I had this as a child. I’m 47 yrs old! I LOVED this toy! The transporter was absolute MAGIC to me!

Me too, here's something pretty crazy, in 1975 the playset was $13.47 and $2.83 for each action figure. That price reflects that it was just cardboard and plastic, the magic was provided by our imaginations.

Great review! I was a child in that original Mego demographic and received this playset for Christmas 1975. Still have it, alas the box is considerably beat up now. Still have all my figures too. Will always cherish this playset. Was so original and fun as a kid. This and the Evel Knievel stunt cycle were the big items that year.

Rick Baker Rick Baker I wasn't around back then so I had regular plastic action figures growing up but I can see why the Mego style caught on the way it did! I own 33 retro style action figures and I've fallen in love with the retro style action figure. Thanks for your kind words mate!

That is a terrific collection. I had the bridge playset like yours along with all of the figures in this video along with the Gorn and the strange bald figure that was half white/black that was supposed to represent the two characters in the TOS episode May This Be Your Last Battlefield. My dad got them all for me at Watson's in Oak Ridge, Tennessee back in the day. The had tons of ST Mego figures. I mean piles. The Mego toys were excellent except for the knees. You could drop one on the ground and it would start to tear at the knee joint.

James Viles thanks for the kind words! I've got even more Star Trek retro style action figures since I uploaded this and haven't reviewed them as of yet. I absolutely love Mego's and couldn't agree more with you they are awesome!

Damn!!! I had that when I was 8. I remember I wanted it so bad because I thought the transporter really worked. Yeah I was a pretty dumb kid. I remember how disappointed I was when I realized there was a back door.

zigzagbigbag Oh that’s to bad, I think there’s something really satisfying to spinning the dial and making an action figure disappear.

Those viewscreeen printed cards were odd but so fun. I remember drawing scenes on index cards for my own scenes, but none of those survived past a couple of moves.

Excellent review and thank you soo much for pronouncing Mego correctly (Me-Go, NOT meg-Go) so many UK folks like to deliberately mis pronounce typical words (not talking about the traditional ones like schedule). Keep up the good work!

The yellow console was found in sets coming from Canada. The Canadian playset was also slightly reduced in size.

Oh yea I remember reading somewhere that there was a smaller version of the playset.

We had this as a kid, honestly I don't think it was really intended for kids to play with, more like for the dorky parents to collect. The dolls fell apart because they were held together with elastic. I don't remember having a Uhura. And the transporter was fun, half the time the doll would fling out at you at high speed or a limb would fall out and get cut off.
@benw99495 жыл бұрын
You'd really enjoy the Animated series, which you can get on DVD, and possibly on streaming services. -- I had the bridge play set, with figures Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, and a Klingon and a Gorn. I wish I still had them. The figures were pretty cool. The play set was OK, not perfect, but still fun for a kid.
@THEBATLAD895 жыл бұрын
I’ve been meaning to watch it on Netflix, just haven’t got around to it. I can defiantly see why they’d appeal to kids though, and in all fairness I still think they hold up fairly well.

Grown people who still have an appreciation for toys, vintage or not, are individuals with great imagination and creativity. A goodly number of these are artists of different disciplines: Writers, sculptors, musicians and painters on palette, Etc.
@THEBATLAD895 жыл бұрын
Tony Tafoya couldn’t agree more, there’s something to be said about admiring something in your collection. Regardless of the price it’s the emotion you feel, that’s where the real value is.

Many Star Trek toys of the 1970's had "off model" art and execution. Part of their charm. The Enterprise art on the play are does not resemble the look of an animated series.

Wasn't this thing reissued a few years back? I remember seeing a whole bunch of these for sale on ebay for like 60-70 bucks or something.
@THEBATLAD896 жыл бұрын
Tetsuron they were yes, I’m not sure what the differences were though. I think it may have been the colour of the front console and the captains chair.
@Takeshi3576 жыл бұрын
The Mego museum website shows there were two variants, one with all blue accessories and another with mixed colours. No idea which variant the DST release uses, but it does have the DST logo on the outer shell.
@THEBATLAD896 жыл бұрын
Tetsuron aside from that there was also a Canadian version released by Mego that was apparently a little bit smaller than the regular US version.

Don't think the box art is based on the animated series - the colour scheme in that was mostly the original series. You can find episodes on KZbin.

hopefully you won't! you know to be very careful with it, it's as delicate as if feels, lol. those seems will tear on ya. obviously keep it out of the sunlight and humidity and i'm sure you'll be fine. :)
@ryanbarker52176 жыл бұрын
@David Roberts very cool. :) i live in ohio's miami valley, basically the twilight zone of weather, and it can get very, very humid here. at the time i would have had this i would have been living in an older home (like, the original part was built in the 1840's, as i recall), so no central air, thus no doubt the condensation issue. oh, it may have just been an issue i had and no one else, lol. i never used the transporter part, but i don't remember why i didn't. wish i had those figures still, i can remember them on the shelves at gold circle.
