Hey buddy, I gave up on Eagle Moss because of the stands which inhibit any decent shot of them. The Chip Beck single post black mounts are infinitely better for shelf presentation and any photography - plus - his come with bridge lights on the NCC 1701 and Lights & Sound on the Borg Cube. I agree with you 100 % on the price point, product quality and customer expectation - if you are paying 65 E or 100 USD - a person expects something special not a scaled up version of the $ 10 E version. I spent 2 years trying to figure a way to shoot good pix of my little EM NCC 1701A but the center of gravity is so far forward it is impossible to stand on the fuselage. I like the FamTek NCC 1701 E with Warp Drive sleep mode for 30 m...

So here is what seems to be going on with this model. The inaccurate bridge section, saucer sidewalls and stubby nacelles are very much consistent with the Enterprise model built for Star Trek Phase II series that was then scrapped for a more detailed model for the first motion picture. It seems Eagle Moss tried to pass off the the phase II mode for the Enterprise A or they just did not spend enough time researching the difference.

It is ironic how the bridge nodule did originally exist before it was refined in The Motion Picture, and that the magazine reflects this cinematic interest, because to be frank, the A was never in this era! The one thing i will give Eaglemoss credit for, even though there are far too many dealbreaker flaws, is the aztecing and the duck egg coloring, which looks great. Nearly everyone who makes this ship makes the aztecing and duck egg color VERY prominent and contrasty, making it look garish and nothing like it does in the film. They probably used the filming model as a reference, but the colors were never meant to look that way to an audience.

That bridge module is unforgivable. I can overlook inaccurate paint and incorrect decals; those are in practice not too hard to correct yourself. You shouldn't have to, mind, especially when you're paying around $60 to $70, but it's possible to correct. An inaccurate sculpt, though, is just beyond the pale. If a company can't even get the shape of things right, what are we even paying for?

This is my favorite ship in Star Trek. I am always critical when someone makes this and I think Eaglemoss missed it on both versions. The bridge uses on the XL version looks familiar. After looking at some old pictures i think this one was the original refit bridge. The original bridge was damaged by water before production began and was resigned so i wonder if they just looked at wrong reference pictures.
@martok21126 жыл бұрын
Hi, Irish Trekkie, A good and thorough review. I completely agree. Of all the ships in Star Trek (across all Trek universes) my absolute favorite is the refit U.S.S. Enterprise (but, no bloody A, B, C, D, or E). I thank you for this thorough review. This is a very hit and miss model. Size wise....WOW! Who among those who love Trek would not want a handful of refit Enterprise in their miniatures collection? But, I completely agree with your assessment. The paint job is very nice in some places, and just way off base in others. And the windows are barely visible unless you hold it up in the right light. I'll give 'em an A for effort on the hull plating paint on the dorsal section of the primary hull. Doesn't really look like they gave the ventral section quite as much love in that regard. And yeah, I think I would've been a bit put out at the magazine for largely covering Star Trek The Motion Picture, when the Enterprise A was only in 4, 5, and 6. I suppose that since they are apparently not doing the 1701 refit (TMP-TSFS) they figured they'd cover The Motion Picture material for the Enterprise A to give a sense of lineage. I suppose that at Eaglemoss, they have to decide "Well, how detailed can we make this miniature, and get it out quick enough so that it'll satisfy the average Trek fan/follower?" I guess they figure if they get about 60 percent of it right, most folks'll be happy. I'm not saying that if I bought the miniature I would throw it across the room for the 40 percent that they got wrong, or just skimped on..... but your review definitely decided me against it....and for that, again, I thank you. (I'll stick to CG building my own ships. 😊 ) Take care, and LLAP.

the quality on these reminds me of what happened at Hallmark when they outsourced their ornament production- you can't even compare the quality nowadays to what they were doing when the sculptors were in-house...here we go again with the quality issues on these specials from Eaglemoss- there is very little correct on this version of the A...just seems like they're taking short-cuts in the sculpt and paint design and then charging a lot of money for them...at this price point, they need to be way higher in quality and accuracy...(the Aztecing on the hull alone is not even close...)...i just looked at my USS Yeager (Sabre Class)- they're clearly capable of doing high detail on the specials (there is a ton of detail on the Yeager, and it's pretty a small ship...)...

They just seem incapable of making an accurate model of this ship. It's annoying too as it's my all time favourite sci-fi ship design. More so because I have a number of their other models too that are actually very good (window missalignments aside lol) so I know they're capable. The D and E are pretty damn good, the original Connie looks fantastic, the NX-01 Refit is outstanding so I don't know how they keep messing the A/Refit up so badly. Even the B looks like it's going to be pretty damn good (again, window alignement notwithstanding). They're just inconsistent which is the biggest dissapointment.

Just found your video on this. The accuracy of that die-cast replica of the A is a joke for $75 U.S.D plus shipping. This is a whole bunch more wrong about that STTMP Enterprise than you pointed out. The phasers are in the wrong location on the top AND ventral sides of the saucer. The phasers should align with one of circular deflector grid lines. The top U.S.S. Enterprise and NCC-1701 decals are in the wrong location. The U.S.S. Enterprise decal is too high up on the saucer. The NCC-1701 on the ventral side of the saucer is also the completely wrong size ( too small ) and, again, in tne wrong location. I can't tell from your video, but the Aztec-pattern on the both the top and ventral portions of the saucer section looks completely and utterly wrong! The whole upper bridge module and the lower Officer's lounge section look to me to be taken from an earlier version of that area that was designed earlier on as they were making changes to that model for the Motion Picture. I have images where the STTMP model has a similar looking area. I wonder how Eaglemoss knew about that and why they changed the tooling of the larger version of the TMP Enterprise die-cast to look like an earlier designed version. This earlier bridge and VIP/Officers’ section can be seen in early publicity images used of the Enterprise model to advertise for “Star Trek The Motion Picture” Eaglemoss came out in Oct./Nov. 2018 with the large U.S.S. Reliant NCC-1864 and that die-cast is, by far, a very accurate version of that starship. Eaglemoss fixed most, if not all, of the issues with the large Reliant versions that plagued and ruined the large die-cast Enterprise-A.

Impulse deck and bridge module / dome are wrong. Coloring is wrong pretty much everywhere. No Aztec pattern, the area under the bridge module seems to have an airlock unless I'm seeing things. This is wrong. I could go on and on, but for my money, there is no way any of these flaws are acceptable.

For $75 those errors are unacceptably insulting. Wtf is it with Eaglemoss and their totally hit-and-miss quality?? The most glaring is the window painting always being friggin off. Sure you expect that maybe in first/early runs but once they see what's happening the fact they don't correct it and keep going with the prints being screwed just screams not giving a shit. And just look at this, you don't screw up the Enterprise (of any iteration) but especially not the 1701-refit/1701-A. Again those errors are f'n unacceptable and Eaglemoss should be embarrassed by them.
