I am sad the show is ending. I have some passing knowledge of the Star Trek franchise as a whole, so a lot of the references fly over my head. But the fact that I can repeatedly watch it and enjoy the characters antics while they grow and learn really speaks to the writing of the show. A great show obviously made by fans for fans. And this is coming from a person who enjoys the show and barely knew anything about Star Trek going in!

I feel like it's worth pointing out that Star Trek is really well suited to being animated. You can do stuff with animation that would be prohibitively difficult and/or expensive to do live action. Like having a Caitian doctor, or dolphin crew members.

It’s the heart of the show. It’s a pretty funny show but what really and I mean really won me over is how sincere the show is and how it embraces the weird and fun of the Star Trek universe and it is a loving homage which is awesome.

Despite it's goofiness, Lower Decks is the only current Star Trek show that actually feels like Star Trek. It's obviously made by people who actually know and like Star Trek.

Despite being animated and the stories are of a comedic nature, It's tells true to God Star Trek stories, not just in terms of the adventures, what also in terms of the relationships and interactions between the main characters. Star Trek is also about surrogate families in the form of starfleet crews, and this show does that greatly. It's also cool that the show brings up lots of more obscure lore in its storytelling, ones that many didn't know existed or had forgot about and does it in a way that's not just a gimmick but also adds the narrative of a Star Trek universe, great example being what they did to the pakleds, They made them into a real threat all the while not diminishing the comedic aspects of them. It's basically the office on the final frontier. You can also really tell that the people behind this show really respect Star Trek on a personal level.

Star Trek (TOS, TNG, etc) is a workplace drama (Grey's Anatomy, Law & Order, CSI, The Practice) but in space. Lower Decks is a workplace comedy (the Office, Parks & Rec, Cheers) but in space.

1:44 highlights the problem. Self-satire is always a risk. Trek has done decently at avoiding excess in this realm. Letting the RAM guys run a whole show was inviting excess.

I'm not a fan. It seems like if you removed all the references and in jokes you could watch the whole series in 16 minutes. Don't get me wrong, i love Star Trek (until STD) as much as the next guy but they seem to rely too heavily, nay almost completely, on references and name dropping. I prefer the Orville and thats not even actual Star Trek.

I hate the Lower Decks. I lasted about 15 minutes through the first episode, and I hated just about everything about the Strange New Worlds / Lower Decks crossover, despite loving Strange New Worlds. Lower Decks has a great premise. The problem is that every character behaves like a hyperactive teenager. Not one of those idiots would have graduated from Starfleet Academy. The contrast between them and *actual* Star Trek characters was pretty stark in Those Old Scientists.
