For 1977 Christmas I got the Star Trek Bridge & all the figures. Damn! that was one Magic Christmas. Still feels like MAGIC! I could never part part with these toys, still got all originals & boxes! 😁

Perhaps one of the greatest toys of the 70s. Mego should have made a sick bay accessory piece for this and we could have just placed it next to the engineering room.

It was great watching this video, because as a kid, i actually used to own this! It was a lot of fun, and i had all the figures to match [still do!] and it was a great playset to have hours of fun with and actually re-create Trek episodes. I had the one with the blue captain's chair. I don't know what ever became of this playset, i think i played with it so much it began to fall apart, and i eventually had to throw it away. Thank you for the memories!

The barber captains chair looks like the one that comes with the Walton’s store minus the foot rest… Great to see the evolution of this set through those store sales ads… I want to say the Xmas of 1975 was when everyone I knew had something Star Trek including this bridge set with the original 5 figures also the Trading cards the remco utility belt. What a great time it was to be a kid.

Another great video. This just popped up on my feed, so my compliments and comments come two years too late. LOL! As a kid, I so wanted the bridge playset. I thought the transporter part was the coolest thing ever. Good Lord, I remember those communicator walkie talkies too. Wanted those so bad. IIRC, in the 90's a company had made Star Trek walkie talkies that were more show-accurate than the large blue ones that were made in the '70s. I also wanted that bridge set and figures from Star Trek The Motion Picture. Heh...imagine if Mego had made the Cygnus bridge playset, and the Palomino spacecraft? You could have the Enterprise facing off against the Cygnus, with the Palomino shuttling survivors from whomever you chose to win the battle....or send shock troops to the other ship. LOL! Thanks for sharing this video. Well produced, very informative.

I just got one of these playsets last week and the charm factor is through the roof. Transporter still works and everything! I think if Mego does make a new one they should make one like the updated playset they were going to make in 1977.

I was just talking with my Mom recently about whether or not she remembered much of the toys she got me when I was a kid. Unlike me she doesn't have a very good memory about this kind of stuff, and I tend to be far more nostalgic and hold onto memories more than she does. But she clearly remembered getting me this playset and how much I played with it all the time. Makes me love this set even more. Thanks as always for your great work, Brian! :)

I DEFINITELY want a screen accurate Enterprise Bridge playset! That one you show towards the end of the video is great, but I like the idea of a round one, too. Megos are so popular right now, and they're really hitting a home run with the Star Trek line. A new Bridge is a must. But a Sick Bay, Engineering, a Transporter room and a Shuttlecraft would be heave. They should consider doing what Hasbro has done with Haslab and have us Mego fans fund production of sets. Bypass retailers altogether.
@richardwatts46603 жыл бұрын
I really like this playset, because a) I love 70's style drawn computers / controls / screens on toys of that era, and b) this is just so so cool! Unfortunately I never had any Mego Star Trek myself, but after seeing this I can't help but wonder what similar designs might have been done for the later Star Trek spin-off shows had Mego still been around then... Just imagine if Mego had done the Next Generation 1701-D bridge, Deep Space Nine's promenade or even Voyager's bridge in this style. If only!

I remember seeing this at Kmart in the mid 1970’s. They also displayed it near the entryway windows so us kids could drool over it as our parents dragged us away into the parking lot. Hoagie sandwiches, popcorn & cherry icees oh my. Now the original Kmart store building is the new probation department for the county where I live, but I can still show u the area near the windows where the Enterprise Bridge was displayed with all its crew members.

If this playset were to be reproduced again, I see no reason not to make both a faithful reproduction of the classic Mego version, as well as one that has graphics that are more screen accurate. This is just vinyl wrapped cardboard, after all. The extra expense required to make both versions would be negligible, and would cater to a wider variety of collectors.

I got the Bridge set and all the crewmembers (and Klingon) for Christmas one year. It still ranks as one of my Favorite Christmas gifts ever! I did find an inexpensive set to have as a memory a few years ago (my original didn't survive my childhood). Honestly, if Mego were to do a playset (exceedingly unlikely) of the bridge, I'd prefer something more screen accurate, with not only TOS viewscreen replicas, but maybe some SNW ones as well, and a few original ideas.

I still have my old mid-70s set with five or six figures (including a Klingon) and it's still pretty mint. It has the blue captain's chair & console, the working transporter, and the 3 carboard scenery cards for the viewscreen. I wouldn't sell it, but I often wonder what its worth.
@manlystranger49732 жыл бұрын
A repro bridge set should be made per the original with the addition of clear vinyl pockets on both front and back of all panels. Updated graphic cards could be inserted in these pockets to produce the TV bridge, movie bridges, the D bridge, a Klingon bridge, a Romulan bridge, etc. The outside pockets could be used with additional graphic cards to simulate various away mission environments. The plastic computer desk in the original version should be removable from the wall and when added with the correct chairs and other plastic doo-dads would recreate the TV Sulu and Chekov control panel. Various accessory packs could complete the look of each bridge and planet and include items such as chairs, wall fixtures, and replicator food. Perhaps an extra hidden swing away vinyl panel could add a turbolift door. An extra special accessory pack could include TV cameras, TV stage lights and mic booms, a folding director's chair, and a Gene Roddenberry figure so the bridge could be used as the TV shooting stage of a space adventure series. A shuttle craft which fits inside the folded set would also be a nice touch.

Excellent episode!!! That is a beautiful toy. I know there are plenty of folks that would prefer a more show-accurate look to the Enterprise bridge, but I really don't mind the liberties taken. The brighter colors and simplified control panels are a little more cheerful and fun to look at than the grey/black/red of the actual set. I'd love to see this get another release.

There has been murmurs of mego playsets maybe coming out put but perhaps different than the originals so they are more display backdrops than playsets but who knows.
