac134 жыл бұрын
I agree, even though these episodes are remastered; they are only in 480P, and the low res backgrounds may be part of the reason the green screen looks so bad. While I realise few can afford to build actual sets, the the few Original Series sets around the country, or traven to those sets on a regular basis to shoot episodes, even Babylon 5's special effects and green screens looked far better, and they used Amiga 1,000 computers. The originals of these fan based episodes of Hidden Frontier were an even worse 140P. and 1080P became a standard on August 30, 2007 and 4K came out on August 22, 2012. While I know KZbin only started having 4K content a few years ago, the low res of this videos really make them show their age. I mean, you can even get laptops with 4K screens, or that put out 4K via USB-C, including some Chromebooks. If those who made these episodes still have the original footage, maybe they can replace the green screen backgrounds with higher res ones, or otherwise clean up these videos. I do realize only so much can be done, but do think this is food for thought for future episodes by these folks or anyone else planing on making fan made episodes.

There is an old book where kirk n Picard meet around a black hole. Its a really good one
@calanon5342 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure I read that one. It was pretty decent. I think it's one of the Shatnerverse Trek novels. If I'm right about the book, Kirk gets resurrected by the Borg, and the Borg are working with the Romulans for some reason. Then, Kirk meets back up with McCoy, Spock and Scotty, and they, along with the ENT-D senior crew, get themselves a specially-built Defiant-class ship (with "Enterprise" crudely phasered onto the hull), and go kill themselves a Borg Queen. A tad "Suspension of Disbelief" for Trek, but a good action novel.

I gotta point out one little problem with the crew of Perihelion herself. Crew's fresh out of the Academy? wouldn't that make ALL of them Ensigns? It doesn't say anything about the Senior Staff not being, but I wouldn't hope that they were.
@kadindarklord7 жыл бұрын
as another point... a lot of the senior staff of the Excelsior's crew seems pretty young and low rank too.
@roberthofmann84036 жыл бұрын
kadindarklord The youngest members that are characters were out of the academy for a few years at this point. It is mentioned in the first episode. There are probably a few younger enlisted crewmen and the senior staff are all veteran officers.
@calanon5342 жыл бұрын
Necro-Posting: This takes place right after the Dominion War, and in that war, as with the Borg Incursion before it, a LOT of good, veteraned officers and NCO's were lost. As a result, and I think DS9 made note of this, training was accelerated, standards were lowered, and a lot of fresh, young faces were brought in. Those that were Ensigns at the start of the Dominion War likely finished as full Lieutenants, or LCDR's, despite their youth and inexperience, promoted locally within their own ship through the loss of senior staff members and them being "the best of what's left." This propagated throughout the fleet. In one DS9 episode, an entire academy class was in command of a _Defiant-class_ star ship with just a few actual officers (that were conveniently dead - the episode was "Valiant" and the CGI crew kinda messed up the scale of the _Valiant_ in that episode). _Excelsior's_ first XO (and what happened to him?) was likely one of these "lucky victims of circumstance." Promoted through the Command ranks likely from as low as LTJG given his age, finishing the war as a Commander, and getting a Captain's recommendation to XO the _Excelsior_ as a result. Little experience, but imaginative, adaptable, and smart. Kinda wish we'd seen him more, I would have liked to see him evolve as a character, but I do like Shelby and what ended up happening in the series.

Sounds just like the galaxy quest music. Waiting for Tim Allen to jump on screen. The executor is the alien ship, Darth Vader isn't going to be happy. He's going to crush the rebel star trek alliance. Shouldn't the actors smoke pot after production instead of 5 minutes before? Gravitational lensing would make it hard to transport, shuttle craft would have been a better option. Also that's not how your supposed to wear breath right strips (Bajorians). I think dad made the whole family play a part

@calanon534 Жыл бұрын
Lord Vader was displeased with their performance, so he tossed them all out the air lock, and escaped by jumping into the Black Hole and giving it the middle finger, coming out on the other side just fine, due to his supreme awesomeness of being voiced by James Earl Jones. I.. honestly have no idea. The ship might've been there for months, and they simply flew apart at the sub-atomic level. The 1950's "War of the Worlds" movie had the aliens use a weapon that specifically did that, so, maybe the atomic instability here, did that to the crew, and they were simply affected faster, as they were living creatures?

Hmmm, so the premise of the episode surrounds around the idea that the Star Trek and Star Wars universes both exist, but are incompatible with one another due to their separate dimensionalities. Based on the assumption that the large ship from the Star Wars universe is intentionally included as an essential part of this first storyline's premise, perhaps the creators reveal themselves to be a fan of both universes, or at least accept the Star Wars universe within the sci-fi genre. I never understood why people were on one side of the fence and not the other when it came to either of these uniquely wonderful and imaginary sci-fi experiences. I'm personally a fan of both and don't discredit one by using examples of the other. These stories, as do many others, expose the human condition translated through works of sci-fi. The genre presents overwhelming situations to the protagonist of their respective universes and forces them to overcome each situation using the aspects of humanity imbued upon them. Essentially, every protagonist in each story serves as a reflection of the many aspects of the human experience, from contemporary and historical times. To deny a premise which contributes to the sci-fi genre - simply because it is an "opposing" subculture - is to deny the purpose of sci-fi as a whole. WATCH THEM ALL and let your personal reception of these stories be your guide.

"Created by Gene Roddenburry" and also credit "Lucas Arts" and "Disney" just out of respect to the guy that envisioned this and there earning money from the utube advert revenue, But like todays class of people "take what you can and give no respect".... appaling people... thumbs down again untill they have some repect for the guy they are earning money from... Gene would be turning in his grave whilst every other trekkie series has the respect to credit him Thumbs down, no repect.

Found the use of the music score from Galaxy Quest both confusing and distracting. While a good effort, the hazing for the green screen overlaps was just a bit grating, as was the stilted delivery in the script.
