Thank you for the great videos. I gave a question about using the superior upgrades. When you were showing the upgrade it showed 12,800 tech points but the item being upgraded only needed 300 to move to the next level. Why did you used so many extra points (12,500) is you only needed 300 to advance it? I’m still very new at the game. I play the missions, but all of the economic, reputation, crafting, and upgrades are still foreign to me. Thanks in advance, & teacher to teacher, please keep making these informative videos to help the community.

The extra points carry over and apply towards the next higher level.

Quick question -- where do you get purple starship weapons that are only Mk. II? The exchange?

You can buy them off the exchange. If you have level 15 in crafting you can craft a mark 2 and get purple every time. They cost almost nothing to craft at mark 2 and are incredibly cheap to upgrade (1 upgrade takes them to about mark 8). These 2 reasons are why we craft weapons at mark 2.

I'm a new player (if you couldn't tell), so thanks for all the information. Quick follow up -- is the best way to level crafting to upgrade existing weapons, or are there Duty Officer missions that level crafting for you, as well? Sorry for asking all the questions. I've tried to poke around at the STO Wiki and haven't exactly found a clear answer on how all the mechanics work, or the most efficient ways to utilize them. Thanks again!

The best way to level a crafting school is to use the research project at the bottom of each school. They give 6,000 - 7,000 points per project and you can slot up to 3 projects in one school every 20 hours. BTW, never be sorry for asking questions. Asking questions is how you learn.

Thanks for all your help. I got a jump start on my crafting this weekend thanks to your guides and advice. I have a character at level 55, and I never even knew all the crafting options existed -- I thought it was mainly for upgrading mission rewards and loot drops. Anyway, thanks again!

How exactly do you get superior upgrades? And do they work on anything other than phaser beam array?

Great questions! You get the Superior Tech upgrades either from the in game exchange or by crafting them. Please note you must be level 15 in the school for the type of Superior upgrade you want to craft in order to do this. There are Superior Tech Upgrades for each of the crafting schools. The item you are upgrading should tell you what type you can use on it. In general, beam upgrades for beams, cannons for cannons, engineering for engines, shields for shields, etc.

hi teacher so i watched this again as I wanted to check something you said with r@d about making weapons only mkii but making sure there purple very rare so when it comes to end game we have the weapons we want to use ready to upgrade ect I was woundering as there are more then weapons on a ship shoud one make each item needed ready to upgrade as the time rolls around I have plenty of gas and stuff but I need the credits ect to get the superior things I took a look at what they cost to make and to get some of the items u need r~d materials you can only get if playing on elite is this correct??

You should be able to get the materials to craft any mk ii item from playing even normal TFOs. Crafting all the gear on a ship at mk ii for later upgrade is ok, but I will usually run some missions or re-claim items unlocked for my account because these can be upgraded to mk xii for free. With the mission journal being unlocked this means I could be running with the Bajoran set, for example, right away.

@@TeacherKirbyI made a start to beging with in game I went with beams but I love cannons am I right in thinking turrets and cannos go togeather I have 2 mk ii purple turrets aswell as single cannon as from the videos ive seen once I level and get ships with more weapons slot cannos wise id put a single cannon 1 or 2 duel followed by heavy lol now im hopeing you can help with another ingame issue I have from time to time at times I cant run I press shift lol and instead of running it opens some tab I think itas to do with the arc website ive had this issue a few time don't suppose you no how I can solve this if I had the brains and I new what software to use id have a go at making my own videos even though they would al be to do with issues im having lol not being able to run in a royal pain in the ass as it is takeing twice as long to get from a to b lol

This applies to most gear in the game. One exception is consoles that come off of ships for example.

No. You only need 1 dedicated crafting toon per account.

You can craft the superior and superior experimental upgrades. You can also buy those off of the exchange. There are also upgrades you get from the admiralty system (completing Romulan tour of duty). Then there are others that are rewards from elsewhere like the phoenix upgrades or the ultimate upgrades which are purchased. Then we have the Omega upgrade where you have to gather the materials during the anniversary event and craft using the special projects tab.

Gonna try this out - crafting those superior beam upgrades has been my way of accumulating EC so far, (and it's been very good for that), but I'll start hanging onto them for a while for this. So far, only thing I've had go Epic was the Plasmonic Leech, but I've never really gone for the gold. My Engineer's just got a Fleet Exploration Cruiser (T6), and really hasn't even started with a build for it yet - he's my lowest DPS toon at the moment, sadly - but I think I might be able to pull this off. Might have to watch the video a couple more times along the way though.

Upgrade the level of the crafting school. Superiors become available at level 15.

I have a theory about upgrading and mods. I could be completely wrong, but if I'm right it could save time and effort. I believe all the mods an item will get are pre baked into it when it's created. The reason I believe that is the instant level 14 epic upgrade sometimes in the c store. Putting that in the upgrade window without applying it shows you what it will be mod wise. If that is true you could use it as a template to see if you'd get the mods you'd want. What do you think?

That is not the first time I have heard someone say that they have seen what mod the weapon will get. I heard that claim before the key ring bundle upgrade. I have never been able to get it to show me the possible mod before I upgrade. This does not mean it is not possible or that the mods are not "pre-baked" as you say. I just have not been able to replicate it. I think it will save you a lot of dilithium if you can get this method to work reliably for you.

Reputation Gear have "pre baked" mods. The Counter-Command Armor always gets (TOX) at ultra Rare and (HP/Res) at Epic. Maybe that is where you have seen it. I'm quite sure, that craftable items doesn't have pre-defined mods. I haven't tested it though.

It seems to me, one could purchase epic quality items that one intends to keep off the exchange and then upgrade them. I suppose that would work but would be more expensive.

You could, but you can't get mk II epic weapons. The best you can get at mk II is very rare.

There are a couple places. You can get a couple by running the ground missions on Kobali. They also come in the crafting boxes from the C-Store. If you can't afford the zen, you can also buy these for EC off the exchange. You can buy them directly off the exchange as well. I've also seen them, very rarely, get rewarded from an endeavor box.

How do you "know" dmgx2 and pen?

dmgx3 and pen is the best set of mods for a tactical officer (critdx3 and pen for sci and eng) that wants to do the best DPS. The only way to get dmgx3 and pen is to start with dmgx2 and pen. It is important to remember that pen is a mod that is applied when the weapon is crafted, not upgraded.

ahh, The modifiers are listed at the end of the weapon name. You can buy weapons with those modifiers off the exchange, this is the fastest way but can be costly. You can craft them as well, but it can take a number of tries.

HI TEACHER MY UPGRADES ARE GOING FINE BUT ALOW a I M TRYING TO SOLVE A FEW ISSUE oops just noticed caps was on I no im a bit blind but not everyone else is so I don't need to shout lol I have a question unrelated to upgradeing but I need help now I am at max level with which ship to get lol im a tactical officer so im using escorts the last one I got as I levelled was the patrol escort but after this to get upgraded ships or refit they cost zen and I don't have enough yet lol with my last choice of ship it seems I can only pick a refit back at captain level the tactical escort if I get this what tier of ship is it classed as please I no it wont be a t6 lol but id like to know so I understand a few things a little better lol there is a ship im after but it is a fleet ship and I don't feel like working for my current fleet as everything is level 5 and only crews dofs are required and I don't own many and I need them lol I don't understand things the way there met to be sometimes I need the idiots guide lol I no I have left a ton of comments on peoples videos the reason for this is ingame no one seems to want to help as there all busy and the fleet im in no one is ever on so I think I need a new fleet that is active that don't mind having someone who is a bit green and somewhat slow at picking up thinks in this game anyway enough of another essa back to game as im trying some of these reputathion things ive done a few and my oofficers are using the very rare weapons ive got from them

thanks for the reply winters really apreachate it mate this is my problem I started a jemhadar character as I was aware it started at level 60 I already had a few toons at max level as I just flew them to open everything so I could look at everything and I mean everything I think I got most things down and I understand what I am doing specialy with my fleet like I wanted I am in a fleet with not much open one thing im not sure about is I am not able to buy anything even tho I have fleet credits dilithium and all that do I need to be given permission yjays fleet side sorted now for the main issue as I am on my jemhadar character I have come to a mission I am just unable to do it is the one with the ev suit with my vision issues and the setup of that mission the layout colours and a few other things I just cant get this mission doin im having issue at the part were the enemy pops out and u have to run that bit I can do fine I am good at running it is were I need to jump those few gaps and my ev suit activates I keep falling of the edge while I am trying to make the jump I need help I no it is not a good thing to do but I am asking for someone to help by loging in my game and doing this mission for me so I can continue the story arc I no I need to try and do this for myself I have been but I really need help there maybe people out there thinking why are you playing games if you are struggleing and cant see lol but I have wanted to play sto for many years but not had the chance basicly it is what it is I am a bit blind and I need a friend I will keep trying to do this for myself but after 24hrs it aint looking good

There are a few ships that can become T5-U ships. They get a mastery package, but no ship trait.
