H.G. Wells came closer to getting this idea right in 1901, in his story "The New Accelerator." The drug didn't make people go faster than the speed of light (which is ludicrous), but it did make them go fast enough that atmospheric friction scorched their clothes (which is ludicrous too, but at least he was thinking).

I think that's a little harsh to say the show writers weren't even thinking. They have many considerations - production, audience etc etc. Also it's not a scientific documentary it's fun fictional entertainment.

There's obviously nothing worth warning about in the clips. By the way...his pen name is spelled Seuss. His real name was Theodor Geisel. There were many flaws in this script. The Aliens clearly moved far faster than the speed of light so they shouldn't have been able to see. They should also have been able to complete their plans before the Enterprise Crew even knew anything was happening.

So they are moving faster than the eye can see? How fast would that be in MPH? Since there is no speed below that of light that would prevent a human sized object reflecting light there would no way for them to be invisible. Also if they were moving as fast as is claimed the friction created by their movement through the atmosphere within the ship would burn them up as surely as a space craft returning to earth without a heat shield. Not to mention the air turbulence caused by them zooming around. They may make a sound like a fly but they are considerable bigger.

You are correct on all accounts. The phaser beam would have also struck the woman, albeit in the face, due to its far greater speed. Each time they stood still, the aliens would have became visible to the crew. As in many episodes of Star Trek TOS and Star Trek TNG, the physics was simply awful. [1] The same inertial dampening field that supposedly kept the crew from being splattered against the wall during warp acceleration could not keep the crew from being thrown around during an enemy phasor attack. [2] Firing a phaser at warp speed? The faster-than-light ship would run into its own phaser beam. However, this is science fiction. I found it better to simply enjoy the comedic special effects.

There's this late 1960's - early 1970's music genre called "latin boogaloo" It tended to be a kind of goof ball happy and funky genre. Some songs were done in Spanish and lots were done in English. Anyway, in one song, there's all these latino guys singing and then there's a part where they switch to a "call and response" thing. The main singer yells out "down with liquor" and the chorus of other guys yells back "Yeah, down with liquor!!!" and then the main guy yells "down with smoking" and the chorus of other guys yells back "Yeah, down with smoking!!!" and then the main guy yells "down with women" and the chorus of other guys yells back "uhh, ...down with smoking!!!" So, we'll can give up the other two - but the 3rd - never happening bro.
