Star Wars: The Wrath of Khan? Wow...now that's a blockbuster waiting to happen! 🤣😂🤣

I still have these figures carded. They scaled up with the Kenner 3.75" and G. I. Joe figures of this time period. They had the advantage of articulation similar to G.i. Joe, but we're poorly engineered. Cheap materials lead to easy breakage. Sometimes the entire figure would simply fall apart. Irtl also produced die cast toys of the ships Enterprise, Excelsior and the Klingon Bird of Prey. While a bit better quality, still rather cheap looking, lacking detai. As a Star Trek fan I always felt cheated that we never got a truly great line of Star Trek action figures during the 80's.

I never saw any of these when I was a kid. I didn't even know these figures existed until around 1999 or 2000. They look good.

The success of "The Empire Strikes Back" (originally titled "The Wrath of Khan" (Vader's middle name) ) prompted Paramount to go ahead with "The Search for Spock"? That's trivia I never knew before.

Thanks for doing a segment on these figures. I had them when they came out. The accessories weren’t great scale but I dug the figs.

I actually have the Spock -still on the card. It always mystified me when I bought it and decided to leave it unopened and on display with other bits of nerdness in my home.

I was that weird kid that freakin loved this movie. I was all of about 5 when it was released. I still recall seeing it in the theater and was completely blown away with it. I remember sitting in the shopping cart at our local grocery store and seeing these on the crappy grocery store toy rack and begging my dad for them. For some reason he didn’t buy them which was weird because he and my mom bought absolutely everything Star Trek at that time. Anyway, it is 35 years later and I still have not had the opportunity to add these to my collection (sigh) one day...

I was not aware of the line when it first came out. Didn't know about it until I saw the four figures in a comic book shop in 1994. I eventually bought Kirk, Spock and Scotty. I eventually made my own McCoy using the head sculpt from the 1979 Star Trek: The Motion Picture Mego line.

I don’t remember the toy line, but I remember my dad dragging me to all those Trek movies. I could never really get into them as a kid!!

I have a memory of a Star Trek toy line that was concurrently running with Star Wars but I finally decided I must have just dreamt it because my memory doesn't match any of the toy lines I see people talking about. I clearly remember the card for a Mirror Mirror Spock on the peg in my memory though. Long before playmates made any.

I had the set all MOC as well as the full set of REALLY nice trading cards and the promotional booklet that I bought at the theater. All of that stuff was lost due to my parents throwing away my "old junk" when I moved out!

I remember the figures from the first movie, and even had a few, but I don't remember these at all. And yeah, seems like they would have made a Dr. McCoy instead of Scotty since he was a main part of the plot.
@toddnolastname44854 жыл бұрын
Plus, Scotty has always been a bit of a secondary character, equal to Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura. But the three stars are Kirk, Spock, and Bones.
@bradbrown87594 жыл бұрын
I don't recall any figures exept the clothed Mego ones. And TNG figures. I had a couple TOS Mego ones.. McCoy, Kirk and a garage sale Scotty which was missing his accesorys. I was always bothered by the accessories being molded in that light blue. Metallic or black would of been way better. The 3 motion pictures have grown on me over time. The Chris Pine & Simon Pegg ones don't do much for me but I did get them on DVD. They feel like un funny Orville pilots.

Have the figures. Bought em from a place that mainly sold star trek stuff years ago. We're a lot cheaper than 20 each back then. Also got the die cast Enterprise and Klingon ship.

I agree the line looked more like they didn't really know how to put an action figure line together.
@ronniemckinney68084 жыл бұрын
I never saw these in stores when I was a kid. I do remember the 3 3/4 inch Mego figures from the first movie. I found a couple of problems with Star Trek toys involving the movies. First, the Mego and Ertl lines didn't make enough characters. We never got Uhura, Sulu, or Checkov in either line. Second, The Wrath of Khan never got a toy line at all because the first movie flopped and Mego passed on it. I think that no toys for The Wrath of Khan was a million dollar mistake for Mego and any other toy company back then that could've gotten the license. Playmates eventually got the license in the 90's and done decently with it, but they weren't the right scale in my opinion. It would be cool if Funko (Reaction) gave the original Star Trek movies the 3 3/4 inch figure treatment. They've done them for the TV show and they look great!

I loved Star Trek 3. I didn't know the figures existed until one day I was at a flee market and saw Spock,Kirk,and Kruge for about $5 each. But I had just bought Wolverine #1 and had no money left. I went back two weeks later but they were gone. I've been wanting them ever since!😭🤣🤣🤣
@ShamrockParticle3 жыл бұрын
I didn't know they even existed! Nice find and background info! (What else is new, you rock!) I love How it's just "Klingon Commander" and nothing more properly distinct like "evil obligatory baddie". 😶 Not even Kruge's girlfriend at the start gets a release.. Much less his number one, Maltz, played by the same guy who was in that one episode of Three's Company... or that other character, Dan Fielding... 😁 among others, John Larroquette was an amazing comedic and yet he and Christopher Lloyd both manage to sell serious characters on this one. At least Scotty got some love... though I think they just stuck his head on a leftover Spock body...

I only heard about this line from Kevin Lentz's 3.75 archive years ago. Would it have killed them to make Uhura?! If they had I could have done head swaps to make McCoy, Sulu, Chekov and paint to make Chapel and Rand. I've thought about getting a few of the Klingon figures,

Damm. That’s cool. I remember a kid in school telling me they made them. But no one knew or ever seen them for purchase. Crazy. That was a great film though. Lead into Star Trek 4 very well. Underrated film though. Star Trek 2 was one of my favorites. Those movies had class, great acting etc. it’s funny I don’t care at all for the special effects today they actually look fake. More so then the 80’s films. 80’s film SF actually overall looks more real.

I find it funny: The Odd Numbered bad Star Trek Movies all got toys, the Even Numbered Good Star Trek Movies got no toys
@imfsresidentotaku9699 Жыл бұрын
Saying that the odd-numbered Star Trek movies are automatically bad is a myth that really needs to die. Not to mention, this doesn't even prove what you find "funny." At the very least, it shows that companies merely chose to make toys out of the Star Trek movies that weren't exactly toy-friendly.
@valdore59394 жыл бұрын
Yeah.... Even when these were new. I never wanted them. Now, decades later. Still don't want em. And I used to collect everything Trek. Always seemed like these were leftovers from the old Mego 3.75 TMP line. Superfluous trivia: The diecast U.S.S Excelsior from the Ertl line has her registry as NCC-1799, instead of NX-2000.

On the show they would always try to hide James Doohan's missing finger, using other actors' hands for the close ups. Similarly, Radar on MASH usually only had one of his hands visible, as the actor's other hand was deformed.
