does the lvl of the officer (green/blue/purple) make a difference in the quality of the end result?

They do have a slight effect with purple being the best of course.

I know this is old but for anyone reading this today, green gives you +5 to your skill level, blue gives you +15, & purple gives you +30. It's not a big deal when your crafting skills are already high but if you're starting a new toon and you're willing to play the odds you can get purple mk ii gear most of the time at level 7, that's level 4 with a purple doff.

If the omega are not an option then go for the superior tech upgrades. They will give you the most bang for your buck.

This is the "BEST" tutorial. Pretty hard to get into though, confusing! Where do you recruit the appropriate duty officers? All the ones I needed were "very" expensive! at level 40 I only have 3 research scientist's.

I don't think you can open your crafting/duty officers button until you reach level 11. I just tried opening the duty officers button and it's grayed out and won't open. Is crafting still in the R&D tab of that button, on the latest version of Star Trek Online?

The Duty Officer system opens up at lvl 11. The crafting system opens at lvl 15

No the components needed to craft an item have a set quality, they cannot be changed.

I have really enjoyed a lot of your videos. they have helped me immensely. I tried your Technique using the Superior Tech upgrade and the major accelerator but I only got 10% chance instead of 20% chance upgrading Rarity while upgrading very rare beam Mark II weapons. did they Nerf percentage in an update?

superior upgrade +research boost =10% Experimental superior upgrade + research boost = 20% Omega + Research Boost = 40%

No, pen is applied at the time of crafting only. There are a few ways to get purple doffs. Which one is best really depends on what resources you have available and how patient you are. you could go to the various nebulas and do the assignment chains. The final mission in the chain is repeatable for a chance at a purple doff. There is of course the exchange if you have enough EC. You can also buy purple doffs from your fleet starbase/k-13 holding for fleet credits. The ones from the starbase will be random, but K-13 you can see what you are getting.

Been Crafting for over a week now, 5 alts, I havent been so lucky in making much of anything worth keeping, all R&D's are at 20 even greens will give a purple beam.

True, but crafting at the higher mark means you won't get as many opportunities to make the weapon epic before the first tech upgrade runs out.

I've been making MKII beams only, I got a few [Crtd]x3 and [Crtd]x2 [Pen] beams last night. Out of a 100+ crafted beams now maybe 7 are keepers for me. Your video did help and point out I should only try to make the MKII's. Thank you!

Are the sto players really that stupid to buy very rare mk VIII items for 15-20 milions a piece? Lol how easy and cheap it is to craft these items for an experienced crafter, and they demand completely unresonable prices. You set incredibly high price and say it will sell. So basically you try to pull the money away from people who don't know the trick. Also selling an item Mk II for 50k sounds silly, I would never buy so high if I knew how fast it comes for a crafter to make it. I sell my own for 10k max and it's already a lot considering the modules for ti comes from materials which cost 10-50 per piece. So 10k for 5 minutes of your time and maybe 200 cost in mats is already a high price, and 50k is simply a scam. And some people try even to sell these items for 200k or more, the greed in this game is beyond comprehension.

The thing you are not taking in to account are the weapon modifiers. It may only cost 200 in mats for a beam (to use your number), but when I have to craft about 200 beams to get a single one with desirable modifiers that changes things. You are also not accounting for the cost of upgrading and the fact that an undesirable modifier can ruin a weapon. People often have to attempt to upgrade 10-20 weapons for just one to "come out right" for higher mark weapons. The introduction of re-engineering has improved things greatly, but re-engineering costs both dilithium and salvage so that has to be taken into account.
